Would love him at the club, what have you heard like?

The Polish press is saying that he wants to move in Jan and that we are very interested in him.  I believe that we tried to get him in the summer but BVB did not accept our bid, we'll probably bid again if we sell some of our players.

They said they will only sell him for 20 million , i think if we offered 12 they might be tempted

Ciggy wrote:Liverpool to rival Man City for Bayern's Podolski
The unsettled Bayern Munich striker, Lukas Podolski, looks set for a January exit as he remains very unhappy with being left on the bench as a seemingly permanent fixture.

It has been reported that Jurgen Klinsmann is become increasingly annoyed with the German international's moaning about his position, and it is said that he is looking to replace him with Andrei Arshavin in the transfer window.

"Lukas is still the challenger to our two strikers and he must show he is better than them," said Klinsmann.

"That can be a long-term process -- over several months or years even."

"That is not a pleasant role for Lukas, he can't be content. And if I were him, I would also be unhappy," added Klinsmann.

Podolski has often said that he would like to return to the team of his youth, Cologne, but the Bundesliga minnows could never afford to match the offers coming from the Premiership.

Mark Hughes at Man City has already expressed his interest in taking Podolski to the Eastlands, but it being reported today that Liverpool coach Rafael Benitez is also a great admirer of the versatile front man.

He can play on either wing or down the middle, and would be certain of a regular start in
Benitez's rotation system. And Podolski would jump at the chance of joining a club with such a fantastic record in the champions League.

It may depend on whether Hicks and Gillet make more transfer funds available, or, even better for Benitez, a new owner comes to Anfield, but Benitez thinks that Podolski would be the missing link in his perfect front line.

What a rumor , would love him here . Fantastic player and still young with plenty of time to learn

Huge fan of Podolski. And he is my little brother's favorite player.  Maybe he wouldn't be great for LFC, maybe his form at club level hasn't been that impressive, but he obviously has talent and he is only 2 years older than Babel.

I like the look of Podolski, he has done it in a couple of major championships at international level.
To be fair to Bayern they do have Toni (who am not keen on but scores goals) and Klose who is a top player, so you can see why he may be substitute alot.
We are definately in need of at least on other striker in January and if we could get someone like him on loan then its definately worth a look.

He actually played quite a bit in his 1st season at Bayern but was poor.

maypaxvobiscum wrote:Premier League clubs Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have been given fresh hope of signing EURO 2008 star Xavi from La Liga giants Barcelona Xavi after talks about a new deal at the Nou Camp for the midfielder stalled again.

28-year-old Xavi is a product of the Barca youth set-up and has been at the Catalan club since 1991, but has not been able to agree a new deal at the Nou Camp, with the Spanish International’s current contract due to run out in 2010.

It is understood that there have been more than 10 meeting between Xavi and the Catalan club, but the two parties are still unable to come to an agreement, with the Spanish International seeking parity with top-earners Lionel Messi, Samuel Eto’o and Thierry Henry at the Nou Camp.

Director of football at Barcelona, Txiki Begiristain has admitted that the deal could take weeks or months to conclude and insisted that this type of deal is not easy to close.

Begiristain said: “Xavi is a great player and has some large expectations. In the world of the football it is not easy to close this type of contract because of the length of the deal and the need to keep a salary equilibrium of the staff.

“If it was easy the deal would already be done.”

However, Xavi’s agent Ivan Corretja revealed recently that the talks will not be allowed to go on forever and confirmed the interest in Xavi by clubs from the Premiership.

Corretja, told The Daily Star recently: “We have not been able to solve the situation at Barcelona, despite some months of negotiations. We feel he should be offered a deal which reflects his performances on the pitch.

“Everybody at Barcelona knows that there are some big European clubs interested in Xavi, particularly in England at the moment, and we will not allow this to go on forever.”

With 18 months remaining on Xavi’s current contract at Barcelona, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is monitoring the situation at the Nou Camp, with an offer in the region of £20million being mooted in the January transfer window to bring Xavi to Old Trafford. However, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is also keen to pair Xavi with countryman Cesc Fabregas at the Emirates Stadium, with Liverpool also reportedly interested in bringing the central-midfielder to Anfield.

not sure we need another midfielder but he is class.  :buttrock

That could be a good deal for us, a loan move will give us a chance to check him out. He can play on the left aswell as a striker.

Liverpool stars Ryan Babel and Daniel Agger wanted by Juventus

Juventus plan a double swoop for Liverpool's Ryan Babel and Daniel Agger.

The Serie A giants reckon they can take advantage of the financial uncertainty at Anfield and sign both players next summer.

Juve tried to buy Kop flop Babel in 2007 before he made his £11.5million switch from Ajax.

The Dutch winger has never lived up to his billing in the Premier League, but Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri believes he can be a success in Italy's top flight.

Defender Agger, 24, is in a stand-off with Liverpool over a new contract - and has also attracted the interest of AC Milan as a replacement for ageing Paolo Maldini, 40.

In turn Reds boss Rafa Benitez is tracking Hull defender Michael Turner, 25, along with Manchester City.

But Tigers chairman Paul Duffen has issued a hands-off warning to Liverpool and the Eastlands side.

He said: "There are no players who have regularly played in the first team who will be sold in January."

Juventus target Liverpool's Daniel Agger and Ryan Babel

Liverpool face a fight on their hands to retain the services of Ryan Babel and Daniel Agger, with reports suggesting Juventus will make a double swoop at the end of the season.

The Mirror suggests that Juve are to make an offer that Liverpool's owners - Tom Hicks and George Gillett - will find hard to refuse, and are hopeful of completing the transfers in the summer.

Juventus have tried to sign Babel before. The Serie A side, now coached by Claudio Ranieri, made an approach to Ajax in 2007, but Babel rejected Turin for Anfield and joined Rafa benitez's men for £11.7 million.

However, his time on Merseyside has not been as successful as he would have liked, with Benitez often using him as a substitute, and it recently emerged that the player had requested a loan move back to Holland.

A transfer to Juventus would offer the 21-year-old a regular starting role, as he looks to cement his place in the Dutch national team.

Agger, meanwhile, has also attracted the interest of AC Milan, who see him as the long-term replacement for the ageing Paolo Maldini, 40.

Agger is currently in a stand-off with Liverpool over the terms of a new contract and, as such, Benitez is reportedly lining up a bid for Hull defender Michael Turner, just in case.

Manchester City have also been linked with Turner, but Hull chairman Paul Duffen said: "There are no players who have regularly played in the first team who will be sold in January."
