Always remember to quote the post mate, otherwise you can end up looking the idiot instead of the person who can't tell the difference between a goalkeeper and a winger  :D

He's no world class player, but Im very impressed with the way he's played.

He brought much needed balance to the team, the difference in what you expect when he
gets it compared to Babel, is miles apart.

Matt McQueen - Liverpool 1892-1928.
Only professional to - play in goal (41 appearances), Defence, Midfield, Striker, and later be Director and then to be Manager (winning a Championship) - at one club

Agreed Effes, we all Knew he wasn´t Robben or Ashley Young, because there is ONLY ONE Robben and ONLY ONE Young.
It´s too unfair compare him to them. Totally unfair.

i think he's done a good job.

he can hold up the ball when he wants, he can cross, pops up with a goal now and then and is strong and relatively quick for his size....his decision making is quite good although sometimes i think he tries to go past the player TOO often.

he's no world-beater, but on his day he can trouble anyone, and he is much more consistant then anything we have had on the left flank for a long time now.....so i don't know why ppl like to b1tch and moan...?

I am more than happy with what Reira has brought to the team sice he arrived.

You have to remember that he is still in his "settling in" phase with the EPL. He is strong and has a willingness to work. That coupled with a decent left foot and we have a decent footballer. Good buy at the price we paid. I think he'll get better as the season progresses.

Keep up the good work Alberto :)

Here is the last interview of Albert Riera to the sports newspaper of Spain “Diario AS”.
I took the trouble to translate it from Spanish to English, but if anyone is not pleased with my translation, here is the link for any brave:
http://www.as.com/futbol....Tes

Enjoy ladz!

Interviewer: Tomás Guasch, Diario As | 04/01/2009:

First of all Albert:  What happened with Gerrard in that pub?

R: Well, some people here when they drink, uff! Steve is a calm, timid lad even, no aggressive. It seems that the other man was an Everton´s fan…

Ah well…

R:Sad, everything was very disagreeable.

Quite the opposite to the team which is outstanding!

R: Cause we have a tremendous team. Two players by position, lots of ambition, we are united and we have a strong dressing room of mind and legs, and a manager who infects the desire to work, to win…

And Real Madrid coming soon...

R: The heat round is fifty-fifty percent for both sides.

We are already running down (laughs).

R: That´s the truth! Honestly, we have an advantage: we´ll play the second leg at home. That´s why we fought to be first of the qualifying group.

For many people, Liverpool is the favourite for this knock out round.

R: Also Barça was favourite to Madrid in the classic one and they were going to score nine but they didn´t score until the eighty minute of the game. The away game will clarify many things. Ok, right now it´s too difficult to beat us….in Anfield and away. To surprise us is not easy, Liverpool is unbeaten in Anfield since one year. We use to attack a lot. There were many games that we created fifteen and twenty occasions and we threw fifteen corners… The best thing of the team is the confidence on ourselves. Benítez made some changes against Newcastle and we scored five!

What final score needs a team in the first leg to travel "warm" to Anfield, 2-0?

R: I can´t see myself losing by 2-0 in Bernabéu (Madrid stadium). Our mentality demand us to win always.  Man, that would be great result for them, but I do not consider the defeat… nor in the Bernabéu.

Real Madrid would have preferred another rival.

R: All we wanted Madrid.

Are you serious?

R: We wanted to play at  Bernabeu, because we don´t fear anyone, and  we can´t rest on our laurels : it has more endangered a team with less name. Against Madrid we´ll be extra motivated...

Especially Torres.

R: It´s normal... We are waiting for him with the open arms. He´s essential and will be key for the away game.

Do you know Lassana Diarra (the recent sign by Real Madrid from Portsmouth)?

R: No, but I know he´s a good player. Good scheduling for this Madrid so affected by the injuries.

What do you like of Real Madrid´s side?

R: The nature of Sergio Ramos, his way to play. We´ll see each other on the pitch (laughs), Robben is a magnificent player, Higuaín scores goals, Raul is the same as always... What more can be said of him?.

He was left without Euro2008 and you, too. Was that the worst disgust of your life?

R: It was. That´s football, friend...

Did you watch the games or switched off the TV?

R: I watched every games and I was glad with our triumph, of course.

Luis (Aragonés) was your coach at Mallorca. Did he explain to you why he left you out of the final list?

