I have it on good authority that Parry travelled to Madrid but went on the lash and turned up at the negotiations with a bottle of cheap mexican whiskey and singing 'if it was'nt for the english you'd be krauts'. He also lost the club chequebook and the 30 million tranfer kitty has been misappropriated. He also made pass at Torres and ended up punching his dad who is also his agent. Having said that, he is reasonably confident that Torres will be signed before the transfer window closes.

I think this has been Rafa's plan all along. He knew if we had bought Torres early on we would have been moaning cos we didn' get Eto'o or Villa, by waiting so long we are now that relieved to be buying someone at last ,that Torres looks like a great buy. :D

Sabre I think it was you who was saying the other day that you really don't rate Torres, is that right? I watch the odd Spanish game on Sky and he looks a good player to me, his attitude seems good and he can finish. Every signing these days is a gamble (Shevchenko looked a good buy and flopped and then Mccarthy was a punt and bangs em in for fun for the Rovers) but Torres is worth a go I think. I do bow to your superior knowledge of La Liga though Sabre, has Torres got what it takes?

He's a good player, but he's not a 25M pounds player.

My concern is that you lot will be dissapointed. He has the pace, the dribling and the skill, but he hasn't the finishing. And since in Liverpool the team won't work for him unlike in Atletico, I cannot be too optimistic.

If Bellamy did the role of the pacy striker, then with Torres we've won a lot in comparison.

But if you lot are expecting the striker that will score the goals that Kuyt the orange international, or Morientes the Spanish international hasn't scored, then I'm afraid you'll be dissapointed.

Torres :-

Passes better that Traore
Tackles harder than Smicer
Scores more than Maijer
Heads better than McManaman
Faster than Alonso
Works harder than Cisse

What are you worried about :D

Do you think there is room for him to add that (goalscoring) to his game Sabre?
He is young still and i can only hope that this is part of his game that can be improved.

Would you say he will fit in well with Rafa's work ethic or does he go missing from games? I have not really seen too much of him but his goalscoring record doesn't suggest a prolific striker, which is what you suggest!

Would it be fair to say though that the players around him here in Liverpool are of a much better quality than at Atletico Madrid and with that superior service he will do the job?

My suspicion is that this will be our biggest signing this summer and while it is a big name and could be the missing link upfront are we happy with the price and distinct possibility that this is it for the summer?

My feeling is that Torres could be very good for us, I really did feel that a top striker was an absolute must this summer and lo and behold he appears to have been delivered to us. I would like some more options out wide and a centre back to cover Agger and Carra but all in all I am pleased with this signing if it goes through.

Henry wasnt a prolific goalscorer when arsenal signed him and look how he turned out, ok its an exceptional case but players can change and adapt better to certain countries than others so lets just wait and see, altho he has to sign first before we can all slate him :D

and he is gonig to need a year to settle into the english style of play, as all imports do

berbetov would have been far better at that kind of money

i know you can judge people if you haven't seen them week in week out but i thought he was very ordinary at the world cup and sabre hasn't had much good to say about him since we have been linked to him

i was more excited at the signing of cissie and that didn't turn out well at all,we can only wait and see with this one but i reckon we will have to wait at least 1 season to see him tough enough to go to derby away and get the sh!t kicked out of him, and see that the diving which he is quite adept with is not part national thinking

and to be honest we still haven't got a player that is going to provide the balls torres will need to score alot of goals this season unless kewell stays fit and gerrard plays further up front

well, sabre seems to rate him as equal to our current strikers and iv heard a lot of people saying hes good but not great so there is a lot of room for pessimism
but im gonna be optimistic, lets just face it, this is an improvement from a few years back with diouf being our main signing and etc
at least torres won't spit on everyone :D

Curiously enough he has the reputation of working hard, but for me, when Atletico scored a 0-1 in a local stadium I saw things of Torres I didn't like. When the team was winning he didn't track back.

His reputation is due to that when they're down 3-0 he makes 3 or 4 runs pressing the defence, more showy than effective, but the teamwork ratio is better seen in normal games, and when the team is 0-1 up he forgets a bit about the team.

As for playing with better team mates, quite honestly, I don't think so. He had good players in atletico, not as good as here, but he was the target man and he wasn't asked to do a lot of job like Kuyt and Morientes were asked.

That said, if Kuyt does the tough job he's done until now and Torres is freed from this build up controls, then we'll have an extra danger with his pace, as he's better than Bellamy. But, as someone has said, I don't rate Torres better than Kuyt when it comes to score goals.

On the bright side, the Mancs won't get him!  ???

The thing is Sabre, this whole notion of a player being 'overpriced' is such a woolly concept, especially before the guy's even kicked a ball for us.

I still hear that Rooney is overpriced and overrated - same stuff with Torres. Yet both are great players, and United just won the league.

If Torres helps us win the league, or another Champions League, he'll be worth every penny. And at 23 he could serve us for four great years, and we could sell him for £30m if he's a success. This is not like paying £30m for Shevchenko knowing he'll be worth just £5m in two years at 32.
