Blanc Slams Door On Liverpool's Riise
Juventus chief executive, Jean Claude Blanc, has revealed the club will not be signing a left-back and thus has closed the door on Liverpool’s John Arne Riise.

The Norwegian left-back was linked with a move to the Bianconeri who are currently reinforcing their squad ahead of their Champions League return.

Riise’s future at Anfield is looking in doubt and reports in Italy claimed that Juve were paying close attention to the stopper.

However, the Bianconeri have revealed that they have no intention of signing a left-back.

“I can confirm that we will keep the left hand side of our defence as it is,” said Blanc.

“Cristian Molinaro and Paolo De Ceglie will be competing for the left-back place as they are two players who we have plenty of faith in.

“We want to show everyone that we can go far with our own home-grown players.”

The Bianconeri have already captured Albin Ekdal as well as Amauri and they are currently in talks over Xabi Alonso’s availability from the Reds.

Juventus president, Giovanni Cobboli Gigli, has in the past stated his intentions to focus on youth and it seems as if his philosophy is being adhered to by his directors.

Chance of Real Madrid move for Xabi Alonso

May 31 2008 by Chris Beesley, Liverpool Daily Post

JUVENTUS’S hopes of capturing Xabi Alonso are under threat with Real Madrid poised to enter the race to sign the Liverpool midfielder.

The Spanish club have admitted defeat in their open pursuit of Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo after the newly-crowned European champions threatened to report them to FIFA over their conduct in trying to tempt the Portuguese winger to the Bernabeu.

With Ronaldo remaining at Old Trafford, Real are now looking at alternative high-profile captures to satisfy their supporters and Alonso, a Spanish international with 40 caps, fits the bill.

President Ramon Calderon said: “You can’t buy what the owner doesn’t want to sell. We have not interfered with Manchester United’s contract agreement with Cristiano Ronaldo. We’re sorry that Manchester United, a club with which we have an excellent relationship, is annoyed with us.

“I want to clear this up and assure them we are not going to influence any player to break a contractual relationship. We are not going to start a conflict. If a club doesn’t want to sell a player, why would we insist that they do sell him?”

Juventus remain keen to reunite Alonso with Momo Sissoko, his former colleague in the heart of the Liverpool midfield, but the Basque-born player is keen to keep his options open.

One of Juventus’s directors, Jean-Claude Blanc, met with Anfield officials last week and was warned that it would take an offer in the region of £16million to prise Alonso away.

At the time, Liverpool stressed that they did not need to sell the player but with Gareth Barry expected to arrive from Aston Villa next week, the 26-year-old is resigned to accepting his days with the club are numbered.

His agent Inaki Ibanez stated that he had a clear idea that Liverpool would like to sell his client but stressed that a decision would not take place until after next month’s European Championship finals in Austria and Switzerland. One sticking point over a potential move to Serie A’s most successful side is Liverpool’s transfer valuation with the Italians reluctant to pay more than £14million for a player who cost Rafael Benitez £10.5m from Real Sociedad when he arrived at Anfield in 2004.

However, Alonso’s price tag would prove no such problem for big spenders Madrid who had been prepared to fork out a world record for Ronaldo.

The player, whose partner Nagore Aranburu gave birth to a son Jon in March, is believed to be holding out for a return to his homeland for his young family.

The Turin-based outfit are under pressure to deliver a big name recruit after already missing out on former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini, who opted to join their rivals AC Milan.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s second choice goalkeeper Charles Itandje is attracting interest from FA Cup winners Portsmouth plus former club Lens, who have just been relegated, and fellow French side Rennes.

The 25-year-old, who failed to play in the Premier League last season, saw his only first-team action in seven FA and Carling Cup games.

Rafael Benitez is in the market for a fresh understudy to Pepe Reina and has targeted Itandje’s compatriot Ulrich Rame.

gareth barry £15 million
Frank Ribery £21 million
dela red £9 million
Quaresma £12 million
David Villa £18 million
dossena 7.8 million

Well, it looks good, but it's hardly likely we'll get more than a couple of those (i.e, Barry and Dossena)...

The pacey winger joined Porto in 2004 from Barcelona where he failed to make a huge impact. However the 23 year old's career has taken off since his move to Portugal. He is one of the most highly rated wingers in Europe and has become the subject of much transfer speculation.

The rumours over Quarema's future had died down for the last few months, but now that reports have emerged today that he wants to leave the club, it looks as though Liverpool may try make another £15 million bid for the Portuguese international.

I personally think that he would be a great signing for Liverpool especially with their need of natural winger. It is also thought that if they don't manage to snatch up Quaresma, David Bentley would be another possible £8.5 million target for the Merseysiders.

Oh God, please let this happen!

Is this the same bloke who said they wouldn't buy anyone just before they signed Sissoko?

Blackburn are lining p Michael Kightly as a Summer target to repalce David Bentley who is increasingly looking Liverpool bound according to reports
The 23 year old joined Rovers from Arsenal in 2006 after spending loan spells at both Ewood Park and Norwich. Under the wing of Mark Hughes, Bentley has matured into one of the best wingers in the Premier League today. With his great domestic performances for Blackburn he has also edged his way into the England first team.

Bentley is currently valued at £8.5 million but personally I think he is worth considerably more than that. With Mark Hughes in talks with Man City, Bentley may also be considering his future at Ewood Park. I think he ould be a great signing for Liverpool and exactly what they are looking for in a winger at the moment and at a knock down price.

Would seem to open the door, hopefully

Yeah but it could urge Juventus to give us the 16 million that we want, because they're acting like a bunch of cheap :censored:.

According to some people on RAWK, Dossena is already at Melwood having a medical.  Let's hope it's true, he'd be a great addition to our team.
