Outgoings in Jan:

1. Keane back to Spurs- 10m. Any football fan, he is decent but not great???
He often looks nervous on the ball, and not confident?
2. Plessis out.
3. Lucas out.
4. N'gog out.

I just wondered:.......

Does any LFC fan in here, who pays hard earned money to watch games, live the dream, sit angry and frustration sometimes, think maybe we are going in the right direction??

Talk of Lucas out, Dossena out, Babel even, Lucas, and Degen out.

is this a sign aI wonder that LFC did not
need to stand their groung for [lans to habve such a fight?

As with other posts, what would be the point selling a handful of players who aren't good enough when we might raise £10m for Lucas, Plessis, Pennant and N'Gog, but we'd have FOUR holes in the squad to fill and £10m will not buy much quality in replacement.

We don't need another DM (Sissoko), we would have to pay as much or more than we sold him for, and I'm not sure we really need a DM at all. Alonso could do that job and more (than Mascherano), we shouldn't play a DM at home and if we want to win games then trying to play a DM, keep it tight and win is not necessarily the best tactic - home or away.

Anyone wants to know who might be sold in January, look no further than Alonso and Pennant. Both would have been sold in the summer, they are the likeliest sales in January as Alonso alone would raise £12m+ and that's the kind of money we need to reinforce the squad, not £2m or £3m here and there, shaving the squad to bare bones in the process. We did all that in the summer, sold Riise, Crouch, Carson etc and wasted it all on Keane.

I saw an interview with Rafa on SSN, he was asked about Pennant's attitude re his absence on Wednesday and Rafa defended his attitude etc. But when quizzed on his possible sale in January and more exacting questions about his long term future, and you could tell Pennant wasn't in his plans from his body language and response - even if he didn't spit it out in as many words. It's pretty damning when a player who barely makes the 1st team matchday squad doesn't make the reserves cup squad, Rafa didn't say he's selling Pennant, but I'm guessing he's more than open to offers.

As for Voronin, I wouldn't sell him, I'd bring him back asap. We are sorely lacking striking options with Kuyt out wide, Keane still settling and Torres was injured and is only just coming back into the reckoning. The other options are what? Babel and N'Gog. Voronin may not be ideal, but he did score four in his first 10 games for Liverpool and two in his last five. He's far from as bad as most on here like to knock him for being and he wouldn't cost a penny. Dream on if you think we can sell a few players and bring in a star player or two, we've done all that wheeling and dealing and the squad is now down to around the smallest it can be.

The other option is to actually sell players part of the first team squad and use the money to buy direct replacements. For example if we were to do a deal with Hamburg to sell Kuyt for £10 million, we could then use that money to buy a better right sided midfielder.

The final option is to promote some of the better youngsters into the first team squad and sell off fringe players. For example, Sell Dossena or Aurelio and promote Insua, sell Lucas and promote Plessis, sell Ngog and Voronin and promote Nemeth, etc.

Glad to see some level headedness in a thread full of dreamers.

Why sell Kuyt who does a good job on the right and replacing him would hardly solve all our problems, especially as he is joint top scorer. We might get more than £10m for him, Jol may well be interested, but why not sell someone like Mascherano who Citeh or spudz might well pay decent dollar for, who is important but could be done without and replaced at a lower cost than Kuyt? Not sure promoting kids is a realistic solution, if they were even close to 1st team squad selection they might be an option.

I think wheeling and dealing, selling half a dozen players to buy one or two of less than top quality would be insanity. Not sure it would be any less insane to promote kids. Maybe the best option is to sell off Pennant if we can, maybe even Hyypia and spend what we can raise from those two and the board. Accept we are highly unlikely to be buying a £10m or £20m superstar and instead see if we can land a quality bargain or two. Maybe we've just been overfed the big money signings in recent seasons, unfortunately Rafa has spent too much on less than fully successful signings - £20m on Keane, £7m on Dossena, £5m on Benayoun (fringe player), £5m on Lucas (lightweight), £11.5m on Babel (pacey gap filler) and around £1.5m apiece on Leto and N'Gog

I'm less than convinced Rafa would spend any money wisely, I'd be absolutely p1ssed off if we sold say Kuyt, Benayoun and Pennant to fund the purchase of a certain villa midfielder. I think we are currently 'work in progress' and it might be completely stupid to try, and nigh on impossible to quick fix all our problems. We need a RB, LB, another striker and some would argue a RM. How on earth are we going to fix all that in January with little cash, some surplus players who ain't worth much and a manager who specialises in paying over the odds for players or bosmans? Most people in this thread seem to be CM/FM players who probably could wheel and deal a fix, but that's because it's make believe footy management games and not realistic. I can sell the likes of Bellamy for £13m, Cisse for £12m, Pennant for £7.5m, Gonzalez for £7.5m, Paletta for £6m, Finnan for £4m, Riise for £8.5m, Zenden for £7m and Kewell for £7m - does that seem like realistic? £72m for players we didn't/couldn't get half that for. I could then sign Messi for £7m, Torres for £10m................. need I go on?

As you rightly point out Alonso is the most likely candidate if we're talking about selling a player that will bring in a decent amount of cash, however based on his generally much improved performances this season I would view the sale of Alonso as a step towards weakening rather than reinforcing the squad.

I wouldn't expect too much movement from us in the January window but think that come the summer we will definitely see a lot of "fringe" players being shown the door.

How many times have you pulled people (myself included) up for being selective with stats in this way ? And then you do it yourself?

Rafa recently said he could have signed Aguiro for 18.5m. He also very nearly signed Alves if I remember correctly but pulled the pin because of the price. Silva is the odd one out but if we threw big money at Valencia I think we could have had him.

Pretty much all of his 10m+ signings have worked out, it is just the endless number of 3-4m players we have signed that have turned out :censored:

. How many signings below 5m have worked out for us. If only 1 in 10 of these work out you might as well quite screwing around and spend the 30m on the one player.

Making changes will have a detrimental affect on our title challenge. I think we should sell (if we can) Degen and Dossena, Pennant and Itandje.

Have to get rid of these 3 players.... They don't have the minimum technique to play at this level.

I rather give pennant a game instead of babel. Pennant at least has a decent 1st touch....he doesn't lose the ball as much.

As for lucas.....if he is not sold soonest.....beneitz will drop either alonso or mashcherano for more games as an excuse to give lucas a game...

at least 7 players can go in january as far as i"m concerned. if we need to sell before we can buy,i"d rather have the money to buy just 1 or 2 really good players rather than be stuck with fringe players who are totally out of their league, & contribute feck all to our squad,which will breed more frustration come the run in.
