To tell the truth, it seems a bit unikely to me on balance.

As for the 12 mill' for Crouch, I believe that is probably what he is worth and I would take it. When I say it is what he is worth, this would of course be if he played regularly in which case I have absolutely no doubts whatsoever that his name would appear regularly on the scoresheet. For us though, Rafa obviously doesn't fancy him anymore, and given that and our financial position, there is no point whatsoever in us turning down twelve million quid. Hopefully a swift kick in Crouchies nuts by Rafa will convince the big man that his future lies elsewhere.

As for who we do sign if we offload Carson/Sissoko/Crouch or whoever, I really hope that we concentrate on bringing quality into the first team, and not more "options", "possibilities" and "potential". It really is reaching the stage (if indeed we aren't already past the stage) where we need a few top-quality players to kind of make friends with Gerrard and Torres. I'm by no means decrying the likes of Alonso, Carragher and Msherano, nor the "unseen" work which they apparently do, but in terms of match winning, game breaking players we are a bit thin on the ground compared to the other big teams.

I echo your thoughts completely BM. The last thing we wnat in January is to buy a few sqaud players on the cheep.

The main problem is the availability of players in January. If Rafa wants his top choice players he will no doubt have to wait until the end of the season.

I would love it if he pulled out all all of the stops to get Villa from Valencia, clearly not happy there. Price tag will surely be too much though.

absolutely nothing, which is worrying if he is to replace a player that has had Premiership anf even Internatinal sucess.

It would appear that we are still shopping in Aldi, despite our recent purchase from Harrods.. Torres! and that is a big problem...
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

hate using the phrase 'ditto' - but thats my thoughts aswell

we dont need or want more squad players, potentials, or part-time fillers like kromkamp or voronin. when we buy, we need top quality who will be a main-stay in our team.

i think everyone would be in agreement that we'd much rather have one 'top quality' striker to partner torres, than just a 'good' leftback, an ok centreback (for cover) and an good striker.

One piece of the puzzle at a time.... as long as its quality!

If there's any truth in this David Villa story it would be brilliant.  A team with him and Torres up front would be frightening.  Unfortunately it sounds like fantasy football stuff to me.  We'd need to pay at least what we paid for Torres if not more and I can't see the Yanks giving Rafa the money.  If you ask me they want out, until the club gets things sorted off the pitch I think we're in for a quiet time on the transfer front.

Valencia star David Silva has spoken of his unrest at the Spanish side which will alert those looking to recruit his services with Liverpool topping the list.

Silva made his breakthrough at the Mestalla last season with some stunning performances.

Things have since turned sour for the 21-year-old, who has fallen out with coach Ronald Koeman as Valencia slip to seventh in La Liga.

Rafael Benitez, the former manager of Valencia, made an unsuccessful inquiry about Silva last summer, but will be heartened by the latest comments from the striker.

“Everything has changed here and the whole atmosphere within the team is different,” Silva said . “England is a sensational country for football and Liverpool is a big team.”

The Spanish international signed a seven-year contract with the former Champions League finalists last June, but sporting director Miguel Angel Ruiz is reported to have given the green light for his departure.

sh!t source but hey its rumours

iverpool midfielder Momo Sissoko will NOT be leaving the club this January.

Italian side Juventus are believed to be keen on taking the youngster away from Anfield after the player admitted he is not happy with the lack of first team football at the club, however Sissoko's agent has revealed that the player will be staying with the Reds.

Sissoko's agent Jose Segui said: "Yes, he would like to play more, but he has three years left on his contract. Therefore the final decision rests with Liverpool.
"I have no news on contact with Juventus. Liverpool haven't said anything to me. I repeat, I am 100 per cent convinced he will stay with Liverpool."

Having been heavily linked with a move for Brazilian winger Mancini in the summer Liverpool are once again being touted as mulling over a move for the current AS Roma player. Speculation has mounted that Mancini is demanding a move after he failed to agree a new contract with the club and with the threat of one of their biggest assets leaving for free in 2009, Roma may decide to cash in on their player now rather than risk seeing him move for free in 18 months time.

Mancini has had a new offer on the table from Roma for sometime but has demanded a deal worth in the region of £2.4 million pounds a year, some £700,000 more than the wage ceiling at the club, which is set by undoubted star Totti.

