Rafa is only 45 years old. He's poured his heart and soul into this job, he's building something and he's only just started. He has complete control at the club and the fans loved him even before Istanbul. I figure the Madrid job is there whenever he wants it and i've no doubt he will one day take it.

I just don't think it will be yet. Rafa doesn't strike me as the type of guy to leave before a job has been done. This job is no where near done. Rafa is moulding and shaping this Liverpool team for the now and the future. I don't think he will leave before he has won the title.

Im not overly confident in Rafa's quotes on the offal yesterday its twice he's said now I am only interested in the next game and we are still in three competitions, why cant he just say I want to stay at Liverpool for the forseeable future?

I'm not too keen on dealing with Madrid on any level and certainly not when it comes to our manager. Over the last couple of seasons they've taken Owen, and given us back Nunez and Morientes plus about 1.5 million quid. Whoever wrote the lockstock line "It's a deal, it's a steal, it's the sale of the feckin century" must have had our transfer dealings with Madrid on his crystal ball.
Like Lynds I've followed football long enough to read between the lines. Rafa would make us all feel better if he properly comitted, though I do still think that after due consideration he will decide to stay with us at the end of the season. I also think that in all probability, Madrid have tapped him up.

Benitez ignoring renewed Real talk Mar 3 2006

By Ian Doyle, Daily Post

RAFAEL BENITEZ has sent out another clear message that his long-term future remains at Liverpool.

The Spaniard has this week been strongly linked with a move back to his homeland after reports suggested he is the preferred choice of new Real Madrid president Fernando Martin.

Benitez has made no secret of his desire to take over at the Bernabeu at some point during his managerial career, but has previously insisted he wants to at least see out the remainder of his five-year contract at Anfield.

And the news that Benitez is currently attempting to persuade Paco Herrera to stay on at the European Champions further underlines his commitment to the club

Whats worrying me is Mick is that when Perez was still part of the hierarchy at Madrid Rafa came out and said he was staying at Liverpool when he has been linked to them in the past.
Now he has gone its a whole different ball game,Rafa has not come out and said he is not interested in the Madrid job not yet as he has a job to finish at Liverpool.
Made twice as difficult if im honest with Romans billions ruining the english premiership.
Maybe Rafa thinks we LFC can never compete with them for maybe the next decade in the financial aspect.
I would be more comfortable in this situation if he just said he wants to stay at Liverpool.
And who knows maybe Perez had to leave just so Rafa will go there.?

Sorry Bav but where does it say in that article that Rafa has said he is staying at Liverpool?
There are no quotes from him in that article what so ever?

His best coach our scout is heading back to Spain to his family, and as far as I am aware Madrid is also in Spain.

I'm looking about on Ebay for a bullet proof vest because I know I'll get shot to pieces for this post.

My own gut feeling is that when Rafa leaves Liverpool it will not be out the back door like Houllier, Evans or Souness. He won't be sacked and he'll leave with the side doing quite well. He'll leave for Madrid, it will happen overnight, and it will happen sooner rather than later.

JBG, by sooner i think you might mean in the next few years, not next few months...

there is no reason for him to leave. we are improving, real are getting worse. He has total control and stability here, he wouldnt at Real. Here he has the core players he really wants, at Real he doesnt.

I know, if I was Rafa's advisor I'd tell him to stay put. Its just my gut feeling.

Paul Jewell has things great at Wigan. Plenty of money, a hugely supportive chairman, players who work their socks off for him and fans who adore him yet if we came knocking on his door..................

yeah but liverpool to real is nothing like wigan to liverpool.

we are a massive club. no offence to wigan but they aint. There is nothing he cant achieve here that he can in eral (except the league title, which hes won already)

i just dont see what hed have to gain in this juncture in his life
