Has traore been value for money?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

With Djimi being linked with Charlton and Bolton for as little as 1M, it got me wondering whether the £500,000 that Houllier spent on him can be seen as being value for money or not. On the one hand we've had those last ditch tackles and his goal mouth clearance in the CL final, but on the other there has been awful positioning and that diabolical own goal against Burnley.

Personally, for the right club he could do a very good job. He was not good for my nervous system at times but he was most certainly worth the 500,000 outlay.

He has gave us good service (7 years would you believe) and can be sold at a profit so he was worth it.

So overall do you think he's been worth it or worthless?

a player who is average at best.  Although i don't think he's good enough, he has been useful (especially last season) in covering injuries.  The only thing that has surprised me is, why did Rafa extend his contract?

well, it cant be said the lad hasnt entertained us! there does though seem little sense in him staying, if we are serious title contenders, then that could not happen with traore in the squad. either by playing(and thereby causing total panic) or sat collecting a wage and taking up a valuable place. sorry djimi, but thanks for the memories....all the best.

The leaving of Djimi (isnt that a film or something ?) is tinged with sadness for me.

I watched him for many years in the ressies, and really thought he could be the man to step up to the mantle and be our next powerhouse rock at centre half.

He had all the attributes as a lad, pace, good tackler, good engine, great spring and big heart. In my opinion (at the time) all he needed was to grow into his body a bit, fill out and mature in terms of tactical and positional awareness.

Sadly, Djimi's second touch is a tackle, and he looks nervous and clumsy. He never fulfilled his potential.

Good Luck Djimi mate, thanks for the good times.

If it weren't for his inconsistency i'd be agrieved we were selling him. He always was useful at times and had decided strengths in the areas of tacking crosses. But all in all I think Liverpool Football Club was a standard too far for him.

Maybe a club that is used to conceding goals will appreciate him more

Jeez ! has it been seven years already ?  :wwww

Has he been worth it ?  Well he didn't cost much but i'm not sure how much he was getting in wages so it's a bit hard to say money wise whether he was worth it or not .

Football wise I don't believe he's been worth a place at LFC . I'm not forgetting the games where he did fairly well but overall most premiership defenders would have done just as well if not better .

Good luck to him, he was worth the 500k. He was a tremendous athlete who made great saving tackles but sadly half the time he made the tackle due to a mistake. His concentration levels and poor distribution aswell as his positioning meant that he just wasnt good enough for us, sometimes though, i reckon he could sense the crowd were nervous when he had the ball and this probably put him on edge a bit more a la benfica at home. I always felt that they could nick a goal with him at the back and you could tell it was nervy every time they counter-attacked.

Hes a good professional though and i reckon he can be a success at a club like bolton or charlton. Hes got a champions league medal around his neck and not many can say that.

He hasn't been good for the state of me ol heart... that's for certain.

But he did give his all everytime he was in the Red shirt... and that I really value.

You can learn skills, tactics, positioning, techniques but you just can't teach attitude and heart and Djimi has plenty of both... If he does go, I for one will not begrudge him the salary he has drawn. He definitely earned it.

Sad to say, he just wasn't good nuff for the mighty reds....

we can't even GIVE Diao away...i can't see us selling him.  If we're lucky, we'll get another loan for him and have someone pay his wages for the last year of his contract.

"Charlton have signed Liverpool full-back Djimi Traore £600,000 today.

A move for Traore, 26, was always on the cards this summer as Reds manager Rafael Benitez continues bringing defensive reinforcements to the club."