R: He made my debut in the first division, in effect. And not, he didn´t give me any explanation about my exclusion of the European Championship squad. This is as follows: nobody ask explanations when I play, so no one ask for them if I don´t. The next year it will be World Championship, the best opportunity for my “revenge”.

When you arrived to his new club what was the thing that surprised you more?

R: THE FEELING RED, people come here from all places to see the team. The love that any employee feels for his club, they spread it to you in three days. The costumes, the people who spent many years here and how transmitte the idiosyncrasy of the club to the new players. I was coming to fight in the middle of the table with Español F.C. to aspire a qualifying  in the UEFA Cup. I was surprised how get angry here when things go wrong...and by the moment there´s been a little bit. The environment forces you to strive to be better every day. IN SPORTIVE TERMS IT SURPRISED ME A LOT THE CENTRAL BACKS.

The central backs, why?

R: Because they are very good. The young Skrtel is who impressed me the most. It seems he would have carried all his life playing football. Hyypia who is going to have 700 games in his pockets and has a level of play and commitment enormous. Agger is wanted by Milan, because his contract expires in June. Carragher is the “Gerrard of the defence”, the classic RED of all his life. Both arrived in the club being children and carry it in the veins. There are four great centrals, a guarantee, and there are teams will not even have one like them.

Reina or Casillas?

R: Are the two best goalies right now, both are in the national team, regarded as the best in the world. Pepe has grown dramatically in Liverpool.

Are the rest of the players in the same form of Xabi Alonso?

R: He is playing as he really is: a phenomenon. A cracking player, tall and strong. Good header, dominates that here called the “tackling” (entrada).

We know perfectly Benitez, but what about Sammy Lee? He is a figure.

R:  He is. And the ideal for Rafa. Sammy is the gunpowder, which click, Another you instilled what is the Liverpool. On Benitez you can say that the way as he lives the football is difficult the things go wrong. He has all studied! and it is reflected in the team, which has everything: posts bent, forwards playing from outside to inside, midfielders capable of creating and destroying... All the Liverpool is a tribute to the job well done, in the field, in the stands, in the offices...

Is the Premier League so good?

R: Today the ideal football is at stake here: its pace, the atmosphere in the stands, everything is very attractive. There is no comparison with Spain, where he pays more attention to the ball, there are more touch, less occasions of goal in general. Different ways to interpret the same game.

You were two years ago at Man City, given on loan spell by the Español F.C with average performances. Why didn´t you stayed there?

R: Because finally they didn´t want me. The coach, Stuart Pearce, (the current coach Under-21 of England) wanted wing players who play inside, so I go back to Spain. Then, Ernesto Valverde (Español coach), talk and told me that he wanted me. Manchester City didn´t implement its option to purchase and I stayed in Montjuic (Español stadium).

At 21 years old, Mallorca sold you to the Bordeaux F.C. What did you learn from that experience?

R: A language, the first time that I left my home, a very good first year and a bad second... I left because Mallorca needed money, was the team where I was formed, I couldn´t refuse. I was going to a major club in France and the summary was positive. The first year we played the UEFA Cup. There were Celades, Pochettino, Caneira... The second, things got worse, we were just out of the UEFA Cup and the team was broken.

Alvaro Arbeloa told us that you speak english and french and you are never quiet even in the shower.

R: (laughs)Of course. I have that advantage with the languages and I am very talkative. I talk to everybody because that´s what I must do in a dressing room. That favours the good vibrations.

We have spoken of Mallorca, the team of your life.

R:The first one, the team of my home land... I will finish my career there because we´ll install in Palma de Mallorca. You know already that I am father from two months ago, Alejandra called my girl. I spend time in house more than in all my life! And now it's cold weather, seriously.

And what about Español F.C?

R:The club where I most improved. We played a really good football, I lived there everything, the bench, the success, the loan spell...
What about the UEFA cup final against Sevilla F.C?

R:The remembrance is in positive.... If the referee wouldn´t have sent Moises Hurtado off in that way so rigorous, we could had won that final perfectly.

What has Manacor (a small village of Mallorca) that everybody who was born there is a good sportman?

R: Because we have everything; sport facilities outdoor, indoor, facilities for practicing many sports. Rafael Nadal (tennis player), Xisco Muñoz (Betis player), Elena Gomez, (the first spanish gymnast who won the gold medal in a World Championship), my brother Site, who is in Greece... All are good and fellow countrymen.

Happy new year Albert…

R: You all too guys. I´ll see you in February..
