I think fans were fickle, they hated him Carling Cup final, CL Final, and then he produces the goods for 10-15 games and we love him agin.  He is a crock and we should get rid while he is still going.  He is like an old car.

I'd like to see how far people agree with me, that despite some good performances, he isn't what we want.

He picked up man of the match for us against Chelsea didn't he??? I'd say he's what we want. When Kewell has the ball down the left flank there is ALWAYS a sense of anticipation.

Maybe now, I do get a smaller idea as to why Zenden was brought to Anfield.

Zenden is obviously a squad player.

In my opinion, Kewell would still be the first choice left winger next season. Now, in the very likely event that Kewell would get injured, Gonzalez would obviously take his role. This is where Zenden comes in. He would probably be the last cover we have for left midfield, barring instances where Rafa would choose to push Riise further upfield and let Traore or Warnock handle left-back. Zenden could also play in central midfield which gives us ample cover in those areas. The sense in having Zenden in the squad is to ensure that the squad would not be in too much trouble if we encounter an injury-crisis, or a less than desirable number of suspensions. (It happens..)

The more I think of it, we seem to already have a more than capable bench who can make a sound impact during a game.

Hamman, Zenden, Dudek, Garcia, Cisse, Crouch, Fowler, Kromkamp and I'm sure that there are a couple of names I'm missing.

Having said that, I'll echo another point that has been thrown around a billion times in this forum.

Just a striker and a winger Rafa.

Just a striker and a winger.

Against Chelsea, Kewell showed the has SOME ability on the right hand side as a winger. Gonzalez by all accounts is brilliant on the left so I think Kewell has a decent future at the club.

rafa wouldn't have even the tiniest difficulty (including in terms of assumably proper price) to sell him,  many clubs would want him. you don't need to hang up phone to sell him, just shout it through the sky and dozens of clubs will keep you busy at the phone. but what is the fookin point in selling him especially when some times back we had been whinging in needs of decent winger. and now we have him already safely in our hands and some posters talking about selling him?

it's a bloody madness!

Yes, it is!! Please tell me where you have advanced in english THAT fast! :D

No honestly, I wouldn't sell Zenden, as I've already said, because we must have to quality players per place. And I also think we compare players a bit too much. I mean how can we possibly say Riise is better than Kewell or viceversa?, they just provide different things to the team, and Rafa will use them depending on the match. With Kewell and Gonzalez we will have the left wing covered with players of different features, and if that's not enough, we also have Riise in that position for some games we might need to secure that wing. That only leaves Zenden without a place in the team, IMHO. :)

There might alway's be anticipation, but for me yet there isnt ALWAYS end product.

Just for the record though I'd like to see him here for at least another season, simply because he has just picked up form. I'd like to see though if he can carry on his good form after the WC.

Kewell has been awesome this season, he isnt going anywhere. Rafa wouldnt put this much time and trust in him just to sell him on.

Like a lot of folks here, I was Harry Kewell's worst critic when he wasnt performing in the last few seasons, and I dont put it all down to injurys, but this season he has been class.

On a slighlty off topic, I've a feeling that Rafa will keep Morientes for another season, we know the guy is pure class, maybe he needs what ever Rafa did with Kewell.

(have got a bet on for the FA cup, 4-1 to us..come on :buttrock

This season Kewell proved that if he is fit he is one of the most influential players on the pitch. Fitness was always the key. I mean your never going to set the world alight when your a bloater!

I'll go as far as saying that Harry will have a great world cup and come back an even better player than we've seen this season

Give Kewell a break, He's starting to find his feet again, hopefully the Liverpool medical staff will work on him before and after the World Cup so that he can be fit for the new season

KEWELL played angainst pompey, no report on any after-effects so he should be OK.
There is no way Rafa will sell him now just the media stirring it up cos he got injured.
Besides he has been one of our 3 best players since christmas (world champ final, he tore the brazilians to bits) only crouch and gerrard have equalled him since then so it would take £15M plus to get the Gaffer to sell him.

If you started this thread last year I would've agreed 110%. Personally  I thought Rafa should've sold him last summer, but he didn't, and now I'm starting to see why. Behind Gerrard & Carra, I think Kewell's been right up there as on of our best players of the season. His injuries seem to be behind him now, and I still think the best is to come.

on his day, Kewell is one of the best wingers in the country.  Against Manure, he kicked that gobsheet Neville up the :censored: and had him in his pocket for te whole match.  He done the game at chelski with Geremi.  Kewell has come so far now.  He gets in to tackles and isn't afriad to take ride them in return.  Why on earth would we sell him now?

I think everyone has answered your question Mark23.
Do you have any more bright ideas? Perhaps you want to offload Gerrard?
