Owen could be gone by the end of today

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Fair enough Owen score 1 goal in every two matches, but his problem is that he never plays in more than 28 premiership games a season.

"From Michael's point of view, if he does harbour intentions of playing abroad and Madrid come in for him, I would expect him to go or otherwise he should just sign a lifetime contract at Anfield.

"If you turn Madrid down where do you go after that as they are the best in the world?"

Lawrenson helpful as always.

I tell you what. Michael will definitely not play tonight. That is not in his interests or Liverpools financial interests.

Another thing that gets me......... this is taking the attention away from how important this game is. The players are about to play a HUGE game.

Graz will be rubbing their hands together as the chances of an upset continue to increase. If we upset our Champions League chances Owen we be out of here.

Yep its a valid point. I agree he is flawed in that respect. I cant help thinking though if he gets an injury free season for us, Real or whoever that he could be devastating.

Whatever he decides, he has been a good player for the club. Remember that a player's career is short and Owen's main strength is his speed. He does not have the physical presence of someone like Shearer so when he does lose his speed for good as time goes by, he may not have the longevity like Shearer who can compensate in other ways.

I said it much earlier, and will repeat this. Michael Owen, if you think that moving to Real Madrid or Barca then you can go as it is your right to further your career. As a person I sincerely thank you for your services to your club, which you have done with distinction, it is just that I wished you had been at Liverpool during a more successful time.

However, as it is your right to further your career in any manner you think will help you achieve your objectives, it is Liverpool's right also to get its just financial return from your sale. Please don't do a Bosman on us, that is all.

The only puzzling thing is that Owen has not been at his very best lately and mostly last season. Madrid usually buys their "stars" when they had had a very good season or a very good tournament.

Is this genuine interest or is it just a shenanigan to cover up some other deal like what happened to MacManaman with Barca some years ago?

I really hope he stays but noboby is irreplacable we would survive it if he didn't. He should sign for 2 years more and give Rafa a chance and repay the club that made him what he is.  :)
