Rafa on robbie and gonzalez

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

MARK GONZALEZ could be used as the bait to attract a right-winger to Anfield - before he has even kicked a ball for the Reds.

Rafael Benitez cannot use the highlyrated Chilean winger - signed from Albacete - until the Department of Employment grants a work permit.

But in a bid to over-come that frustration, the Reds boss is trying to hatch an imaginative swop deal with a Spanish club.

The unnamed club would get the services of Gonzalez until the work permit is approved, while Liverpool would solve their right-sided shortage.

"We don't have a lot of money, so we need to use our imagination. And we will try to use our imagination to bring in players," explained Benitez.

"We are trying to do something with Mark Gonzalez, because we cannot wait forever for a work permit.

"Right now I am thinking about another player in Spain, maybe in a swop, if it's possible. A right-winger. But we cannot say names because then we have problems.

"It's difficult because the big clubs and the big players are fighting to be in the top four and in European competition, and clubs won't sell those players. In this situation, I say again, we must use our imagination."

Benitez refused to admit, however, whether that imaginative thinking would be used to bring back Anfield idol Robbie Fowler to Anfield.

Linked with a return this week, Benitez confessed that he was aware of the speculation but said: "I cannot say it will never happen. I cannot say no, I cannot say yes."

That would be a very shrewd move if Raffa pulled it off!!

With only 4 days left he better make it snappy though!

I'd have to question your source and its credibility. I've been told he's heard about the fans wanted Robbie back, reviewed old videos and is keen to know weather he still has that level of ability (or close to). I don't believe for a second he'll go for Robbie though which is a crying shame as he'd suit this team down to the ground and would be a massive improvement on Cisse and would score more goals than Morientes.

I think if Rafa was remotely interested in a goal poacher he'd have kept Mellor in the squad.  I'm not saying Mellor is in Robbie's league, but he's the fox-in-the-box type.  Rafa wants the whole team to defend, then the whole team to attack, so I think he expects goals from all quarters rather than from one leading goalscorer.

He's a fuckin tit.

He makes me laugh with the answers to questions though. If he wasn't our manager i'd hate him. You can't get a straight answer out of him ever, he takes the piss out of the journalists.

Legend already. :bowdown
