I think people who talk of the fact that Real are not a good team are totally missing the point. To tell the truth, if your lifetimes ambition is to manage real Madrid there can have been few better times over the last twenty years to take over the helm. They are a mile behind Barcelona and the fans are not stupid, they know that. Someone taking over now could rip the team to pieces and build his own dynasty and my guess is that the fans and board would stand back and let the right man get on with it. If they think that the right man is Benitez then obviously he is going to be very tempted to write his name in the Real history books as the man who made them great again.
Our best hope in my view is that their board set their sights on somebody else, though why they would I don't know because for what they need, benitez would appear to be the perfect candidate.

If Rafa did go to Madrid in the summer, would he take Morientes back with him and play him in every game even if he didnt score?
He may think Cisse is an enigma pulling faces when he gets subbed he would face the wrath of the Real Madrid fans if god forbid he subbed golden boy Raul.
A lot of pros and cons for the Madrid job but more cons than pros IMHO.
They survive on a lot of shirt sales Rafa doesnt seem the type of manager to buy big named stars, can you imagine a Real Madrid fan walking around with Crouch printed on the back of his shirt

Rafa is the boss here and likes it that way.

ok he would like more money but there is only one expection to any manager wanting more cash to buy players.

in spain he would have the board all over him agian like at valenica which is what made him leave in the first place. i think he has found a spritual home here where the fan and the board are behind him.

I was listening to the football phone in on the radio last night, a caller came on and said if rafa did go to madrid he would take stevie gerrard with him. You have to remember that rafa is a real madrid support, player and i think he was a coach as well, i think he would jump a the chance to manger the of the big clubs in the world. Although he is mangaering the best team in the world I just want him to stay at anfield

Yes................and no.

There is a brilliant opportunity to build an all conquering superteam at Madrid capable of dominating Europe for a decade. They are by far the biggest club in the world and are incredibly wealthy. If a new President went in with a long term plan and was prepared to be patient, he could achieve anything he wanted.

However, money and profit margin sheets currently seem to be the most important things to the men in suits at Madrid, and I could seem them loathe to sell, for example, David Beckham, because of Becks' remarkable earning power. If a new guy took over with the intention of continuing Perez' admittedly hugely successful business model, Rafa would be most unwise to go there.

My fear is that if a new guy who was a true football man and who didn't care about how many shirts Beckham sold took over, we are in very serious trouble. If a new guy approached Rafa and promised him full control over the team and transfer policy, Rafa would walk. I have no doubt in my mind at all about that. If that guy was appointed in June and made that promise to Rafa then, Rafa would go.

Madrid will have Rafa at the helm one day, but hopefully it will be when he is in his 60s and has won numerous trophies for Liverpool.

Cue massive Rafa banners and huge framed photo's for the Charlton game ,Christ ! I'm going to applaud him even if he starts with Traore up front and Gerrard in Goal .     .

We all have a whinge about "stuff" but there is no doubt Rafa has breathed new life into LFC it would be a disaster to lose him now .Gerrard was ultimately persuaded by the fans , lets hope we can do the same with Rafa .

The boot room itself is all spanish apart from Alex Miller. Should Rafa leave they would all go with him, then we would have to go threw the whole process again of bringing in a new manager plus backroom staff to boot.
And there would probably be an exodus of players leaving also if Rafa was to leave, Alonso, Garcia, reina a few of the reserves.
We would have to start from scratch all over again from when Houllier left.
The club would loose vasts amount of money also.
When old managers have left some part of the bootroom staff have taken over, Dalgliesh, Souness , Evans, Thommo these where all ex players that stayed on working for the club, should Rafa leave none of them currently at the club would stay and Paco would never become our next manager.
Theres an awful lot to worry about, lets hope it wont be necessary.

Would be interesting to see what would happen if Rafa approached the board and asked how much he is gonna have in the summer to spend - their reply is £15 million and whatever you make on sales or the President of Real turns round and says you can have full control of the team you can buy whoever you want and money is no object.

I personally think the original post was a good one and all the replys about talking $hit and calling him stupid means that you must have your head in the sand to not know Rafa cant be happy with whats going on.

He has had to assemble his own reserve team cos he couldnt mess with Heighway. He is having to struggle without a right winger when its obvious Parry f#cked about with the targets.

This summer we as a club have got to match the ambition of Rafa because as one of the worlds top managers he is going to be in demand. We must not be happy with 2nd or 3rd because Rafa is a winner and the board have to back him or lose him, simple as.

I really dont see Rafa as a man that would leave the job half-done. When he became the Liverpool manager he was considered with Mourinho as one of the top new managers. Rafa is a man who is up to the challenge of making Liverpool a true force again. He always says its not about getting the most expensive player but the right player. In Real, that is not the case. If the right player is worth 10 mil and there is another player, who is better known worth 30 mil, he will be forced to go for the second.

As for him not saying he is not going to Madrid, I think what he is trying to say is that it is not one of his priorities. He is thinking of the three competitions with Liverpool and Real Madrid is not on his mind.

the funny thing is Jose & Fergie might actually be blessings in disguise, i think Rafa would want to win the league and shut them up before he left. I think he wants to prove he can top them in the league and cement his legacy as a great coach. I really think Jose annoys him

he has been quoted on ssn as saying that he does not find it hard to not listen to these rumours as he is thinking about charlton and benfica.

he always comes across as a very driven manager and i think he has big plans for this club.

but i agree with st mike( good post by the way) he will strive for sucess and if the club don't match that we could lose him which would be a terrible thing as i think he is in the top five mangers in the world at the moment

Surley he would want his best coach with him in madrd?

His best coach our scout is heading back to Spain to his family, and as far as I am aware Madrid is also in Spain.

I was assuming that if he were to leave then he would Paco to go with him but hes convincing him to stay at Liverpool.