Interest was shown in the player over the summer from both Inter and Liverpool in the player but Roma refused to sell despite reports of a training ground bust up between the Brazilian winger and club icon Totti and a frosty relationship between Mancini and his coach Spaletti, which is often visible if the player is substituted.

Despite most expecting Mancini to leave he remained at the club but has endured a frustrating season with injury interrupting, as well as poor form after the club drafted in Ludovic Giuly from Barcelona as a direct competitor for his wing position. So far the former Reggina and Atletico Mineiro star has managed 3 goals in 13 appearances in the league with another goal coming against Manchester United in the recent 1-1 draw between the two sides. This is considerably down on his output of 8 goals in 29 league appearances last season, as well as numerous assists and an impressive 12 in 27 in 2005/06.

However, the 27 year old is now desperate to move on from Rome after being the subject of some jeering from his own supporters as Roma have slipped off the blistering pace set by unbeaten Inter Milan, who thrashed Roma 1-4 in the league at the Olmpico earlier this season with Mancini having an especially poor game. So far both Liverpool and French Champions Lyon have been credited with an interest in the player.

Liverpool, in the summer, ended up signing Yossi Benayoun and terminating their interest in Mancini, however, if a deal could be agreed with Roma, which would see Mancini moving for a cut price fee with Roma’s hand being forced by the player’s intransigence regarding his new contract then Benitez could re-kindle his interest in Mancini.

Lyon have been looking for someone to fill the gap left by the departed Florent Malouda, who left in the summer for Chelsea, struggling to fill the vacuum. Mancini’s preferred position is cutting in from the left onto his right foot, a tactic highly favoured by Lyon, in their 4-3-3 formation, and he would be the ideal candidate for this. Whether Lyon could meet the wage demands is open to debate.

Inter were also heavily linked with Mancini in the summer and were thought to even have the first option on the player, were he to move on, as part of the deal that was thrashed out between the pair when David Pizarro moved from Inter south to Roma. However, Inter elected to move for Chivu instead, and Mancini remained in Rome. Nevertheless with news emerging that Inter were seeking a replacement for Figo, who is due to retire at the end of the season and were tracking Elano, from Manchester City. If they fail to secure Elano they may be tempted into a move for Mancini.

Roma are unwilling at this moment to consider a transfer of one of their star players, with manager Luciano Spaletti stating: “I won't change anything in the winter market. I don't like players to leave in January”

However, should the right offer be made Roma may yet be tempted into negotiations and Mancini could yet be on his way from the Italian capital either this winter or at the end of the season.

oh its just so simple, sell Riise, Momo, Carson, Crouch and Kuyt and get David Villa, David Silva, and Mancini  :D

For the record I would pull the trigger on that if it were possible.

According to a newspaper(record.pt) here in my country, Portugal, Quaresma is between Chelsea and Liverpool.

Translated online with google and by me:
Quaresma placed between Chelsea and Liverpool
Move is on the card again

The international press speaks again of the possibility of Ricardo Quaresma leave FC Porto at the end of the season, advancing that the Portuguese international will be between Chelsea and Liverpool.

The news also adds with statements of the business man Jorge Mendes, though not mentioning the names of the teams: "The Italian clubs have no money to hire. Presently there is a direct line between Portugal and England."

Liverpool Sign Young Winger

Ross County have confirmed that they have sold 16-year-old winger Alex Cooper to Liverpool for £100,000.

Cooper is the son of former Aberdeen great Neale Cooper who was a key member in Alex Ferguson's side which won the Cup Winners Cup against Real Madrid in 1983.

The Scottish U16 international is highly rated so much that Jose Mourinho took him on trial with the Chelsea first team during their pre-season training in Switzerland last year.

"It was always a question of when and not if Alex would get a move to a big club and I am delighted he has got his chance after doing so well for us," Ross County's Director of Football Goerge Adams told thisisnorthscotland.co.uk.

"He is a terrific young lad who comes from a great football family and he has worked really hard to get his move. He is a left-sided player who is quick and aggressive and the fact he was called up for Scotland under-17s while he was playing for a Second Division club shows his quality."

"The length of contract Liverpool have given Alex shows how highly they rate him."

