Correct mate, Albelda was a quality player, now he is past his best.

I have been watching him this season in La Liga, and he has been poor, especially against Barca.

I wasn't aware he was 30 years old. I'll shut up now

Liverpool close in on Czech defender

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is set to make a move for Fiorentina defender Tomas Ujfalusi in the January transfer window.

The Reds are short of defensive cover following injuries to centre-halves Sami Hyypia and Daniel Agger.

And Czech Republic international defender Ujfalusi could move to Anfield in a cut price £500,000 move, reports The Times.

The 29-year-old's contract with the Viola expires at the end of the season.

Albelda's game wasn't about speed never. I think it's the kind of player a la Hamman, that can play a lot of years because of that.

But you're right, having Mascherano and Alonso, it seems too much another defensive midfielder.

Anyway the Spanish tabloids have not echoed that possible move to Liverpool. The most serious offer that Albelda has on the table is Atletico's, he has a 3 year offer from them.

It's £17m including wages over the period of his contract. Not a £17m transfer fee.

How do you know this  ???  Hope it's true anyway, would be a major difference from paying 17 million up front.

Sorry to raise your hopes but I was wrong mate,it wasn't his agent  :(  was just an uncredited article on Satanta

Liverpool are eyeing a major double signing as Rafa Benitez looks to make Javier Mascherano and Ezequiel Garay permanent members of his squad.

Benitez is reported to have made a major breakthrough in his negotiations with MSI, the company that own Mascherano’s playing rights.

MSI, who also control Carlos Tevez's involvement with Manchester United, initially wanted a reported £17 million fee for the Argentinian ball-winner, who has enjoyed an impressive 11 months on Merseyside.

However, it is believed Liverpool have agreed for that £17 million fee to include the player’s wages over a five-year spell – beating off interest from Barcelona.

The news would please goalkeeper Jose Reina, who stated: “It is quite important because Mascherano has been one of our best players so far.

“It was a loan, a clever loan, and we have to take the next step which is to get him for a few years.”

Ok, thanks for finding the article Saint. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this whole saga continues. Hopefully by Masch staying one way or another.

Doesn't look like this deal is a goer according to this from $kysports.

$ky sports

Tomas Ujfalusi has rejected the chance to move to Liverpook in January, one of his agents has confirmed.

The Czech defender, currently with Fiorentina, is out of contract in the summer and a host of Europe's big hitters are poised to make him an offer.

Along with Liverpool, Tottenham, Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Zenit St Petersburg are all keen to take him on a free transfer when his deal ends in Florence.

Fiorentina want him to remain and have offered him a new three-year deal, whilst Liverpool - who have both Daniel Agger and Sami Hyypia sidelined - wanted to take him to Anfield early.

No deal

However, with a £500,000 deal believed to be in place with Fiorentina - Ujfalusi has informed all parties he will make a decision on his future when he is ready, but that is unlikely to be in January.

"I have to respect his decision, nevertheless it has surprised me a lot. Liverpool rarely give this offer twice to one player," Pavel Paska told CTK.

Fiorentina's sports director Pantaleo Corvino admits Ujfalusi will not be rushed.

"Ujfalusi has clearly and politely announced to us that the interests of the club will not be taken into consideration in the pondering of his future, that he will make a decision purely by himself," said Corvino.

"We have offered him a three-year contract. He is 29, so we could not do anything more."

Don't really know much about him but if he rejects us know I think his chance to sign for us will be gone. Come the summer we'll have a better idea of what there is to spend and I doubt Rafa will be wanting to hang around till then to find extra cover for the CB's.

from www.football-rumours.co.uk

"To all the rival fans out there hold onto your hats
Liverpool mean business. First signing Silva of Valencia Then a treble signing of Gabriel Heinze, Ezequal Garay and Kaka Kaladze, Queresma and up front non other than David Villa expect a lot of movement out including 5 internationals at least. He will then play his favoured 4–2–3–1"

Mean business...with no money?
