Things are going from bad to worse for Manchester United fans right now. Not only do they have to contend with Real Madrid dangling the world’s biggest carrot in front of Cristiano Ronaldo (and there’s nothing that the Portugeezer likes better than the orange vegetable), it now appears as though one of their star midfielders could be out with a long-term injury.

What’s worse, the injury to Anderson occurred as a result of a crunching Javier Mascherano challenge on Wednesday evening, when Brazil were playing Argentina. It’s not as if there needs to be any further bad blood between Liverpool and United, especially as they ‘enjoy’ such a fierce rivalry already.

Setanta report that angry Anderson left the field on a stretcher, clutching his knee. United fans will hope he makes a speedy recovery and is ready for the start of what could be a very productive season for the midfielder, especially if his mate’s playing in the white of Real Madrid come the start of the new campaign.

It may have been Brazil versus Argentina, but it was not without a taste of the North-West of England, it seems.

The South American rivals played out a rather disappointing goalless draw last night in their World Cup qualifying clash, a game that will more likely than not be remembered for the jeers directed at Dunga and the injury picked up by midfielder Anderson.

The Manchester United man went to ground following a challenge from Javier Mascherano, and would not get back up.

He was in considerable pain as the medics tried to work on the outside of his left knee, and was almost in tears as he was stretched off after three long minutes.

There is fear of ligament damage, something that could rule the youngster out for the start of the season if not more, particularly if it is the anterior cruciate ligament.

However, a confirmation will only come after scans later today, so there is reason for Manchester United and Brazil fans to hope it is nothing serious

Well there was nothing at all wrong with the tackle (somewhat disappointingly so in a way). Won the ball absolutely clean as a whistle.

It was a terrible game, I gave up at halftime.

A totsal of 100 Brazilians were registered for the Champions League last season - the equivilent of 9 full teams and these lads after 50 weeks in europe come back and are expected to play the beautiful game, forget it! Dunga is wasting his time trying to get them to play Brazilian football, they were playing typical european slow build up across the back style footie. Dunga has no experience of this - he had never managed before he got the Brazilian job. Maureen would be their ideal manager, knows the european game inside out and of course, speaks the local vernacular.

Sadly Brazilian football has regrettably passed the point of no return.

LIVERPOOL star Javier Mascherano will dedicate his Olympic gold medal to Rafa Benitez if Argentina beat Nigeria.

Masch, 24, wants to add another gold to the one he won at Athens in 2004.

Initially, Kop boss Benitez was reluctant to let the Argentine play in the Olympics.

But Masch said: “If I win, I’ll especially dedicate my success to Rafa.

“He’s a very important person in my life.

“I hope to God I can take another gold to Liverpool.

Class Thats what Mascherano is :nod

yeah right, a bit of press talk and we're all calmed. I'm not forgetting that he'll miss at least another 2 weeks and will probably be well off the pace for another month. just like last eyar with the copa america.

Sorry masch but if we do sign barry you might find yourself on the bench behind alonso and barry. (deservedly so)

Yeah plessis isn't a patch on the masch but at the end of the day if you put your country first when clealry the club is completely put out by doing so you have to accept dropping down the pecking order.

I can say for sure if he were a utd player he'd not have even thought of going!

thank god you don't post alot cos simply you talk utter :censored: . Rafa could have not let mascherano go but he would have been an unhappy player . Whats the point of having an unhappy player , rafa wanted to avoid that so he let him go and play for his country , united with all their injuries problems still let anderson go and did not recall him back .
