Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Riise is a truly stupid and untalented plus expensive waste of space, I have absolutely no time for him and even if we just get 50 pence for him I'd say deal. He ruined our chance of getting to another champions league final with that moronic header plus terrible defending at Stamford Bridge. He was ok a few years back but has been a joke this season, get rid as soon as possible.

I really do not understand some of the anit-Riise and even anti-Finnan comments

I think along with Hyypia, Riise is up there as Houllier's best signings, ok that's not great praise.

I really do like and rate Riise, he is far better than Aurelio. I can except buying another even better left back (like Lahm) but I would keep Riise not Aurelio.

The same goes for Finnan and Arbeloa, I liked Arbeloa at first but can be shaky, buy another Quality right back, sell Arbeloa not Finnan. even though Finnan is knocking on now, will be ok for 2-3 years

Sorry but you are going to have to tell me what is so great about Riise, this season, not any previous seasons.
Do you honestly think he played well against Chelsea over the two legs?

Well he hasn't played too much this season but I still think he is a reliable and solid defender and also one of the best left backs in the Premiership. His moments of thunderous goals haven't been too regular the last year and half but I still think he is a good defender

riise is 2years past it and was never that good anyway if you take his shooting and stamina away hes a poor player in every other department

insua shoul be our leftback next season hes got massive potential but needs to start playing first team football before it goes to waste

personally id keep auerillo(far better then riise anyone who disagrees is an idiot) and insua as our leftbacks next season and use the money we have for a rightback and a couple of wingers

I used to back Riise, but he has shown no drive or determination this season, so he has to go, he is a liability to the team, I agree about Insua, he looks good.

It says a lot when a youngster comes in and gives better performances than Riise. He needs to go.

Riise has been a good servant to LFC, but the time has come for LFC to move on and Riise too. We need a much better LB, and Riise at best would be backup. At his age and what he has been through for the club, I don't think he's willing to do that.

I would say get rid of both Riise and Aurelio, bring in a world-class LB and keep Insua as backup. I like the looks of Insua. He was composed and looks better defensively than Riise and Aurelio. Though maybe playing in a meaningless match may have something to do with that.

i love riise but think he's looked very sluggish this season and even out of shape. he usually gotforward and got a few strikes on goal in every game but this season he's looked unwilling to attack and poor defensively. i think he mistake against chelsea was down to a lack of confidence from not starting this season. riise would've cleared that with his right foot a few seasons ago. however there's no excuse for his poor performance in the 2nd leg and that for me was what ended the debate on riise. maybe we're looking for barry as our new left back!?

Riise vs aurelio? i'll take aurelio in a heartbeat. The bad thing about aurelio....he's injury prone. I'm not anti-riise or anything, but for the last 2 seasons, he's not the player he once was. This season, if i'm not mistaken, the 2 goals he scored was an own goal against luton and recently, 'own goal  of the season' against Chelshit. Defensively, he's awful. Workrate? don't ask and still he had the guts to talk about a new contract..i don't like the attitude. You let the fans and your team down and you still managed to brag to the media about not getting a new contract? :no

There is no room for sentiments here. There is no doubt he is a loyal servant but we cannot afford to have any "waste of space" players in our team if we want to win the title. We simply cannot have a LB who can't defend, can't cross, can't improve on his technical skills, and now can't even shoot straight!

So goodbye Riise. Thanx for the memories and good riddance!

I am more angry about his pathetic defending in the 2nd leg than the own goal in the 1st game.  He's had an easy ride for the last few years, enough is enough.  See you later Riise!!

corrected.

He's been lucky to be here for four seasons under Rafa, anyone who has watched Liverpool for even a season should know Riise isn't a strong enough defender. Sure he has his moments, but LB has been a problem pretty much since we last won the league and Rafa hasn't sorted it. In fact there are plenty of positions not properly sorted, quite why he has so many behind him is a mystery bearing that in mind - LB, LM, RM, CF (one of) Four seasons in and still four positions not properly sorted.
