I think Kewell will stay (at least for next season) Rafa has always shown a lot of belief in Kewell, so I can't see him getting shut just yet.

Its his contract though S@int mate.

£60,000 a week will not be re-newed.

I hope Kewell just stays and plays the season and then if he is not injured etc, then talk about a new contract.

Sadly the writing was on the wall long before now, more proof that all that glitters is not gold and a glimpse of what problems  can come from overseas buys, didnt see much of him before he came to us but saw enough in the early stages of him playing here to suggest he just wasnt cut out for the hustle and bustle of the prem.

I hope he does go on to be a great player wherever he ends up,aslong as their attitude is right when they wear the red shirt i wish nothing but the best for them when they move on, he brought in with great expectation on his shoulders and it wasnt his fault he failed to adapt.

I  am just as worried about Eto,Villa,Torres etc great players where they are but no guarantee and for a hell of a lot of money that they will adapt ( Shevchenko ?)

Good luck Gonzo, sorry it didnt work out

This is pure speculation, but not being good enough in the pitch might not be the only reason to him being out of the team. Rafa's note on his departure has been very very concise

Benitez said: "I was talking with him before and I said he could talk with other teams. He knows the situation.

"It's clear some players will leave. We almost have an agreement with Real Betis for Mark Gonzalez."

Not the typical praise, nor the typical he's an excellent professional or the typical "he's young and must have matches". No loans. So apart from the pitch, something might have been wrong with Gonzo and Rafa, perhaps adaptation, he didn't speak english at all last year.

I think that Rafa is showing here that if any player doesn't show the quality that LFC requires from it's players then he ain't gonna be swayed by whether he's just signed the player or not. Gonzalez showed a bit of promise in Spain but just hasn't shown any signs of that promise since signing.

His swift departure is gonna come as a warning to any of the other players in the squad that if they don't deliver they WILL be shipped out, even after just 1 season.

I think that Bellamy will not be too far behind him going out the door, we may even see one or two surprise departures.

Rafa is wasting no time in showing his hand for this summer and after coming up short last night I think he's determind to make up some big ground by improving the quality through the squad.
There will be no doubt that Gonzalez is going to be the first of many through the revolving door this summer.

the best LW in Europe is Florent Malouda from Lyon.  don't think rafa would spend £20m on him though.  not sure if he would wanna join liverpool either.

I would recommend Wesley Sneijder from Ajax.

I was really excited about this lad when we signed him. There was so much hype due to the protracted transfer. We never saw any of his "electric" pace though. I think the scouts must have been watching someone else when that got reported.
I remember watching him play for Chile last year against Ireland, and Richard Dunne beat him for pace. Alarm bells were ringing then for me.

Good luck to him now though. I'm sure Rafa will have a buy back clause in case he turns into something amazing.

Wesley Sneijder is a quality player but his publically said he wants to go to Valencia.  Bayern want him but he doesnt want to go there.  Malouda is the one.  French player of the year and he does want to move.  However Lyon will demand a huge price and Malouda has already said he will never demand that Lyon let him go.

As far as I am aware Kewell is "only" on £40k per week , and he got a £2million signing on fee.

Where are you going to get a player of his quality for less? If his injury problems are behind him,(which he needs to prove)he could save us a lot of money, and who's to say that if we bought someone they would be as good?

You know my feelings on Harry mate.

I love him when he's fit and think he was a major reason for us finishing 3rd last year.

But I feel Rafa might think differently.

I agree with Mick on this one, he's had a poor first season and he may develop, but we simply can't afford the risk involved in giving him games, particularly in the league.

It is the type of decision that potentially could cost us again.

Nontheless, I like his attitude and I think Spain suits him down to the ground. Good luck to him if he leaves for Spain, maybe Sabre will keep us updated on his progress in the future.
