Man ure v champions of europe

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

in rooney and van nistelrooy they have two of the best in the world at what they do, but the shambles behind them is shocking for a team of the stature of man u. the midfield is a shadow of past glories and the defence is... er... well... it isn't.

we should have no problem dominating the midfield in this game and make sure that very little service gets to the front two. rooney will come deeper and deeper looking for the ball which keeps him away from where he's most dangerous. we have to use the flanks well and pull their defence all over the place, for which i'd like to see garcia out right if he's fit, or maybe even cisse, because this is a game designed for stevie g's charges through the middle.

i'm trying to find out who's scheduled to ref this match but i can't find it anywhere.

i hope it's clattenburg. i think he's a great ref. the way he let the game flow against luton was great for the neutral (not so good for us). :D

Well, the way I'm looking at it is..We've have never been in a better position to travel to OT, not in the last 10 years anyway... It's important that we do not show them too much respect. They are a team in decline with a manager who should have retired 3 years ago! We should go and attack from the off, keep them on the back foot! I don't care if they have a full squad to pick from! We are better, and have nothing to fear! Attack, attack, attack!!! Let's finish their season for them! :D

only problem we will face is the united attack as imo they have the best strike force in the pl with 26 goals between the front 2 which is damn good given the situation of their midfield( :censored:). but in saying that we have the best defensive record in the pl and if we can rooney and ruud quiet we will win the game with ease.

Hard game to call.

At the moment, I think we have actually surpassed Man UTD in overall quality. There is no contest up front, in RVN and Rooney UTD have by FAR the better players.

On the flipside of the coin our defence, as a unit, greatly exceeds the quality of UTD.

They may or may not be better out wide, they are probably better given that they play a lot down the wings, although as individuals I don't think the platoon of wingers UTD have at their disposal are quite as good as many make out. Ronaldo can be thrilling at times, but he's mostly useless who impresses people who know nothing about football with stepovers and tricks that have no effect on the play. I don't call him completely useless because for all his faults, about once a game he can get in behind the full back and cause a bit of damage with a moment of magic. His talent should mean that he gets in 5 or 6 times a match, but the boy is a bit brainless and has a primadonna crowd pleasing streak in him that currently holds him back from being a quality player (I cannot believe Ferguson indulges him, it really shows how soft Fergie is getting, but that is another matter).

In midfield we are far superior, Alonso should run the game and I don't think UTD will handle Gerrard's bursts from midfield.

On paper I think Liverpool are more than capable of winning - and winning well - and for those Man UTD fans reading this, get used to it, thats a fact, not the subjective opinion of a Liverpool fan.

However, UTD have players capable of doing serious damage in a blink of an eye, and while we could dominate the match, Rooney (he is playing, isn't he?) could peel off Carragher's shoulder and win the match with one of those tunderous shots of his. We are 12 league games into an amazing run, UTD are coming off the back of a bad defeat, so for the purposes of this game, its difficult to call.

However, the fact is, over the past 10-15 games we have been consistently  better than UTD, both in England and Europe. We concede less goals and close teams down an awful lot better. There have been games this season where teams playing Liverpool never look like scoring, but against UTD, many teams look like they can breakthrough.

Fingers crossed that Liverpool can make a statement as to how the balance of power is shifting away from UTD and Arsenal to Chelsea and Liverpool. They are more than capable of doing it, and in the best of three games, I think Liverpool would shade it, but on a one off, and at Old Trafford, UTD are still capable of pulling off a result.

UTD may try to man mark Alonso, and Sissoko will probably follow Rooney around all game. Rooney comes deep a lot to receive the ball (he's actually more of an attacking midfielder than a centre forward) and Sissoko will stick to him. How Rooney will react to a few of Sissoko's akward and heavy tackles will be very, very interesting.

I can't see us being beat, we're playing with great confidence at the mo and a fair bit of ability. It seems to me that if we stop the supply to rooney who inturn supplies mr ed, that will be are biggest problem keeping them two quiet.I watched the manc derby on telly and that's we're the threat was coming from most. They on the other hand will have to worry about our midfield and of course our width which is now more apparent than before, the hight and strength of our front 2 will also cause problems ,depending on who he plays rafa can cause the mange a real big fat headache, imho i can see a pretty comfortable win for us as long as we're not to tired.

it seems all is not happy in the manc camp.

it would appear the players are not happy with ronaldos attitude and are angry for him getting sent off on saturday. this resulted in a heated exchange between ronaldo and horse face during training. whats also interesting is that the scum have not won a game in 2006

Man Utds midfield this season has been the reason they have failed, similar in ways to Arsenal. They both are lacking the driving force in the middle, i.e. Keane and Vieira. Our midfield is overwhelmingly better than Man Utds, and Rafa will stick to the formation that is providing results. If it ain't broke don't try to fix it, to me I expect to see -

                      Reina

Finnan     Carragher     Hyypia     Riise

Gerrard     Alonso     Sissoko     Kewell

         Crouch     Morientes/Cisse

Subs: Cisse/Morientes; Kromkamp; Garcia; Hamann; Carson

Its a winning team, the only improvement now needs to be up front. All strikers haven't scored in a while and i think they need to pull their finger out and really help the team. If we are to achieve great things we need 11 committed performing players
