Good article, with some facts to remind us of the way things were in our golden era.
Times have moved on on me and perhaps I am getting older. How can I forget the team of 1986 who won the double? Who were they - let's try to remember. Grobbelaar - Zimbabwean, Nicol - Scottish, Hansen - Scottish, Lawrenson - Irish, Beglin - Irish, Craig Johnston - Aussie, Molby - Danish, MacDonald - Scottish? (MacMahon the first chioce was injured, I think), Whelan - Irish, Rush - Welsh, and the great man himself Dalglish - Scottish. Ther were no subs used. We fell behind to a goal by Lineker midway in the second half and was all over the place. Beglin confused Grobbelaar after that Lineker goal and Grobbelaar pushed him and mouthed him off and then instsntly passed to him. Grobbelaar made an acrobatic save after Sharpe saw him off his line and he had to scamper backwards to tip the ball over. That was the turning point to me. It was time to rally the troops.
Come the second half, Liverpool raised their game and once equalised, there was no turning back. Molby was spraying passes at will, all over the pitch. Everton had their best 11, with the exception of Southall who was deputised for by Mimms.
Was there an Englishman? No. Was there a local lad? No. Did we run over Everton from the start? No. We got behind, rallied and finished on top.
We need players who have the heart to run and play for Liverpool, we need a great team spirit. WE need to get rid of player power and mega egos, if there are any. We recerive little for the sale of Owen but we must move on. Let's move on.
Guys, you are all hardcore fans (I presume by reading your threads here). Give your support to Benithez, as we have stagnated in spite of all the progress made by Houllier. This man Benithez is brave enough to take the tough decisions, much like what he did at Valencia, and has the pedigree as a winner. I am behind the new regime all the way.
