What you've heard AB is pretty much true. He is a quality talent at the moment and has the makings of a world class winger in him but there are times when he just tends to drift out of games and you can forget he's even on the pitch; as i've also said before on here he can be very selfish on the ball and this can be very frustrating (think of when stevie g was going through his bad patch a few years back and was tryingto do everything himself but it just wasn't working).
He is a very good player though and maybe in a side like our he could possibly produce the goods but that as always is the $64,000 (or should that be £15million) question.

Theirs rumours that Newcastle want him, Luque has been told by Souness to keep tabs on him at the Spanish training camp and Joaquin has said he'd like to link up with Owen cos he's the greatest striker in the world.

I'd love to see him wear the famous red shirt but I just doubt Rafa would pay the crazy money that Betis want for him, fingers cross aye  :(

For fecks sake we are the champions of europe and its Newcastle who are spending a fortune on players, but how about this???

We have won seven games in a row   Real Madrid come sniffing and Rick Parry tells Rafa give me your christmas shopping list and we'll provide everything on it, as a business man this makes perfect sense, hopefully we will see the players that Rafa wants in January, after all Real Madrid would let him have them!!!

Joaquin, Nesta, Kuyt & Defoe please

There is a snippet on BBCi in the Gossip Column saying that Pardew is warning Prem. rivals Liverpool to forget about making a move for Anton Ferdinand.

See Link : BBC Gossip Column

If pardew has said this then there must be a possibility that we've been sniffing around him and who knows this maybe who Rafa wants as a long term replacement for SAMI.

If Parry's willing to get players Rafa wants, then we're fine.  Rafa's got a good eye for talent obviously and I'm sure we can get some great players in January.

I think Joaquin is unreachable and if he is inconsitant then no thanks. In order to be consistant we have to have consistant players for the most part. If Joaquin was cheap then he would be worth to buy but he's not.

If Benfica keep Simao's price up then we may not sign him either. Instead I believe we'll sign Dario Srna who would suit Benitez perfectly. He's a skillful[probably not as good as Joaquin in terms of ability] but he's a hard working player which is what Benitez looks for.

He also can play in other positions if needed, but he's a right winger.

yeah well newcastle are obviously intent on ending up like leeds. they can't afford to sack souness considering the amount they have spent on transfer fees and wages over the past 3 years. michael owen is reportedly on £102,000 a week and kieron dyer (who is rubbish and always injured) is on £80,000 a week.

it's gross mismanagement on their part. we're not that stupid.

Their chairman always puts bids on ''high profile players'' in order to try to make the fans think that Newcastle are a ''big'' club. They haven't won ANYTHING in the last 50 years, they're far from a big club.

Here's one that will please Stu.

It was in yesterdays People that after consulting with senior players Rafa will be in for Pennant in January and that he wont be put off by his chequered past.

It says we could get him for 4 million.

Whats the thoughts on him....at 4 million half what Simao is being quoted i think its a great deal.
There would obviously be the risk of him falling into his bad habits...but 4 million is peanuts in todays market.

Pennant is a quality player who, if he behaves, would be a great asset for Liverpool. Think having guys like Stevie G, Carra etc around him he would tow the line.

Anton Ferdinand is a definate option. Must see this as an opportunity not only to play in Europe but potentially force his way into the England squad for the World Cup. I know England have LOADS of excellent centre halves but from what I have heard this guy ain't far off. Especially with his big bro a liability!!!

For all his misgivings I think Pennant's quality. Imo he's a better player than SWP and would walk into the England side when Beckham leaves IF he could sort his head out. For £4m he'd be an absolute snip.

There's no doubt that Pennant is quality and at £4 million would obviously be a bargain compared to the other RW that have been mentioned. I have got a big concern though about his off field mis-demeaners and worry that he could upset the seemingly close knit group of our squad at the moment. Of course there is nothing to suggest that Rafa wouldn't be able to calm him down and that he would become the model pro at anfield. Another point that does have to go in his favour is that he's english and has got Prem. experience which all of the other players mentioned haven't got and with us flying at the moment the last thing that we need is to be carrying a passenger that is struggling to get used to the premiership.

If it is 4million, its worth a try as Pennant is in fact quality. Its not like he is diouf who is the king of mis-demeaners. Pennant was really good going down the wing and got a very good cross. If I have to spend 8 to 12 million on Simao (an unknown to me) and even more on Joaqin, why not buying a sure thing in Pennant. I got a hitch our players come to this forum for players transfer advice. :D

Will Benfica still sell Simao as they are still in the champions league, as far as i was aware he wasnt going to move unless they got knocked out. Just a thought?

4 mil for pennant would be a great deal, can't see Birmingham selling him though.

Anton Ferdinand I don't rate at all to be honest, watched west ham a few times this season and he's not impressed me.  He's prone to the odd blunder which was his big bro's trademark at that age.  I don't think he's as good as Rio, in fact not even as good as Rio was at that age, a lot of the hype surrounding him is because of his brother.  Rooney took him apart a few weeks back and even Heskey gave him all sorts of trouble last week.  I spoke to a few west ham fans about him and even they said he was massively overrated.  No thanks.
