just heard Kewell is fit for today's game and should be 100% fit for the final.   :buttrock

I can't see Rafa selling Harry Kewell. Rafa mentionned before that when he was still coaching Valencia, he attented a Leeds v/s Man U game and was impressed by Mr Kewell and liked his style of play. The faith shown in the aussie by Mr Benitez has paid off and we are finally seeing the real Harry Kewell.

Although Kewell has played well of late, getting our money back and brining in Gonzales (awesome) is not bad business.

He's worth more than 4m though clearly, we don't know if Gonzales is better than him yet.

I do mate. If you wanna find out just look at any clips of the lad. And watch a re-run of the Sociedad Madrid game. he ran the show.

I'm just raising a point, how long till he gets another big injury.  I'm not doubting his ability or even the way he has played, I just think it is realistic that he might be going.

We need at least 2 class players per each position, to challenge each other and the title next season. Both Gonzo and Kewell are class.

I don't think 'getting our money back' for Kewell and bringing in Gonzalez to replace him is good business at all to be honest.  For a start if we got 4 million for Kewell - just short of the 5 mil we paid for him - that doesn't take into account the 60 grand a week the club pays him (9 million over the 3 years he's been here).  So in total we've paid 14 million for Kewell's services so far, and selling him for 4-5 mil represents good business??  I doubt it.  Especially when he is now in a position fitness-wise to start justifying a lot of the financial outlay for him.

Just a note on Gonzalez - he looks top class, quite possibly better than Kewell and the Sociedad-Madrid game is the best example as others have pointed out.  But imo we need both of them next season if we seriously want to challenge for the premiership.  And I don't expect Gonzalez to be amazing straight away, the Premiership is very different to the leagues he's played in so far.  Hopefully the fact he's a high-tempo player will allow him to adapt more quickly to the faster EPL then other imports.

The rumors are only surfacing becasue he is playing good now. Rafa likes to have more than one choice if he can in a position and in the left he will have 2 good choices between Kewell and Gonza;ez. I doubt he would want to sell Harry as hes always showed faith in him. If we sold him we would still have Riise but Harry has showed in certain games this season that he can run the left wing. If he had stayed on against Chelsea in the semi final we im sure he would have created more chances and we perhaps would have scored more goals such was his influence in the game that season.

However it is Valencia in question and im sure there are a number of player Rafa would be temjpt3d to try and lure to Anfield such as Aimar or Vicente (who would be a straight swap for LM). Only time will tell but if we sold him i think it would be after the World Cup where hopefully his price tag will rise a bit to what it once was.

4M would be an unacceptable offer for Kewell in my opinion. While I do think he must not be the first option for the left wing, I definitely keep him in the squad. We are playing many competitions nowadays, and just one quality player per place, isn't enough. We need him.

just think its the sunday papers with nothing better to do deciding to pick on harry b/c we have a replacement coming in -  harry is so versatile to us and now that he is recovering his fitness is i think a key member of the first team with or without mark gonzales who looks pretty good himself too

everything rafa has said recently about harry suggests he's looking forward to getting even more out of him and more consistently next year, all that after hopefully a good world cup for him too. Go on harry, score a hat-trick today and put and end to the doubters

Premiership and La Liga are TWO totally different leagues !!  Leon I'm surprised at you seeing as you've championed this ideology in the past.  To be totally fair Gonzalez does look great, but we still need to keep things in perspective and be cautiously optimistic about his ability to be successful here in England, and until he proves his worth I would have Kewell STAYING and starting over Gonzo

Spot on.

Gonzales hasn't even kicked a ball over here yet and we're talking about shipping out Kewell, one of our best players since Christmas?  Come on!

First of all, even if Gonzales beds in right away and shows the form that he has shown in La Liga, we still need to have a deep squad to compete with Chelsea.

Second of all, Kewell is performing very, very well for us at the moment and will be fighting to keep his spot.  Kewell was arguably our best player against Pompey today: he won the key header that led to Robbie's opener and he put Cisse through to set up Crouchy's winner.  And did you see him battling at the edge of our box after Pompey scored?  He worked hard for the team today, just as he has all season.

Yes, people were annoyed with Kewell last season, questioning his commitment but I think he's laid all of those questions to rest.  The lad's a key member of the team and will continue to be even with Gonzo arriving.
