Robbie keane - [EDIT: On His Way Back to Spurs]

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Funny guy,,,Harry Redknapp.

He knows damn well that Rafa wouldn't part with Keane for 5, after shelling out 20 mil for him, even with the current issues.

Harry's trying to rub salt in the wound here and it's a smart little play, TBH. It can't be good at Liverpool at the moment, with Keane's performances and how Rafa is choosing to use him, so this little poke in the ribs from Redknapp could maybe add a some fuel to the fire.

i think the bid the papers are talking about is a cash + exchange bid... 5mill in cash and players like Lennon and O'Hara mentioned aswell... would rather take Bale and Giovan Dos Santos to be honest, never rated LEnnon... they have some good players there... maybe Corluka, Modric, even Hutton could do a job for us...

Tripe. A load of tripe. hyped up dogsh!t from the media.

Rafa probably has just rested Keane, said to him "ok lad, I'll rest ya for the Blackburn game as we have enough to beat a struggling team like them, have a break and lets see the real Keane over the busy xmas period".

nothing more... nothing less.

Your not assured of a place in the line up here, no matter what your reputation or price tag.

Two things guarantee a start, goals, and performances - sadly he has shown none of either yet.

I agree Leon.

I was really pleased Rafa dropped him the other day. Hopefully it was the kick up the ar$e he needed and sent out  the message to his team mates that just beause you cost 20m it doesn't guarantee you place in the team.

What planet are you from?

The only thing that guarantee's you a start is if you run around alot like a Kuyt or if its your turn to play because your name is picked out of the hat at random.

Mind you, even Kuyt's been dropped after scoring this season.

You need to stop copying and posting because its getting really difficult to understand what side of whose fence you sit on.

You have to work through the BS headlines to get closer to the facts. The club still owe £10 million for the player so they are suggesting we could sell him back to Spurs for £15 million.

From Sky Sports

Benitez said on Monday: "Robbie's future is to be ready, to score goals and to work for the team.

"In football we know we have signed a good player, you cannot guarantee anyone's position. In some games he has to work hard.

"The challenge is there for him. When you sign a player for a lot of money, that is it. He becomes another player in the squad and he has to fight for his position.

"I do not know whether his confidence has been affected, we will see tomorrow.

"Clearly he has to show character, and show you are a good player. When we decide to sign him we knew he was a good player.

"I do not need to talk too much on this. A lot of top clubs have very expensive players, they have four of them on the bench every week.

"He has to know he needs to fight and work hard. But he has a future here, why not?"

Benitez added: "I have a lot of patience, with everybody. He will be here after the January window, it is not my idea to sell him.

"We are always working with the players, explaining and clarifying what they need to do for the team. Robbie is no different."

It seems Rafa has developed something of a liking for the word 'clearly'.

Completely OTT criticism of Keane which is fu.cking typical of this forum these days.

The lad didn't ask for the transfer fee, so don't blame him for the fact he cost 20 million which he was never worth in the first place.

That said, he is still a very good player without (with the exception of last season) ever being a top goalscorer.

He has struggled to adapt to the system we play.  He has been asked several times to play as a lone striker, when he is clearly uncomfortable with being the focal point of the attack.  He has neither the pace, size or strength to be a target man.  When played alongside Torres he has also found it difficult, but they haven't had any real time to gel with Torres missing most of the season.

He will come good though, he has been a quality player in the Premiership for about 10 years and is an International captain.  You don't lose that sort of quality overnight, he is just taking longer than we would have liked to settle.  People need to realise that and get off his fu.cking back, because it is not doing Keane or the team any good.

We ALL want Robbie to do well for us. He cost a lot of money so to even think about selling him would be a massive mistake. Robbie needs to keep going and the goals will come. It took Crouch a while but he got there in the end. I guess many on here were expecting the goals to just flow but it doesnt always work that way. A few more under his belt coupled with some good team performances will give him just the confidence boost he needs and dropping him on the weekend will have perhaps given him that extra hunger to do better next time he is given the chance. :;):