Cooper is the second player to join Liverpool from Ross County after another prospect, Gary Mackay Steven, moved to Merseyside last summer in a deal worth £100,000 and the young Scot has been impressing in the academy side. Indeed, Adams said that "we have a tremendous relationship with Liverpool and it is great for the young players at Ross County to see what can be achieved with hard work and dedication."

"I also think it is a feather in the cap for us that while we are working towards getting out of the Second Division this season, we are still producing young players who are interesting some of the biggest clubs in the world."

Fiorentina ponder Liverpool bid
20071226 13:29
Fiorentina have been advised to make a move for Liverpool midfielder Mohammed Sissoko in the January transfer window.
Fiorentina's Director of Sports Pantaleo Corvino has been reviewing scouting reports on fresh talent like Rio Mavuba and experienced playmakers like Atletico Madrid's Maniche, but has been told to get Sissoko by top agent Franco Granello.

Granello, who represents Frank Lampard's interests in Italy, said: "A club like La Viola (Fiorentina) needs a player like Mohammed Sissoko, with the characteristics he brings to the field."
The Florence club may have already talked about the possibility of a swap deal for the Mali midfielder after Liverpool made contact with them about their Czech defender Tomas Ujfalusi, out of contract in June 2008.

Midfielder Danny Guthrie has revealed he is open to stay with Bolton Wanderers permanently if Liverpool decide so.

The 20-year-old is on a season’s loan at the Reebok Stadium and his energetic display has impressed Trotters boss Gary Megson as well as parent club, Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez, who hailed the youngster’s quality.

Megson has suggested he would want to keep the former Manchester United youth player but Benitez is yet to make a decision on Guthrie.

"I'm enjoying myself and long may that continue," Guthrie said.

"In the summer we'll sit down and see where we are. If Liverpool said they wanted me to go back and play then obviously I would do it.

"If that can't happen, then the first place I'd want to come to is Bolton."

Today another portuguese newspaper talks about a possible transfer.

INTEREST REIGNITES IN THE FINAL YEAR: England is the destination ...
Chelsea and Liverpool fighting for Quaresma

RICARDO QUARESMA, appears inevitable and unquestionable this 2007 who dismisses it is again, and always, the dragon highlighted in the universe cybernetic not fell asleep at Christmas. In an exhaustive compilation of information and news out yesterday from various international sites, some more reliable than others, the number 7 of FC Porto is now identified as the biggest target of Chelsea and Liverpool. For the time? Preferably, it says, but the two clubs don't care to wait another six months to steal from Dragão their most brilliant star.

The player's own business man, also increase media attention Jorge Mendes, taken in to matters. A French site reaches assign to staff the Portuguese authors of words which, if true, put the game out of the most prestigious Italian emblems of vibrant and alucinante race by hiring Ricardo Quaresma.

"Quaresma is expensive and there is no Italian club that can buy. Currently, there is a direct line between Portugal and England"- this is a declaration of intent allegedly signed by Jorge Mendes and conveyed yesterday by Morefoot.com.

True or false, that material is a perfect illustration of the scenario involving the future of Ricardo Quaresma, emerging Chelsea and Liverpool as the main and strongest candidate - they lack money and want a longer or another last summer lost in love for the Portuguese international, key player in the structure mounted by Jesualdo Ferreira, with the dependency syndrome of acute dragons to be made explicit in defeat, the only FC Porto in the League 07/08, suffered a few days ago, Madeira, facing the National.

My fortune is bigger than yours ...

Despite the high blueprints for SAD portista the start of the current campaign it expresses willingness to renew the contract, the salary increase considerably and give Quaresma functions of leadership in the resort, proportional to the status of football and the quality of higher end - , gained tremendous strength the idea that the 7 of the blue and white hardly accept extend the employment relationship, with valid only until 2009, directing is reportedly to port of exit.

Waiting to receive Ricardo Quaresma are also colossos like Real Madrid, which closed last paid almost 30 million euros by Pepe. But the fortunes of the Russian Abramovich, owner of Chelsea, and the Americans George Gillet and Tom Hicks, the new owners of Liverpool dissatisfied, they can help clean up with madrilistas.

Whatever will be the next club of Quaresma, it is guaranteed that the coffers of the dragons will return to fill it very briefly, leaving some doubts about whether the portistas will resist even in the next month, the harassment of English, postponing for next summer so goodbye to the huge reference of its football and its history today ...
