Ive just had the most brilliant 3 days in Madrid. It was a great night well actualy 3 in the morning when Real came to the Sibeles and celebrated and thousands of fans stayed there until 4 waiting for them . I was in the middle of it all with my daughter  me being a footie fan like.

Sabs did you see on Spanish telly them lads with the cup and Rauls picture on it. well we was next to them and when they found out i was from Liverpool gave me the cup to take a pic with.

Sky was there well the spanish one and they asked me what i thought of the celebrations . Had to get in i was from Liverpool and our one was better in 2005  dont know wether they showed it though . But if you see an awl girl Sabs with a scouse accent talking on your telly it was me.

While i was there i went the stadium and had a nosy round the ground even sat in them seats on the subs bench. and went in the changing rooms . State of the art unbelievable.

Met a fella called Radi Antic while i was there my friend lives next door to him and had a good chat about Torres with him

All in all a great weekend

Wow, sounds like you really had a great time Nanny!  Madrid must have been one huge party with all those people out in the streets.  Wish I was there.

Hi Nanny, I've avoided any pic of the celebration in the Cibeles Square as triumphant Real Madrid makes me heartburn.

But I'll try to spot you if I can now :D Nice to see you had a good time. To be honest, this year I've followed the primera division not much, I've been more focused in the depths of Segunda and the Liverpool games.

By the way Radomir Antic is not just a fella, he's probably one of the coaches with more games in Spain.

The Serbian

is well known here. You indeed were lucky again to talk with someone who knows his footie both as a coach (Atletico Madrid, Zaragoza, etc) and player (Partizan Belgrade).

The corridor thing to the winners is a tradition here, and it's just  a unfortunate coincidence Barcelona has to make a corridor today. It's a bit humilliating .

On the aprreciation of LFC2007 about neither Real Madrid and Barcelona being strong enough, he's right. The less worst team won the league this year, but as I've said, not that I've seen lots of complete primera games this season, highlights and pieces of games mostly.

Being a bit of a Barca fan on the side I can confirm it was embarrassing to see just how poor they were against Real last night. Real have been nothing special at all this season but neither has the league as a whole.

The crux of the problem Barca wise has been way too many ego's butting heads in the dressing room and a manager that hasn't been strong enough to cope with them.
Ronaldinho's return to partying and going to training only when he wasn't too hungover. The story that 10 (yes thats 10 and not a typo) squad players going through divorces during the season (maybe the soap's been dropped once too often in the camp nou showers!!!  :p ) have all just mixed to produce a really poor campaign from a squad packed full of world class talent.

A mention must be made of the excellent season little Villareal
(la submarinos amarillos [sp?] - the yellow submarine). A team from a town that is about a 1/4 the size of Liverpool I believe and they've secured 2nd place in la liga. Pellegrini has done a fantastic job there without spending mega bucks and still attracting big name stars.

Yes Vila-Real are a small town, the finances are sorted by a businessman of the construction. You know how this goes, it's a bit a little Spanish Chelsea. They'll be up there until the guy is caught in his corrupt business and sent to jail :D

But credit where credit is due, their supporters, despite bandwagon, are quite decent in their attitude. No violence, good fiesta, good footballing atmosphere. And their chairman, corrupt or not, has been wise enough to give time -- very unSpanish -- to Pellegrini, a good manager.

Then of course they have quality, Nihat, Pires, they've got a good bunch of good football mercenaries there.

Interesting choice by the Barcelona board in Guardiola.
The guy was a beast of a player - able to drop a ball on a sixpence without threatening it's edges.

As a manager/coach though of such a massive club and with all the politics the pressure really will be on him from the go. The early word on him is that he doesn't like the big stars and their ego's so the summer comings and goings at the camp nou should be all the more interesting.
I don't think we'll be seeing Messi signing for Liverpool in a cut price £10 million deal though! :D

Guardiola was like a clock, he received the ball in the middle and always had the best pass option, without thinking, like a clock machinery, and very accurate. He wasn't fast, he didn't run with the ball a lot, he just did that. He just had the opposition running after his pass, left, he gave pace to Barcelona's game by giving pace and accuracy to the ball.

And for what is worth, he was a gentleman in the pitch. You know in the archrivals there is always a Rooney or Neville you hate more, this was the kind of player that even for an archrival fan, he wouldn't cause loath.

It's a very interesting player to watch, download an old game to see a Barcelona game -- I do that aswell with other old glories of European football I hadn't the chance to appreciate when I was much younger.

But, as a coach? He's a total unknown to me.

Current RS coach who knows him, says he's more a coach than a footballer, as in, he'll be even greater as a coach than as a player. He talks praises about him. But who knows.

No doubt Guardiola will know to handle the catalan media, will know how is the Barcelona dressroom, will know to handle those subtle political things that surrounds Barcelona and no doubt he'll have the respect of the crowd from the beginning.

But results are the Dictator in Spain. Nothing of that will count if he doesn't get the results. He won't be given time. I hope he's lucky.

I know it was mentioned on Revista de La Liga (SKY Sports Programme for those that aren't aware) that Guardiola had just taken the Barcelona B team to their league title but being a success at one level doesn't guarantee it at a higher level.  Success is not going to be a hope of the Barca fans next season it'll be expected/demanded and I am surprised that their board are taking a big gamble like this.
Personally I would have given him the job now in a caretaker role to get his feet under the table and to see how he does.
I suppose that the only reason they haven't would have been because Rijkaard will be remembered as a legend after bringing them their second European cup and it probably would have been a bit too disrespectful to treat him in such a way.

Didnt know you liked Barca Rushie

Little story from a few years ago . I was staying with friends on holiday in a place called Playa San Juan just outside Alicantie. in the close season. My friends husband had broken hes Ankle and it was in plaster. We were all messin around by the swimming pool and hes plaster got wet . Well he phones up the club doctor in Madrid and said he was going to the hospital down there to have it recast,

The doc in Madrid said get on the next flight home to have it looked at there just in case any of the doctors in the hospital are Barca supporters and they tamper or do something wrong. So thats what he had to do .    Go all the way back to Madrid just to have his plaster recast.

I thought at the time how stupid but i didnt realise how serious they hated each other

Barca and Real don't really operate in the same way that English clubs to. We're a bit of an exception to the European norm, really, when it comes to giving managers time and the freedom to impose themselves on a club. Rijkaard is never going to get 10 years as a manager at Barca, as we have seen it only takes a couple of seasons of underachieving (by which I mean not winning trophies) and the natives get very restless. It's a completely different culture to English football.
