Rafa's fab five - Your choices

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I was reading the Mirror this morning and they were talking about Rafa's new contract. They reckon that it will include funds for this summer so that Benitez can bring in 5 new player; 2 strikers, 1 midfielder and 2 defenders. So who's it gonna be? Aurellio looks probable, Ronaldo is a possible and it seems that Owen is a "No". So who would you have?

Personally, I'd take Ronaldo, Defoe, Joaquin, Aurellio and Gallas.

Aurellio,  Kuyt, Torres, Simao, ... but i dont think we'll bring in another 2 defenders with Palletta arriving just after Agger and Kromkamp in Jan.

but you cant really take the mirror as a source... so who knows!!

1)DAVID VILLA
2)Either Owen, Darren Bent Darren or Andy Johnston

RW
Pennant or Joaquin

2 Defenders
1)Aurellio
2)Palletta

I will add....if these players were brought in...we will be the 2006/2007 Premier League & Champions league winners

Fabio Aurelio for the left back, Xabi Prieto for the right, a Promising striker (not Villa due to he's expensive, not defo Torres because he's overrated), Plus Gonzalez (which is already done) and that's all. Perhaps Victor of deportivo aswell, as he's not a winger but a RM that can also play by the middle and even in the left.

We don't need anybody in the middle, Alonso and Gerrard are the best we can expect there, and Hamman could  be in the starting eleven, i liked him yesterday again, and he seemed to want to compete with Xabi Alonso giving long passes. He's solid as rock defending, and he's always where he has to be. Sissoko, hopefully fully recovered, is another nice option.

Sabre whats the chances of Xabi Prieto being at LFC next year, everytime i have watched him he has looked a very good player.
Could he adapt like Alonso has ?
How much would we be looking at in your opinion to sign the lad ?

I think that right now 6M-8M would do it, we need the money (although we've improved the economy since the last bast president left).

I think that he still has to learn a bit more o handle the pressure of Anfield, perhaps one season more, but of course if you wait, the player gets more expensive. I'd like him to stay here of course, but if he has to leave, let it be to Liverpool.

Two years ago he was in the youngster team, in the SEGUNDA "B" (inmediately lower segunda division), last year he had appearances , and this year is playing most of the matches. He has to improve his stamina to keep his excellent class during 90 minutes, and that can be trained (class can't be trained). In two year tops, we'll have a top class player, able to adapt any league of the world.

He's a pure winger, and we know that when Rafa agreed the refusal right with Real Sociedad, he was one of the players in which he was interested, alongside Riesgo, a young promising keeper, that could be a good second goalie of Reina (definitely not the first option).

The interview with Torres in 442 had him saying Alonso would phone him up telling him how great it was here. The reality of whether he would come is very different. As you say Sabre, even though Torres is a talented player, there's no way in the world he's worth £15-20 million.

This summer I would like the main money spent on quality rather than quantity. The three main positions being LB, RM and up front.

If this left back from Valencia is up to the grade and on a free then that'll do me for LB and we can sell Traore and Warnock.

RM would love SWP but not sure how likely it is IFHC will do business with us. Failing that I'd take Simao or Pennant.

Upfront I like the look of Kyut every time I've seen him. Defoe is definitely a good option even though he offers about as much as Cisse does to the team. Owen's class but his recent injury record is not encouraging.

i Think we should buy F.torres im sure he can link up well with alonso and garcia.

If not F.torres then David Villa seen a video of him he looks qiute a sharp striker

Id love to see owen back at the club but i read hes happy at tyneside.

Joaqiun or Simoa on RW but also M.Gonzalez who should get his permit by the summer if hes good enough we may be able to play him on the rihgt anyway.

i cant remember where i saw here but it said that David Villa signed a new contract and his buy out clause was £150 million.

The five for me being realistic would be Defoe hes fast and sefo has an eye for a goal, Aurellio <spelling all you guys are knocking on about him and alot of you know your stuff so i will like to see him.

Dirk kuyt i've seen him on channel 5 alot where they show the dutch league and he looks very good.

TBH Simoa and Jaoquim dont excite me very much i know they are good but they seem to play in spats Liverpool deserve consitant players and i dont think they would be, (but thats me).

And the idea about SWP i think that would be a defo no no, i think it was St michael who said that Chelsea would never part with SWP to strengthen their nearest rivals.

And lastly Ronaldo um i dont know what to make of this rumour
do we want Ronaldo? yes because he is pedigree and he is or was the best in the world, if he was to come to Liverpool for 5 mil like it was reported before yed we could afford that but his wages i dont think so, and not only that Ronaldo is a package we buy him and then you get the media circus aswell and if thats not a problem theres another his weight he gains and loses his weight like theres no tomorrow when he is light hes quick and very fit and when he has the weight well we all know what happens then, theres plenty of pros and cons with Ronaldo, im not sure if he is the answer to our strike force.

I don`t think we need 5 players I would settle for joaquin on the right Ronaldo and owen strikers if not owen defoe and aurellio left back.

All depends how much money rafa actually gets.

Kuyt and Torres should be our "A" targets at striker.  Kuyt because he is a known quantity in a tough league, and Torres because he is a phenomenal talent who we cannot pass on if possible....remember, this is the guy who Rafa said would be his first pick if money were no object.

At midfield, I think that Simao will have an inflated price tag that makes him out of reach.  He's good, but not THAT good.  I would like to see Pennant and Gonzalez.

On D, an additional left back to cover for Riise sounds good, but I would say that Warnock is a decent backup, so this is not as big a priority as a striker.  I WOULD like to see Traore go somewhere, but I don't think he would be good trade bait as we wouldn't be able to stop giggling at the negotiation table if they go along with it.

I'd be surpised if Rafa bought a striker currently in the prem.  he chose Crouch over the lot of them last year so don't think he's enamoured by any of them to be honest.

I'd still like to see a bit more of Farfan but I think he'll definately be moving up in the summer and could be a bit of a surprise package. TBH, I'm not sure if Rafa's going to be making any changes to the forward line, I get the feeling that he'll be happy with Pongolle back from loan as a 5th striker and will spend his money on a top notch winger and another creative midfielder.  Rafa's always on about patience and long term goals, I think he'll see how Crouch Cisse and Nando go with the winger situation sorted before he makes a move in that department (in January).
