Owen scored a lot of vital goals for this club while he was here, saw the opportunity to better himself (as this club looked as if it was going no where fast)and took it. He wanted to come back but WE WERN'T WILLING/ABLE TO MATCH NEWCASTLES OFFER TO REAL MADRID.
I really can't understand why some would cut off their nose to spite their face over Owen. Argue he is injury prone, not good enough, wouldn't suit our style of play etc, but moaning about why he left and why he didn't come back, when they either don't know the full story or maybe don't want to know seems a bit silly to me.
He is not the first footballer that made a bad choice, and he wont be the last. If we get the opportunity to get him back for basically peanuts we should grab it with both hands.
Admittedly he his not the player he was, but he is still a clinical finisher with great movement and the happy knack of being in the right place at the right time. He would get goals for us and if anything is going to cost us this season........ its lack of goals!
If Rafa chooses not to go for him, I am sure it will be a football based decision...... not a petulant one.
