Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Some of the comments on this site this morning have been nothing short of despicable.

Here's a video of his leg breaking. Looks innocuous enough until they show a replay from behind.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5LFqJOj03k&search=Cisse%20leg

If you seriously can look at that footage and feel hatred for the guy, then I seriously think you should have your head looked at. It's the kind of thing that could happen to anybody, and I don't think his previous leg break (which as others have pointed out was the other leg) had anything to do with it. He's not excessively susceptible to leg breaks, he's just incredibly unlucky that his leg has broken on the day that Marseille came over to talk to Rick Parry about buying him.

On the subject of the injury, France's coach came out last night and reported that it was an open fracture to the tibia. This means that the bone pierced through the skin (it's otherwise known as a compound fracture). These are particularly unpleasant breaks, as the risk of infection is greatly increased, and it can sometimes point to a non-clean break of the bone.

That said, so long as there aren't multiple fractures or complications, and even if pins or plates are required, the average healing time for the bone is 6-8 weeks. There'll be added recovery time needed to reintroduce him to jogging and running, as the newly healed bone will need time to adjust to the pressures that sprinting will place on it, but all being well he could (note: could, not will) be ready to kick a ball in time for next season. The fact that his previous break healed way ahead of time is an encouraging pointer.

CISSE LATEST: INJURY FINALLY DIAGNOSED
Paul Rogers 08 June 2006

It has been confirmed this morning that Djibril Cisse will definitely miss the World Cup in Germany after the horrific injury he suffered on Wednesday night against China was diagnosed as a fracture of his right fibula and shinbone.
France went on to win their final friendly before the start of the tournament 3-1 but the match was totally overshadowed by the loss of the Liverpool striker just 10 minutes into the match in Saint-Etienne.

"He is in hospital and he's undergoing surgery," Raymond Domenech, the French coach, revealed after the game. "It's a vicious blow to all of us. Everything was going so well. All the players are depressed. Even during the game you could see it. They just lost interest in the game."

Domemech's view was echoed by Arsenal Thierry Henry, who claimed: "I was just beside him when he fell and I heard him yell. Losing a team-mate and a friend like that just before a World Cup, it's really tough."

Cisse was hurt in a clash with China captain Zheng Zhi, who today insisted he was well within his rights to make the tackle that ended the Liverpool striker's World Cup dream.

"I was taking advantage of my position and engaged with him bodily but I didn't expect Cisse to be injured after he fell to the ground," claimed Zheng. "Football matches are just like this. Every professional player could be injured on the pitch."

For France, the issue of who to select to replace Cisse in the squad before they fly out to Germany will now take priority, with former Liverpool loan striker Nicolas Anelka in the frame.

"The rule is that we can replace an injured player until a day before the first match," said Domenech. "For the moment I have other worries. Then we'll think about it and talk about it between us. Djibril's injury is the only thing that's worrying us right now. It's a drama."

best of wishes cisse.

Good Luck and Get Well Soon .....
:(

Could you be any more full of sh!t and blind with your support of Cisse ?

The challenge on him was not bad he just landed awkwardly it was a friendly and the chinese are hardly renowned for being dirty players, plus i think they would go for Henry if they were going to target a player.
Utter b@llocks you come out with.

I feel sorry for Cisse, its terrible luck just before a major tournament and to break different legs in such a short space of time, through relatively innocuous challenges must be sickening for the lad.
He has had a decent end to the season goals wise and with a half decent world cup he could of secured himself a move as he is obviously not in Rafa's plans.
I dont think any fan who thinks of the impact its going to have on our upcoming transfers is being unreasonable, some could put there view accross better but we are all hoping that this summer we can sign the top striker we need, this could affect our budget badly and halt our progress, thats not Cisse's fault and obviously we are all gutted for Cisse as a person and not just the player. But we are as LFC fans entitled to worry about the bigger picture.

Some comment's here are f*king ludicrous, like him or not, he's still a Liverpool player and you should be supporting him until otherwise.

I can't believe how unlucky Djibril is, that was almost a carbon copy of his first break, even down to the point that the opposing player didn't have much to do with it. Hopefully he recovers quickly like he did last year, good luck Cisse.

Sh!t man. Look carefully..the leg broke in a 45 angle degree. It looks just as bad as the one he had before. Damn unlucky wtf. Sympathies to him...really.

No one's come out to say how long he's expected to be out?

I would say till Dec....physically.

But he might probably never have the courage to play again. Or play as well as he did before.

Who is not supporting him ?

As most have said its a sickening blow for him and as it happened not so long ago our thoughts are with him.

Btw the leg break last time was FAR worse, both bones were broken last time tibia and fibula this time it is one, obviously still not good, but there shouldnt be need for pins and he shouldnt be out anywhere near as long.
It is also not career threatening.

