Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I'll trust Pako Ayesteran to whip Ronaldo up to shape.

If he comes in, he has to shape up or ship out! :p

If Rafa doesn't sign at least 1 top-drawer striker in the summer (or at least try to), then he is a prat.

I'd like to see a team lining up thus:

                                           Reina

        Finnan                    JC            Agger/Sami          Aurellio

                                          Sissoko
Joaquin                                                                   Gonzalez
                              Alonso
                                                     Gerrard

                                          Villa.

Or, THIS would f*cking HAMMER every team in the Prem EASILY:

                                         Reina

                            JC          Sami       Agger

                         Alonso              Gerrard
Joaquin                                                                  Gonzalez

                                      Aimar

                            Villa               Kuijt.

This would mean dropping Finnan, which isn't going to happen!

The problem with getting a right winger in is this:

Who are we going to drop? Not Xabi, Stevie, Momo or Kewell/Gonzalez.

Prepare for a return to 4-2-3-1 folks.

Dont get me wrong Lando, I'd like see somebody new too - just having real trouble coming to terms with letting go of either Nando (Pedigree, class etc. etc.) or Cisse (14mill down the drain)...

I think it could be another case of, "we're not going to pay over the top for something not substantially better and more gauranteed (the most important bit) than what we've got"...

I've take the liberty of editing your line up - not quite so good up front on current form I agree but potentially it's pretty close...  I think Sissoko might me used more for selected games allowing Gerrard to play in the Aimar role from time to time.

I'd still like to see a bit more of Farfan but I think he'll definately be moving up in the summer and could be a bit of a surprise package. TBH, I'm not sure if Rafa's going to be making any changes to the forward line, I get the feeling that he'll be happy with Pongolle back from loan as a 5th striker and will spend his money on a top notch winger and another creative midfielder.  Rafa's always on about patience and long term goals, I think he'll see how Crouch Cisse and Nando go with the winger situation sorted before he makes a move in that department (in January).

Ah but things change year to year... defoe is now unhappy at spurs... van horseface not playing at utd (not saying he's an option - but just saying bout things changing) - just because crouch was the best on offer last season doesnt mean the same quality will be available this season.

Also. Rafa will only buy in January if he has to...being cup tied in europe is a major issue for a big-name coming in if you want to win the Champs league. No -  he will buy a striker(s) in the summer.

The only reasons for buying in January are: injuries, or very bad form (ie when fowler came in) or bringing young, fringe players (Agger).. or a real bargin (but rarely happens)

.... good call on Farfan though!!  :eyebrow

You guys have forgotten that Van Nisterooy may be leaving Man U this summer.  We could make a bid for him.

When it comes down to it, I want players that want to play in a red shirt. Like Momo who dropped the Bitters as soon as Rafa called, like Alonso who tells Real madrid to do one (again), like the manager, even like Stevie G who finally saw the light. Not interested in anyone whose agent is pimping him out for an extra 10k/20k a week :nod

Kuijt/Villa
Pennant
De Ceulaer

Thats all I can really think of, I would love to see Joe Cole or SWP on the right, because they have pace, can get goals, and already have prem experience, but I think it would be extremely unlikely, when Birmingham get relegated, we might be able to snag Pennant.

Since Aurelio is on a free, Gabriel Paletta and Mark Gonzales are already considered as liverpool players, I would like to see the likes of Ronaldo, Pablo Aimar, Joaquin, Dirk Kuyt and Bastian Schweinsteiger at Anfield.

2 Strikers: 1 at least proven in the English leagues.
Johnson or Defoe maybe
1 RM/RW: Pennant would do me. I reckon being at a high profile club may make him see the light and clean his act up
