If you played with a club for 13 years and haven't won the Champions Cup or the League Title would you blame yourself for wanting to move on and try to become even better?

Here's a reminder for those who have forgotten:

Since 1998 Owen has been Liverpool's top scorer every season and hit 19 goals in an injury hit 2003/04 campaign.

The star of Liverpool's 1996 FA Youth Cup triumph, Michael has been with the club since a schoolboy and scored prolifically as he rose rapidly through the Anfield ranks.

During the summer of 1998 he achieved worldwide fame following his stunning strike in the World Cup second round clash between England against Argentina. Off the pitch he collected the PFA Young Player of the Year for season 1997-98 and in 1998 was also voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

It was in the treble season that Owen continued and enhanced his reputation in the treble season. He hit two goals against AS Roma in the UEFA Cup and followed that up with two magnificent late goals to win the FA Cup Final for Liverpool in Cardiff against Arsenal - a match which has since been called 'The Michael Owen Cup Final'. That just confirmed his standing as one of the most exciting strikers in Europe.

He followed that up by scoring a sensational hat-trick in England's 5-1 win over Germany, becoming the first England player since Sir Geoff Hurst in 1966 to score a hat-trick against Germany.

Michael was named European Footballer of the Year in December 2001 when he received the prestigious ballon D'or and scored his 100th Liverpool goal against West Ham at Upton Park on 29th December 2001.

In the 2002/03 season Owen scored 28 goals for Liverpool including his 100th in the Premiership with a hat-trick at West Bromwich Albion. Owen also scored at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff again when Liverpool beat Manchester United 2-0 to win the Worthington Cup.

He has now scored more goals for England than any other Liverpool player when he surpassed Anfield legend Roger Hunt. (LFCtv)

when was the last time owen had an injury free season

most players miss a few matches each season throught injury. Last season he missed more than most. He played over 50 matches the year before that and scored 28 goals. If his confidence is high and he scores in the big matches (remember the FA cup final, Roma in the UEFA, Eng/Ger) we'll be the ones missing him not the other way round.

I know its time to forget about it and move on, its just taking me a while.

Yea I agree but I wanted to see with Liverpool when they win the Premiership, this is just sad. How great would had been with Owen,Gerrard,Cisse and everybody else holding the title?

The way I look at it Owen always said he would never do a McManaman to us and he kept his word, ok we only got £8m + Nunez but we could have got fook all in January.

Basically I'm sad to see Owen go even though I think it was a good move for Owen and LFC as both parties needed to move on from each other, it does upset me thinkin about Michael wearing the white of Madrid.

I say good luck to the lad and thank you for all you have done for us, I'll sing his name with pride if he ever returns to Anfield weither it be in a red shirt or not

Owen did the business in an F.A. cup final for us....apart from that he doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as real Liverpol legends...he always looked happier playing for England anyway...maybe he just likes white jerseys ?

To be honest the people who say i cant understand why he has gone or whats he gone there to sit on the bench for really do need to look at the bigger picture. The biggest club side in the world has given him the chance to parade his talents on a bigger stage. If we were in his shoes how many of us would have took this chance? Owen has been a great servant to this club and i dont think anyone can really blame him for leaving when it was obvious that he just wasnt happy here no more. Another thing is that he is now way he will be going there thinking that he will be sitting on the bench. Michael will believe that he is going there to show the fans that he is a world class player, a regular and not 4th choice. Just no point in being bitter. We should thank him for his services and golden moments and wish him all the best.

Its not so much a question of being bitter, but more a question of being honest. honest with the club, and fans of his intentions he led us all to think he would sign a new contract he would have recieved a better "send off " if he had come clean and not left it until the new season was upom us thus forcing LFC to very little option but to sell him at a knockdown price, which lets be honest ourselves here is a insult to his talents and LFCs bargining position.

Other than cup final against Arsenal what golden moments ?

In general supporters aren't upset that he is leaving. We are annoyed because he strung the club along for nearly two years and it has cost us around £15 million.

My opinion of Patrick Vieira grew today. He was tempted by Real Madrid but said he has unfinished business at Arsenal.

Vieira is a true champion, a world cup winner, euro 2000 winner and premiership winner but remains loyal to the club that supported him when he was surplus to requirements at AC Milan.

Liverpool supported Owen through his injuries, Gerard Houllier used to kiss his a*s*s (even when he missed penalties) and instead of showing loyalty he has sulked like a schol kid for the last 18 months.

I'm from Ireland but when I went to anfield for the games I used to be amused by the scousers devotion to Robbie Fowler even though often Owen used to be in better goal scoring form.....but now I understand. Robbie had his difficulties during the latter part of his Liverpool career, but one thing is for sure, he'd never have messed us around like Owen has.

The thing is redordead i just dont believe it was his intention to hurt us whatsoever. Yes there are questions to be asked and maybe he has some answering to do but i for one dont feel bitter towards him.
