Its funny how alot of foreign players cant speak a word of English yet they know how to say "F.uck off"

. Maschas English is good though.

Masch was wrong, IMO, but why should a manager slate him in public and risk alienating a player who's been excellent for us by embarassing him?

Rafa was right... support him publicly but discipline him privately behind closed doors either through a fine or a right, royal verbal boll0cking..... but in private.

If Mascha had one in deliberately to hurt someone with intent.... then I'd agree with you. But given the situation, intent and consequence, I would say that Rafa handled this well enough.

OK I'd go along with that but in that case in public he should just say no comment or be neutral on the subject. I'm actually fairly certain that Mascha will be getting one hell of a bollocking from Rafa behind closed doors.

Right first things first it wasn't a yellow card for masch in the first place
and second of all yes mascherano was giving steve benett abuse at every decision but that is only because the decisions he was giving was horrendous

Watch replays of the game Anderson did the exact same tackle on Gerrard
to that what Mascherano did on Scholes yet no booking for Anderson
The Manchester United players were kicking lumps out of Torres even when he didn't have the ball
have a look at how we won the free kick that led up to Mascherano's sending off
Torres does about 3 United players including Ferdinand at the start and then Ferdinand just quite clearly blocks him off
no booking?
oh no that would'nt be Steve Benett's way at all.....
Instead he books the one player who least deserves booking

he can hardly say it was dissent because Torres can hardly speak a word of English
Mascherano then jogs over from the centre circle to ask the referee why have you booked Torres?
Steve Bennett then sends him off for dissent?
The point i am making is because Steve Benett did nothing about the Cole incident on Wednesday
he had to make up for it and yes it might have been a little naive on Mascherano's part
but the fact remains that if Benett would'nt have made a :censored:

up like he did on Wednesday
then he would not need to make up for it.
Mascherano was made an example of for some poor fourth officialing on Wednesday
once again we are screwed by the cockneys

I just did not understand why S.Gerrard (as a captain!!!) did not talk or consult with S. Bennet about Mascherano's first booking, or even tried to clam Mascherano down!!!, He is the Captain and that is his duties!!, as for Benitez he has lost the plot not for this game but the whole season, he will never win the league for LFC, it is beyond him, let us just see how he deals with next four games!!!!!!

Liverpool star apologises to team mates!!

Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano has apologised for his sending off against Manchester United at the weekend but still can not understand why he saw the red card.

"I do not know why I was sent off," Mascherano told the Liverpool Echo.
"I asked the referee what was happening. I did not swear, I was not aggressive and I did not confront him.
"All I did was ask him what was happening, nothing else.
"So when he showed me the second yellow card and sent me off I could not believe it.
"I am sorry to my team-mates because that meant we went down to 10 men and that made things even more difficult for us."

LIVERPOOL (AFP) - Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez wants to meet with Premier League referees boss Keith Hackett following the controversial sending-off of Javier Mascherano at Old Trafford.

Mascherano was ordered off the field by Steve Bennett for showing dissent and Benitez, while accepting his player was wrong to argue with the official, fears an excessive example may be made of the Argentina midfielder following the launch of the FA's 'Respect' campaign.

This is designed to improve player behaviour towards officials at all levels. Although Benitez has no problem with the principle, he fears the FA may come under pressure to extend what would normally be a one-game ban to three.

The FA have yet to announce the extent of Mascherano's punishment and the way in which he had to be all but dragged off the field by the Liverpool coaching staff after being sent-off could be used as a justification for a more severe punishment.

Benitez also stressed on Tuesday how Mascherano was the first Liverpool player to be sent-off this season.

Both the Liverpool manager and Mascherano himself have since insisted that all the Argentinian was trying to do was ask why team-mate Fernando Torres, who was also booked, was not receiving greater protection from the referee having been fouled in a match Liverpool went on to lose 3-0.

"I would like to speak to Keith Hackett, because it is important that we find a solution," Benitez told Liverpool's official website.

"At Liverpool, we respect the game; we respect the rules and we respect the referee - and it is important to remember that Mascherano was the first Liverpool player to be sent off in the league this season."

Mascherano, if a one-game ban is imposed, will miss this Sunday's Merseyside derby against Everton.

But any extension, which could rule the player, currently in Egypt with the Argentina squad, out of the games with Arsenal and Blackburn. That would likely trigger a demand for a personal hearing by Liverpool which in itself would delay the imposition of a ban.

