Cool Hand Luke Posted on Dec. 07 2008,15:09It would depend on what sort of deal he was willing to take. If he is really desperate to come back then he will have to take some sort of pay as you play contract with a minimal basic rate. He is on over £100k a year according to most sources and personally I would only be willing to give him a quarter of that as a basic rate with added bonuses depending on appearances.
His injury record is horrendous so we couldn’t sign him as one of first choice strikers, it’s just not worth the risk.
If we could get him for a very small fee and on a very small basic rate (wages) then I would say yes. But I don’t think he will accept such a drop in wages.

Who creates a poll by insulting anyone who doesnt share their opinion before they have even voted? Do you speak to real people the way you do on here? If so im sure you get smacked around alot.
Bringing back Owen is not black and white, its not just about how he left or the goals he once scored. He is very injury prone and do you want to bring in another striker just to have him lie next to Torres in the treatment room? If he comes in and stays fit, what formation do you play? has Owen not always played at his best with a target man up front beside him? Should Torres sacrifice his goal threat to accommodate him? Could he play with Keane? Could he play with Ngog? What would you think if you were Nemeth or one of the other promising young strikers if we brought in a striker who best days are behind him (sorry, but they are)?
For me, the problem lately hasnt been the finishing, its been the lack of clear cut chances we've been creating. I watched Utd play Sunderland last night and get very fortunate with an injury time goal that deflected onto a post and straight to Vidic for a tap in. If you read that this morning you would think "lucky b@stards" and assume that where the Mancs got lucky Liverpool didnt get the rub of the green against Fulham or West Ham, but there was a huge difference. It just seemed impossible that Utd hadnt scored as they created chance after chance and were denied by great tackling, great goalkeeping and sometimes blind luck. Watching the last two LFC home games i just couldnt see Liverpool scoring when they were relagated to long range shooting and hopeful set pieces. When the team is playing like that it you could have Torres, Owen and Fowler on the pitch on top form and it isnt gonna change the overall complexion of the game. Gerrard has not looked 100% since being injured, Riera hasnt pushed on after a promising start and some of the others are definitely playing within themselves at the moment.
In fairness though id rather have him back they flippin Bruno!
Hence the reason there was a smiley there ya whopper!

Who absolutely the fu.ck are you to make such rant?
He did walk away but to call him c.unt, well i think you can go f.uck yourself you tw@t. He doesn't deserve that.
He's not one dimensional and he does indeed fit the style we play.
GUESS WHAT, I THINK THAT IT IS YOU THAT ARE 1 DIMENSIONAL AND YOU CAN GO F.UCK YOURSELF CAUSE YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CLUELESS F.UCKHEAD.
Think clearly before ridiculing yourself.

To injury prone and wages to expensive.
There is better out there
Ace Ventura wrote:Voted yes, i can see why people are saying no though. The way he left was a bitter pill to swallow, sort of felt at the time that he was jumping ship and that.
Also his injury record is obviously a major concern.
Having said that, with Keane struggling (so far) to settle and Torres this season having terrible luck with injuries then we definately could do with a proven goalscorer like Owen.
His pace is gone but he is so clever with his movement and due to this will often be in the right place at the right time and will always score goals in any type of game.
Thats what we need. The amount of games we dominate but dont get killer goals is our weakness at the moment and with someone like Owen i think we would be likely to solve this problem.
He did let us down again when he signed for Newcastle, he should of had the balls to hold out and he was clearly motivated by keeping his England place, but thats the past. At the end of the day we are wanting to win the league so we want to do everything possible to win it, if that means giving Michael a second chance then it should be done.
Another thing is him being out of his beloved England squad, we could use that to our advantage if we were nogotiating for wages etc, as he knows that if he signed for us and was fit he would be back in straight away....not that a give a f'ck about England but if we can get him to sign on significantly reduced wages due to that factor then why not ?
We all know Rafa is probably going to be stubborn about the situation, but he really should forget about whats happened, football is full of things like what Owen did, lets be realistic there is not much loyalty in football nowadays so Michael is not on his own in that regard.
One thing i will say is with Owen people are not imo looking at the bigger picture.
We can all list his mistakes but what it should boil down to is....if we signed him would we be in with a better chance of winning the league ?
To anyone that says no they are a liar.
To anyone that actually thinks no....then i'd suggest an alternative sport to follow.