We are all bothered about Cisse but if you are not thinking about how it will affect the club as well as the player then you have your head in the clouds.

Gutted for Cisse, but also gutted for Rafa,

RAFA BENITEZ today admitted Djibril Cisse's latest horrific injury will impact on his summer spending plans.

The Liverpool manager was banking on raising as much as £8m from the sale of Cisse to Marseille or Lyon, with talks reaching an advanced stage just hours before the striker suffered a broken leg in France's last warm-up game.

Cisse suffered a break of the tibia and fibula, ruling him out until at least Christmas, and ending the possibility of an imminent sale.

While Benitez has sympathy for the 25-year-old, from a business perspective the injury has serious repercussions.

Hopes of raising capital to launch bids for certain targets depended on the early sale of players such as Cisse.

Now Benitez must re-assess his options, and may even have to re-consider the futures of other saleable assets to ensure he's not frustrated with his summer re-building plans.

"There are two issues here," said Benitez.

"Firstly, from the players point of view I'm really sorry for Djibril. That's important. It's really unfortunate for him. But it's true it's now impossible for him to be sold.

"We were expecting to sell him to Marseille or Lyon and planned using the money for other players. We were talking to both clubs. Now we won't have this money. We won't expect him to play again until November or December."

However, Benitez insists there will be no problem for manager and player working together next season, despite it being made clear Cisse was being sold.

"It was a professional decision and we were honest with Djibril. There will be no problem when he comes back," added Benitez.

Seville's Daniel Alves - who Benitez hopes to sign imminently - and Feyenoord's Dirk Kuyt are Benitez's prime targets, with another striker, likely to be either Darren Bent or Craig Bellamy, also in the manager's sights.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-----
If this is going to affect our spending plans so much then you have to think how much money was actually going to be provided to Rafa in the first place. If this does affect us seriously then I cant see us splashing out on any players like Joaquin, Alves or Kuyt.

Instead it will probabaly be Pennant and Bellamy or Anelka.

Rafa may have to juggle tranfers and could even sell someone he didnt expect to sell just to raise funds like Garcia.

I thought that Parry was going to give Rafa around 20-25 Mil to spend when all the Real Madrid talk was in the air but judging from these comments it seems like we may have to settle for cheaper players once again.

Perhaps once he has healed some teams may still be willing to sign him but i cant see that fee being more than 4M

some comments on here are f*cking despicable.

here is a man who was seconds from losing his leg, not certain if he would play again and then astounded me that he even could kick a ball again in such a short space of time. he wanted to come back.

ok so he has an attitude and is not the right player for our club but lets look at a few things, he scored a penalty in istanbul, he scored in the FA cup final, he was cheered by everyone on this forum even though there were allegations of abuse in his private life, for a short peiod of time in istanbul and in cardiff every one of us would gladly have had his babies.

yes we are all concerned about the loss in transfer revenue, but come on, lets be more concerned about one of our own. he has another horrific injury that should not be wished on anyone.

support the guy, i cant think of another player who has had this bad luck (with breaks, obviously im not including Foe etc in this). He is a liverpool player and lets treat him as such no matter how much you want him to leave

well if cisse is back in november it all depends if he plays till Jan.  if he doesnt play and just sits on the bench nobody is gonna spend more than £5m.

like you said bavlondon.  looks like Rafa has a very tight budget.

I would mirror peewee's comments here. Some of the comments about Cisse are very harsh. He has sustained a career threatening injury yet some of OUR fans (the club heb plays for) are more interested in the money we have lost.

YES, Cisse was to be sold giving Rafa cash to spend but I think as supporter the livelihood of our players is more important. I hope it does not impact on what we can/can't spend but if it does we trust Rafa/Parry and the players and get on with it! At the same time we support Cisse through this horrible time.

So lads who are condemning the fans that are worried about the implication this has on the club, when is it acceptable to worry about how this will affect the club and Rafa's rebuilding ?

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has sent a message of support to stricken striker Djibril Cisse.

Cisse's World Cup dreams were left in tatters on Wednesday evening when he suffered a serious leg break in a friendly with China.

It is the second leg break Cisse has suffered during his Liverpool career and Gerrard admits it is a major blow for the French star.

"Obviously me, Jamie (Carragher), Peter (Crouch) and Scott (Carson) send our regards," Gerrard said on Sky Sports News.

"We know how hard he worked to get back from his first leg break.

"It is a really frustrating injury for him to break his leg again and we send our regards as it is a really sad time for him."

Cisse has been strongly linked with a summer move to Marseille, but all plans for the forward are on hold following his latest setback.
