LIVERPOOL VS ARSENAL - We owe these one

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

right, so here we are facing arsenal for the fourth time this season, having been totally and utterly humiliated by them three times already, conceding twelve goals in the process. we haven't scored in the last three in all competitions so a win here's going to be vital, especially in the race for third place. lose it and we're virtually condemned to fourth.

it'll be interesting to see what team rafa picks with the PSV game coming up on tuesday. personally, i think pennant's been one of our better performers recently and i'd also be tempted to give fowler a start. whatever anyone says, he's still our best finisher by a country mile.

also, has anyone heard if crouch is back?

they've got a lot of injuries, especially upfront. they've been playing baptista and alliadiere recently and lost against the bluesh#te last time out.

i'd take a scrappy 1-0 win now.

I'm convinced we're going to do them for some reason on Saturday.  I'm always confident though, I never think we're going to lose.  It's always a shock to me when we actually do though...

Although we've been beaten this season quite a few times, I do think that Arsenal are the only team who've 'defeated' us.  We never looked like beating them in any of the three games we've played against them so far this season.  Time to make amends.  I think we'll beat them.

One-nil to the Reds with a cheeky late second half winner from Stevie Gerrard.

I agree. They have quite a few key players out and we should pound them at home comfortably. Whether we will is a different story.

My team to play again Arsenal:

Reina

Finnan
Carraagher
Agger
Riise

Gerrard
Alonso
Pennant
Gonzalez

Kuyt
Bellamy

I would love to see hard work, short simple passes and posession football. With this we can win the game.

I prefer to leave Sissoko out because even though he is immense in breaking play up, his passing is pi*s bull fu*king sh*t.

I hate to re-open old wounds jonny but we were well and truely defeated by United earlier this season :no

Hopefully Stevie keeps his scoring boots on from last night and knocks in a one or two(from central midfield).

im glad someone else took up the initiative and started the match thread for Arsenal this time round.

I have to be honest and say, i fully expect a different outcome this time compared to the two cup encounters. Which, although far from digestible results...and somewhat experimental in their consideration. Id have thought Rafa to take things far, far more seriously come saturday dinner.

This is a massive (arent they all) game. In terms of who will cement the qualifying places for next years CL. and while it doesnt actually matter that much whether you are 3rd or 4th. What does, is the morale boost that 3 points from this fixture (at the very least, a draw) would bring to the squad after the disappointments suffered at the hands of a 'dubiously' laid out strategy in the cups.

It will be tight...but its within the grasp of these players to rise to the occasion. Which, iam optimistic they will do....just.

Crouch may well be a welcome addition to the chances of that transpiring. Lets hope so.

From what I have heard Peter Crouch is available for this game after his nose operation. Rafa was in the Echo last week saying how this was the game were Peter can come back and do a job for the team. Its just mind games by Rafa though. He is definetly going to play Crouch here, but it gives him an excuse to bench him for the PSV game.

tbh (and despite what i would have expected to say) i think we are missing PC big time. Kuyt, for all his industry and willing, just hasnt had (been allowed to?) the influence in the right areas of the pitch. Crouch acts like a kind of 'glue' that links the midfield/attack very effectively. In some ways this is what im expecting from Voronin, when he arrives.

But Kuyt for me, should be utilised higher up the park were he can translate that hard work into tangible results.

My apologies.  Yes, we were, but I put that period of the season away locked in a box in my mind.   Even Everton beat us, but we battered them, yet somehow they won 3-0.  We weren't getting results but we weren't getting battered by anyone, but yes, you're right, against Man United, we stank Old Trafford out.

Massive game this a proper six pointer....If we play the way we can we will win,i just hope the team turns up and we dont get another performance like we did at Villa.

Im sure we will be better than that cause we are at home. The players will surely see the importance of this game and give it 110%...loose and its almost definately 4th,that can't happen!

As for revenge, well the 2 defeats by Arsenal hurt but are also history now.....2-0 to us me thinks...or hopes!

Tough, tough match.

They're the only team in the Premiership that actually look a cut above us, and that's simply because they have a team PACKED with pace and good passers.

We need to remain focused, and Mr Riise needs to give his head a good shake before we KO, as he will not get away with day dreaming 50 yards up field.

Thing is - I doubt we will field our first-choice 11...

Arsenal are now where we were about a month ago, expect worse. We were knocked out of 2 cups and had no hope of chasing for the title. Arsenal are out of 3 cups and no hope of chasing the title.

beware of the wounded bear.

Now the PL is the only stage left for Arsenal to perform in this season. And concerning the 3rd place struggle, they will go all out to play us. It could be a very tough game.
For such a game, 1-0 LFC win would be satisfying to me. Hope our forwards will score, though. Otherwise, our captain definitely will. :D
