Yes mate, "cutting off your noses" meant not getting a top quality player for a bargain price, just because of none footballing reasons. Anyone who doesn't want to sign him because they don't think he's good enough etc etc I wouldn't include in the "cutting off noses" list.

there you go again, he's not top quality anymore and i've mentioned his football related injuries already. Newcastle signed him for 17 mill and look where they are! haha. jesus wept.

He's not the player he was it's certainly true to say that, but he remains a decent if not absolutely top quality goalscorer. As I've said earlier, I don't really give a feck if we sign him especially or not to be honest, but we do need to sign at least one striker and I woud be surprised if we've got much cash kicking around.

If there's someone equally as good available for the same money (and none of us know how much Owen would cost) then buy them instead. I can't though think of anyone off the top of my head who would be comparable for say 3-4 million.

I'd rather Liverpool went in for a bid with Henry TBH, like Owen he's had his injuries but I think the Frenchman would suit our game much better.

In any case I cant see us going for either Henry or Owen.

In a straight-up choice between Henry and Owen I'd opt for the Frenchman too but I doubt the prices would be anywhere near comparable.

I've been wishing for Henry ever since the rumors started to spread around, but if he keeps on performing like he did against Valencia, then there's absolutely no way Barca's letting him go.

Yep, Henri would do for me as well. You ain't though I don't think gonna be able to get him in January, and certainly not for the type of fee Owen will likely be available for. As he's only got a few months left on his contract, Newcastle might just as well take anything they can get for him. They've got Martins, Viduka and Shola Ameobi anyhow, and the thought of saving 120K per week on Owens wages for six months plus a couple of million fee would be the best part of 5 million quid. A no brainer for them I should think, particularly if they can hoist themselves up to relative safety in mid-table by then.

That's my point on Owen and why I'd be interested. Get him for 2-4 mill on sensible wages and he's a bargain. I've a feeling though from reading the press that Chelsea mgiht also fancy him. We'd need him to dig his heels in and only contemplate signing for Liverpool. Sound familiar?  :)

And that would be Owen all over, he'd run to the likes of Chelsea simply because they'd offer him more money. Infact him and Chelsea suit eachother.

How is talking about Owen in this light disgraceful ?

The way in which he went about in leaving this club and jumping ship was nothing short of disgraceful.

As for being a little "bitter" well there is some descent ground for that in all honesty.

For footballing terms I'd want Henry over Owen even if he did cost a few Mill more, Henry still has a fair bit of pace and is arguably better than Owen. Like I said before I think he'd suit our style alot better.

He's only implying to those fans that does not remember or too young to remember Owen's great contribution to this club.

Yes he jumped ship on us but let's not forget how excellent of a player he was to this club. Calling him with harsh names is a bit too much.

And I am not voting for him to come back to Anfield.

We are not Mancs, bitternose, chelsea.scu.m etc.

We are liverpool and we show respect especially to our past greats. Owen is one of our greats and please show some respect to him.

I showed him plenty of respect during his playing days with us, the upmost respect infact. Then he went and lost all the respect I had for him when he played down his contract and didnt allow Rafa the chance.

For me, you dont just earn you're respect as a player, you earn it as a person also. I dont like Mercinaries in the game today, and I've heard plenty of opinions from M.Owen fans who also dislike the Mercinary side of players ala A.Cole, L.Neill, Ballack etc etc , well Owen certainly falls into that catergoray. Just because he played for us and was an excellent player doesnt take away the fact he's a greedy little Mr England Mercinary.
