Everyone has that defining moment in their life when they are proud to be able to say " I Was There".

Whether saying it to impress a lady, relive memories to your children or :censored:

up in the pub, everyone has their memories. As a supporter of Liverpool Football Club, this club has provided me and all you with so many wonderful memories. I did not have the pleasure of growing up in the Shankly era, nor did I remember much of "Sir" Bob. The "Glory Days" were just before my time, however this wonderful club has still provided me with memories that will last a life time.

The F.A Cup Final in the treble season, , the F.A Cup Final this year and also the best match there has even been, Istanbul.These are obviously the major highlights in the matches I have attended.

Istanbul will forever be my favourite match I have been to.

However the Semi Final victory over Chelsea in the Champions League holds a special place in my heart. the atmosphere that night was electric, I have never seen Anfield like that and I don't think I ever will again, that night showed me why we are different from the rest, what it means to support the red men. There will never be another night like it....

So I am just asking whats the best match you have ever been to? And why? As with most I expect it to be Istanbul so, maybe except that wonderful night in May!!!

Unfortunately I havent had much luck with Liverpool in cup finals. FA cup final against Man utd we lost, EUFA cup final was washed out after 20mins, and I couldnt go the following night when we won. The only final I have been to and seen Liverpool win was European Cup Final at Wembley which was hardly a classic match. I suppose beating spurs 7-0 was as good a memory as any I am sure Ardiles AND Villa will remember their first visit to Anfield. The last goal Terry Macs' was worth remembering anyway. if it had been on match of the day they would still be showing it yet. Clemence threw ball out to Johnson who passed it out to Heighway who crossed first time to TerryMac who headed it home. Simple but fantastic to watch and I was there.

I don't think i will be bragging 'i was there' to anyone.

In only ten games i have been too, I have never seen a win. 2 losses, 8 draws.

The one for me that was the biggest event was the opening game in Euro '96. England drew with the Swiss, who surprisingly actually managed to score a goal.

In the context of this season, I saw Robbie Fowler's first goal on his return to Liverpool, and he celebrated right in front of me which was good of him

I was there when we drew 3-3 with Southampton. And Westerveld went to kick the ball and completely mis kicked it. That was hilarious. Owen scored a few that day though.

I was in the foyer of the Lido du Paris,with about 6/7 other Reds fans in 1981,when the Liverpool team emerged from the show with "Old Big Ears" in tow.We spent the next 20/30 minutes with the players and the trophy...it was a dream come true to cap a fantastic occassion.

I reckon the opening game of one of only two international football tournaments ever to be staged in my country is a significant event. It would have been more significant if we'd have won it, but that's how the cookie crumbles.

Your camp comments hurt like a dagger through my heart. I can't express how upset I am that I've disappointed you. The thought that I've made you lose all hope is just too much to take. Being in the Kop the last game before the terracing was taken away. The game itself wasn't the best and we were poor losing 1-0 to Norwich.
But the atmosphere was unbelievable and a day i will never forget.
The noise when Kenny came on the pitch at the start of the match was the loudest i can ever remember and its making the hairs on the back of my neck stand up just thinking about it now.

I mean that in the last five to six years I have been to Dortmund, Istanbul, Cardiff a few times, Monaco and Anfield on some amazing European nights and you are on here trying to tell me that the sunny afternoon that you spent in a bombed out pi.ss stinking stadium with a load of southern shandy supping ponces with no ambition for their home town teams singing commercialised remakes of old old old cra.ppy songs was what your going to tell your kids about AND you claim to be a Liverpool fan.

This, this is why I despair !

So you're suggesting I should tell my kids about YOUR experiences, as they're so much better than mine? The thread is about relating personal experiences. My best experience was probably supporting England in a major international event, that doesn't actually mean that I can't call myself a Liverpool fan.

I was a Liverpool fan before you were born Leon, but if it makes you happy to go on a forum and boast about how you're a better Liverpool fan than someone else, go ahead. It doesn't make any difference to me one way or another.

Maybe you read it wrong, but I meant that if I have been lucky enough to witness all those amazing games, and experienced those atmospheres then surely as a red who has been "going the game since before I was born" (which for the record co-incided with our first European Cup win) YOU must have more to tell your son than "I went to an England game in 1996 at Wembley and it stunk of rat pi.ss" ?

Tokyo 1981 .
Toyota Cup (world club cup) Liverpool v Flamengo .

Was kickin' around South East Asia at the time so made the relatively easy hop over to Japan . Flamengo gave a tired looking Liverpool a 3-0 pasting

.
On the bright side ,the beatles were still big in Japan and scouse football fans were a novelty , I managed to sh'ag my sorrows away with a bevy of Japanese ninja sex machines
