No shock there, that was 100% going to happen as soon as he didn't leave the pitch quick enough ???

The problem we now have is do we appeal against any further punishment when and if it is decided, remembering what happened to Middlesborough over Alliadiere when they appealed ?

I seem to recall reading that if we appeal against the charge the   hearing/suspension is delayed  enabling him to play against arsenal, probably dreamt it though.  :O

What a load of hoolala over an incident that only a few months back was happening all the time.

Mascherano is the fall guy I fear.

All ive read is how he is the scapegoat because of the ashley cole incident. How he should of kept his mouth shut. How rafa should have known that the ref was out to make a point.

How about this. The FA, the managers, the backroom staff, the supporters all know this is a big rival game. Why didnt the FA appoint a neutral referee who is respected by both managers to referee this game? Why was a ref, who is inadequate to referee a mid table game allowed to officiate this game? Why is it on rafas head to know how incompetent this referee is, people asking why rafa didnt have a word.

He shouldnt have to. The FA should just open there eyes once and see for themself.

Mascherano got exactly what he deserved (a yellow card) the first offence was a joke of a booking though.

As for Bennett, why was the most whistle and card happy referee allowed to take this game?

Absoloute joke, he's a :censored: poor referee and the FA knew what they were doing when they gave him this game.

Shambles.

The Football Association have extended the deadline for Javier Mascherano to respond to his improper conduct charge until 6pm on Friday.

The Liverpool midfielder has been on international duty with Argentina, and the FA have agreed to a 24 hour extension.

However, the date for the case - scheduled to be heard by a regulatory commission - has been brought forward to Thursday April 3.

The charge came after studying Mascherano's reaction to his dismissal from Sunday's 3-0 Barclays Premier League defeat at Manchester United.

The Argentinian midfielder had to be dragged from the pitch by coaching staff and colleagues after being shown a red card in the 45th minute by Steve Bennett.

The referee had given Mascherano a second yellow following his protests against a caution issued to Liverpool striker Fernando Torres.

Reds boss Rafael Benitez admitted Mascherano made a mistake in refusing to leave the pitch, but felt his sending off was harsh.

Mascherano can accept or deny the charge and also has the option of requesting a personal hearing.

The 23-year-old is currently serving a one-match suspension for the dismissal, ruling him out of Sunday's Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield.

But if the charge of improper conduct is upheld then he will also miss Barclays Premier League games against Arsenal on April 5 and Blackburn eight days later.

However, any ban would exclude the Champions League quarter-final first and second legs against Arsenal on April 2 and 9.

Boro's appeal was deemed frivilous, Mascherano maintains he was only asking the referee a question which is fair enough if a) true and b) the FA panel accept that was so. He'll miss the Arsenal game if he's unsuccessful anyway so it's worth taking the risk, we can cope without him in any other games as he would miss the two hardest fixtures left and would be back for the last game

Any appeal by us could also be deemed frivolous, as the F.A will no doubt point to the fact that  Bennet gave Mascherano ample opportunity to keep his mouth shut, they will point to the so called 5 or 6 incidents where he was warned ( depending on what paper you read!). If they deemed the Alliadiere appeal to be of little or no worth they can just as easily do the same to our appeal. Plus considering how they have IMO used Mascherano to stamp their authority on this zero tolerance they are going to impose then they are not likely to take lightly any appeal regarding the first and probably last case under this new regime.

He's admitted to improper conduct, and the club have fined him two weeks wages.

From AP: "We will fine the player," Benitez said Friday. "He proposed giving the fine to a charity and everything is sorted internally."

Sounds fair enough to me. Am guessing news on an extended ban will soon follow.

he realised that the FA would ban him further, so probably took the lesser of the two evils and face a one mamch suspension instead.

sensible mascherano

however the sending off was harsh in the first place though, imo

The two weeks wages fine and giving it to charity is a PR exercise by the club to show the FA they dont have to make an issue of the hearing. Lets hope the FA reciprocates and reduces the ban to just the arsenal game tho in all likelihood they´re out to make a statement so will go for the two game option.

Lesson learnt, n´est pas?

Javier Mascherano has voiced his determination to ensure Liverpool do not finish another season empty-handed.

The Reds failed to claim silverware this term to leave the Anfield club without a trophy since they lifted the FA Cup in 2006.

But Mascherano, who penned a four-year contract with Liverpool in February, has vowed to claim glory in the 2007/08 campaign.

"It is a matter of great pride for me to represent the famous name of Liverpool," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"I want to play my part in making this club even more successful. I want to ensure this is the last season without a trophy for a long time.

"We had a season which had many highlights but also left us with a feeling that maybe we could have achieved more.

"There are some important lessons we must think about as a team during the summer months and learn before we come back for next season, on top of our own individual thoughts.

"We lost too many points at home - we can't do that next year. We lost too many late goals and didn't kill teams off sometimes when we had the chances."
