LIVERPOOL VS FULHAM (10/11/07) 5.15pm - Post match DOOM and GLOOM in here please

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

No arguments at all here. Fulham were never in it, everything they put in our box was snuffed out masterfully by Carra and Hyypia (who was flawless today, it must be said).

Reina was immaculate in the little he had to do. Aurelio and Riise did okay, even if they were a bit sloppy in possession. Arbeloa was fine, although he didn't really get involved in an attacking sense.

Mascherano snapped some good passes in, but was a bit sloppy at times, Gerrard was below par by his standards, but thankfully stopped taking the corners later on, and put his pen away masterfully. Benayoun was a bit disappointing after midweek, but still showed flashes of inspiration - he was unlucky with the floated effort from the left.

Voronin was probably my man of the match - really energetic performance, with tons of imagination in and around the box. Some really good use of the ball, and very, very unlucky not to score. Crouch again showed why he's a first 11 player. Hit the bar first half, but was a nuisance to their defence throughout, and his run led to the penalty.

Hats off to Torres though. I worried a bit that this game came a bit too soon for him coming back in, but he was incredibly lively when he came on, and he could have had a second. Babel too got involved straight away, and added energy to our attacking play.

All in all, absolutely no complaints. Yes, we'd like these goals to come earlier, but we utterly bossed the game, and even with a few players being slightly sloppy we got to the final whistle with the win.

Well done Rafa for giving the midweek 11 another chance, and good job all round to the lads out there.

One big minus for me was the crowd, who were dead for long spells today. What happened to the Anfield crowds that would keep the noise levels way up for 90 minutes, irrespective of what's going on in the game? Far too often the Fulham fans were making themselves heard.

4th, unbeaten, ahead of Chelsea, still fighting in the Champions League, 10 goals in 2 games, 0 conceded. That's not a bad week by any measure.  :buttrock

In hindsight, this was a massively important win for us. A draw and if the Mancs and Arsenal pick up 3 points in their games, then it's all over for us, that's how important I felt the win was today.

TORRES! TORRES! TORRES! TORRES! TORRES!

unbelieveable... out of nowhere he scored a goal... you can see his shot selection is a class above all our other strikers... he knows how to surprise the keeper... doesn't go for power but placing... kuyt, voronin, crouch all don't have this instinct...

don't really agree mate... we didn't make ourselves difficult... it was fulham... you gotta give them some credit they defended darn well... and they seemed to have planned to attack in the last 15-10 minutes when we start run out of ideas and getting discouraged... Torres' goal spoilt their plan...

as for us i thought it was a very promising attacking display only lacking in the quality of torres to break the deadlock... this match shows that both crouch and voronin are nowhere near torres' clinical finishing...

I am not going to say much, all the team did their bit, a well won game.
See what its like when we use the same team and then add a spark at the end.
well done lads

It's not as simple as "Torres can finish, and Crouch and Voronin can't".

Crouch and Voronin worked Fulham incredibly hard today, so much so that by the time Torres came on, their previously tight defence was suddenly a bit disorganised. Gaps appeared, and Torres (and Crouch, in getting the pen) profited.

What this game showed me is that, when fit, we do have the personnel to do some damage this season. Add Kewell to the guys we had on display today, and suddenly we have a very, very formidable squad. All too often the subs come on with half an hour to go, and the game just dies. With some of the impact players we have now, we can bring people on and look like scoring. Crouch showed that last week without quite making it happen, but look at the last half hour against Besiktas, and look at the last 20 mins today.

it's as simple as that mate... however you may want to look at it... crouch, voronin, kuyt's finishing is nowhere near torres'... on the other hand I know what you're talking about... :D

crouch played well today and was unlucky at the end of the first half and tired towards the end

torres great take down and finish, but santa sports gave him man of the match which isn't right

sami had a good game but seems to get slower every week

voronin wants to play the garcia role and never goes in front of crouch which is why fulham seemed to have us boxed in, until rafa changed it

it was a game we needed to win, and job done, but it seemed for a long time like last season, alot od chances but no end product

also great to hear danny murphy get his name sung ,a decent atmosphere all game prob due to a few more beers by 17 15 kick off
