so that arm and legs in the post? :p

i just like my independant quirky films and due to piracy less are being made. thats all im saying

While i can see your point Dawson, the cynic says to me that if there was no piracy there would just bigger profits for soulless corporations and amount of quirky indie films would still remain the same

Doesnt really concern me , like others i like collecting them so packaging is important

but i do download the occasional song   :D

Those who can afford the better quality of original will buy, those who cannot will either not buy or will look for cheaper alternatives...its that simple.

I'm in the process of ordering some dvds from a legitimate supplier in hong kong they are costing me less than a third of the uk price . One film is only £2.20 and yet HMV in London want £19.99 .

Not suprising that some folk prefer to take the download option.

Hit the nail on the head there Woof.

Go where its cheapest, although be responsible enough to ask yourself the question that if something is dirt cheap, is it legit (i.e. a lot of stuff from the Far East can be pirated, but "perfectly" pirated in an industrial kind of way).

I always go where its cheapest. If stuff on the High Street are too expensive I buy online. CDs are simply too expensive in stores, its better to shop around online and pay a lot less.

Can you buy a PC and all the software that you require at one go?'
The cost of windows, office, macromedia studio, photoshop and probably a software development tool like vs studio should be more than 1500 pounds.
Which means if your story is true, that you bought your PC from software pirates  :D

File-sharing 'not cut by courts'

Digital music is booming - in all forms
Global court action against music file-sharers has not diminished illegal song-swapping, says an industry report.
Despite 20,000 cases in 17 countries the overall level of file-sharing has remained constant for two years.

But the International Federation of the Phonographic Industries (IFPI) said it was "containing" the problem.

It also reported that global sales of legal downloads had passed $1bn (£569m) and music downloaded onto mobile phones was now worth $400m (£227m) per year.

In his introduction to the report, IFPI chairman John Kennedy said the industry would step up its legal fight against file sharers in the coming year.

"The strategy will not eradicate the problem, but it is containing it.

DIGITAL MUSIC: STATE OF THE INDUSTRY
Legal music sales pass $1 billion a year
A library of two million songs legally available
420 million singles downloaded in 2005
19,400 people sued for illegal song-swapping to date
335 legal online music services available
35% of illegal file-sharers have cut back*
14% of illegal file sharers have increased activity*
One in three illegal file-sharers buy less music*
*Jupiter survey of 3,000 people in UK, Germany and Spain

"Consumer research shows that every second person who cut back on illegally file-sharing has done so out of concern for the legal consequences."

The report said the total number of illegal music files available on networks had fallen by 20% over the last two-and-a-half years.

Mr Kennedy also backed the continuing use of Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology which controls what consumers can do with their music once it has been purchased - either online or in physical form.

DRM remains controversial, with some critics arguing it does little to prevent piracy but instead limits what consumers fairly should be able to do with their music.

Eroding

Earlier this week the National Consumer Council complained that DRM was eroding established rights to digital media.

In a statement to a UK parliamentary inquiry it said the digital locks put on content were "constraining the legitimate consumer use of digital content".

DRM can be used to limit how many computers can play a particular downloaded track, how often it can be copied onto a CD and whether it can play on a particular MP3 player.

Record companies are increasingly using DRM on compact discs to stop them being copied, either on to computers or on to MP3 players.

Millions of people have been copying music from their bought CDs to MP3 players but this is growing increasingly difficult with CDs which will not operate in computers.

Mr Kennedy, writing in the report, said that DRM "helps get music to consumers in new and flexible ways".

He said DRM was a "sometimes misunderstood element of the digital music business".

its so quiet i can hear your heart beating.

And as for your movies, its probably due to low demand that the production has gone down, not sharing.

Otherwise microsoft would have shut down a long time ago, with its products being the most pirated in the world.
But bill gates isnt complaing loudly about piracy, coz hes making enuff cash already.