Liverpool are currently fourth in the table, just two points ahead of Everton - their closest challenges for the fourth and final English qualifying place for next season's Champions League.

The Football Association will tomorrow review television footage of Javier Mascherano’s controversial red card at Old Trafford and also study the report of referee Steve Bennett before deciding whether to charge the Liverpool midfielder.

Argentina international Mascherano was sent off for picking up two cautions during the Barclays Premier League game against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday – the second for dissent towards the match official.

Bennett’s report is understood to make a point of mentioning the time it took an angry Mascherano to leave the pitch.

A decision from the FA is expected tomorrow afternoon, which is likely to result in a charge and could lead to an extended ban for the player.

Earlier today, the FA heard the case of Watford’s John Eustace, who was sent off against Stoke on March 15 and subsequently charged with improper conduct for confronting the referee and failing to leave the field of play.

Eustace admitted the charge and was today handed a further one-match suspension as well as being fined £1,500.

As a neutral the Liverpool vs Man Utd game is one of the reasons I signed up to Sky Sports this season, having viewed via MOTD for decades.

I have watched a lot of games this season and despite being massiveley disapointed by the entertainment levels with the cream of europe I have also been amazed by the total lack of respect players show to match officials.

Some clubs are worse than others but without doubt the worst offenders are Chelsea (JT & Cole being the worst example for kids), Man Utd (Rio Ferdinand - Surely not England captaincy material & Rooney (petulent beyond belief) & Arsenal (most of the team).

The rest of the teams are reasonably ok with the odd amount of petulance creeping in here and there.

However, referees have also amazed me with some unbelievably poor performances. I'm not sure if it's too high pressure for a lot of them or maybe they've just been having an off season but common sense appears to have passed a lot of them by, as it has with a lot of people these days.

So Sundays game, what happened. An over pumped Mascherano, A referee out to make a name for himself, a manager (SAF) playing mind games very successfully pre match, a weak captain (Gerrard) and a massive bias towards Man.U by Mr Bennett.

Before people start accusing me of bias....I am Bristolian...born and bred and support the Gas.

I cannot fathom what the referee was thinking on Sunday...if he was going to enforce the dissent rule, it should have either been implemented immediately the first time Mascherano mouthed off to him or he should have called the (quiet) Liverpool captain to him and advised him to calm down his players. He did neither.

He then compounded his error by booking Torres after being on the receiving end to some pretty clumsy challenges. Weren't strikers supposed to be being protected these days? don't book them!!it seems if your're the away team at Old Trafford you're unlikely to get favourable decisions or protection. Just my interpretation from what i've seen on the old goggle box this season anyway.

Also why did he not enforce the dissent rule evenly to other players....I can recall Ferdinand...cough....and Rooney yelling obscenities in his direction.....and yet no action. I as a paying punter want to watch a fair competition.....it's not happening.

The top teams already have the best players, lets stop giving them a 12th man as well.

If a team gets a result at a ground like Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge it's quite a feat....trust me I've seen several games and what goes for the home team is totally different to how the away team is treated.....if I was the FA, I would be looking into whats going on there.....

That aside, I actually think this whole affair may improve the premier league, if this new unannounced initiative to book any player for talking to the ref is forcefully implemented things will eventually get better, although we may be watching 7vs8 for a while when some teams are involved.

As long as its not just enforced when a particular referee officiates or when its in favour of certain teams or maybe dare I say perhaps directed against certain nationalities!!

I'm very disallusioned by what I've seen this season and Sky will be cancelled when the contract expires.

I plan to buy a season ticket for the local non league team....low admission prices, english players from the home town, honest hard working players respecting the officials, no refs egos on display and no big shot managers running the league....it's the future....why not join me....leave the Premier League and it's over paid stars to rot in front of paltry crowds with their prima donna refs show boating their yellow and red cards like the over bearing head masters they are.

Ive seen quite a few posts on other sites including gamespot (computer games website !) from neutral supporters and about 90% of them agree that the referee was very biased towards united with regards to the way he officiated the game. Liverpool get a freekick and get a player booked and sent off ! only at old trafford could this happen. The only posts ive seen in defence of the ref are of course united supporters. Of all the players though on sunday who could have made a difference was mascha, I would love to say if only he kept his mouth shut and projected his aggression through his play but that of course would eventually have led to a red anyway. Very frustrating.

we get a freekick, and probably torres was asking why that manc idiot didnt get punished earlier, only for the ref to book torres for asking, then masch asks him also, then ref sends him off
