I see your point mate but he's clearly going elsewhere in the summer (or holding out to see who wants him). I honestly don't see Newcastle getting relegated with or without Owen.

Still reckon we should throw a low bid in and see how they react tho

Tomkins has finally lost it.

If we´re going to be stupid, I´d rather bring back Tosh.

i think they could be very strong possibilities to go down if it wasnt for his goals mate - they have got them out of the relegation zone at the moment .

Is Rafa buying and planning around this formation??? If so Owen wont fit into our squad.. but having said that, looking at Keane, neither would he.. Torres up top and Gerrard in the hole, leaves no room for any other striker, unless you called Dirk.

I think Owen and Torres could play well up top together in that formation with Gerrard wide, but most people would rather see Gerrard through the middle, as woulld I. So unless we play 442 (which means buying a proper winger, for all Kuyts attributes etc he isn't good enough to play left wing in a 442 for championship contesting side IMO) then the only "striker" we should be playing is Torres.

In a 442. Gerrard Alonso central, Reira left and our new classy right winger. Torres and..... Keane or Owen.?

So, in a 442 who would you rather have with Torres, looking at your personal feelings in ralation to both players but also looking at what sort of striker Torres needs with him, or what sort of striker will compliment him... and then do Keane or Owne fit the bill?

Having said that Rafa has said he has no intention of signing Owen...

It's OK - Owen can come on for Torres after 70 minutes, keeping Torres fit.

(That said, I give Owen 3 games before he gets a season-ending injury...)

Funny how the usual happy clappy brigade become all pesimistic when it comes to Owen :D

Speculative nonsense. WE know he is motivated by money? ??? That's just YOUR opinion and it's wide of the mark. Did he go to Real Madrid because of money? i don't think so, more likely the fact they are generally considered to be the biggest club in the world. Did he go to Newcastle because of the money? Or was it because he was 4th choice at Madrid and barely getting a sniff in a World Cup year? Sure, Newcastle threw the money at him but that is because they realised (or believed) they were signing a player who would not normally sign for them, the same reason applies to the £17 million fee they were willing to pay for the player, they had to go to extremes to get him.

Ok let me change it then - i think plus i think others think that he is motivated by money as well as his horse business .

Happy ?

And if he was offered a contract extension at newcastle at 100 grand a week or a contract with us or villa or say city at 50 grand a wekk - which do you think he would take ?

As for the article, unfortunately Tomkins stuff is not a patch on his RAWK days but I guess that comes with writing a column for the official site.

He does make some good points about Gerrard's improvement playing off the main striker and while I don't want him to turn (or be turned) into a striker, it's full credit to the player for working on (and clearly grasping) the changes he needs to make to his game.

An amazing player. You fancy he could even be a top class centre-half if he played there for 10 games such is his quality.

Owen the person - not a chance in Putney.

Ok he has changed his game from when he was with us and naturally couldn't maintain his explosive pace type play but he is still one of the best finishers around.

As for the person. You talk like he is the only Liverpool player to ever leave the club. Bigger players than him have left and come back so seriously everyone needs to drop this whole thing because we all know full well IF he did return everyone would be smiling again knowing what his partnering Torres could mean for bolstering our attack.

I dont think it was the fact he left the club Bav i think its the way he let his contract run down and we had to sell him on the cheap in the end and prob lost about 12 mil on him .

I think he'd come back in a flash if we went in for him. i don't know about a 50% wage drop but then I don't think you will find many (if any) who would take such a big pay-cut. Would you do it? I don't think I would. But a pay deal that was a basic salary with a chunk related to appearances to protect the club's investment would make sense to me, and considering his injury record, you would expect the player to see things the same way.

Once again, I don't think it will happen but if it did I would expect it in January rather than the summer. I don't think it would cost anything as high as the £10 million you have mentioned, I think it would more likely be in the region of £5 million myself. Despite what Kinnear has said about keeping the player to help avoid relegation, if we went in for him and they refused they would have a very unhappy player for the rest of the season. Clubs rarely keep players who aren't happy (see how long Babel lasts), at least not these days, the power is all with the players.

Didnt fowler take a considerable wage drop to come back ?

he maybe unhappy for the rest of the season but he would still play and score goals for them to help them stay up - letting their best player go for as little as 5 mil when he would prob help them stay up is madness and cant see it happening . The would try and get as much as possible for the player - if its not enough they wont sell . they would also have to find a replacement for th emoney they got for him . Like someone said if he is available a lot of clubs would go in for him hence pushing the price up even further.
