at his age he doesnt want to be sitting on a bench waiting for someone else`s misfortune to happen and keepers dont often collect injuries (apart from kirkland that is) compared to outfield players anyway, so he could be in for a long wait if he stays.
he`s gone down in club folklore after his heroics in istanbul and his save from schevchenko in injury time will probably be my abiding memory from the game itself and probably THE defining image of the night alongside gerrard holding up the cup with those bits of red paper flying everywhere.
jerzy comes across as a nice guy and for him to start using language like grudges in reference to rafa it shows how frustrated he has become. i`d let him go.
thaks for the memories pal you`ll never be forgotten in this household.

Dudek, should definetly be allowed to leave, he has definetly earned the right IMVHO to be allowed to look for employment elsewhere, seen as his prospects dont look too good with us at the moment.

TBH, it would be best (as people above have said) to let him leave a hero, becuase I can still remember plenty crucial mistakes he made in the past, and I fear if he was to play again, and put in a poor showing or even worse, make a clanger, then it would remind us all of the 'old' Dudek and taint his current, I wouldnt say legendary, but rather cult hero staus he has with us at the moment.

However, there is a plus (IMO) to this, and it is that if Dudek is allowed to leave, I am sure it will give a Carson, a bit of a boost, knowing that Rafa sees him as his definitive No.2, and that he IS in Rafa's plans for the future. What with Kirkland looking likely to go to West Brom permanently and the imminent departure of Jerzy Dudek.

Finally, playing in what could be his last World Cup must be extremly important for Dudek, so I hope he finds regular first team football, with a decent team in a decent league.

I think Jerzy should move on, He is a better keeper than a second choice.

He could go to middlesbrough now that (tie me kangaroo down) Schwarzer has handed in a transfer request.

Which would be nice as Im a student in sunny boro and i may finally get to meet him. :eyebrow

Very true, he wasn't that awe-inspiring up until the Sheva free kick in the 52 minute, and the save from Sheva in the dying minutes of extra time. The penalty ( please people, im playing Devils Advocate) that was saved from Pirlo should have been retaken, as he came off his line so much so, that he almost stood next to Andrea.
Having said that, Dudek deserved to leave straight after, so LFC could have got the most $$ out of him, being Champions of Europe, and already being linked with Reina before the final.
Dudek was ok that night, but he did have some clangers, if it weren't for the heroics of the 10 men in front of him, we'd all be singing a different tune about Dudek.

BTW, it was Westerveld in goals during Houllier's Treble season, Dudek was bought that summer to off load Westerweld, and if I remember correctly, he went on to win La Liga with Sociedad in his debut season for them.

be playing first team footy.

Looks like Middlesboro will be looking for a new goalie so
I wouldn't be surprise if McLaren makes a bid for him.

If he wants to go we must let him. Rafa said he only wants players who want to be here.

But if it were me, I'd stay even if it meant me playing as the second-choice reserve 'keeper. (But then I'm a fan, not a player!!!!!)

If he doesn't want to stay there is no point keeping him.

I personally think the lad in the West Brom goal (Kuszczak) keeping Kirkland out is the better keeper, and if I was the Polish manager I would play with him as first choice.

Dudek should be allowed to leave. He played the game of his life in Istanbul but despite the heroics, he is not the model of consistency that a serious EPL championship contender requires (unless you are Arsenal or Manure who have clowns in goal in Lehmann - less of a clown this season - and Howard) and hence, his relegation in the pecking order.

Of course you'd leave if you were Dudek, providing Liverpool and whoever else sign you on agree to fund the 65k per week he is reportedly earning. Fans need to remember that footballers are in the game to earn a living first, and for the glory second. With very few exceptions they will ply their trade to the highest bidder and have no particular affinity to any club other than the one which is paying their salary. Fans who think this is disgusting would do well to remember that unlike when you work in local government, the club is under no obligation whatsoever to re-employ at the end of a contract and can release a player onto the pool of unwanted and discarded ex-footballers.
That is the reality of modern life. Now in Dudeks case, while the money for the remainder of his contract is clearly fantastic, he needs to play first team football to get into the Poland team for the World Cup. When he gets there and presumeably performs well, it will make it much easier for him to negotiate another lucrative deal with the club he is playing for, once his Liverpool contract runs out. If he stays on Liverpools bench it is possible he will have to settle for a minor deal when his contract expires. Actually I'd like to ammend my original point. It's not about the glory, ultimately its all about the dosh when push comes to shove. Incidently, I don't blame him in the slightest and wish him all the best.

I cannot believe Dudek is on 65k a week!! phenomenal wages for a keeper.

Ineteresting article recently from ex-Chelski player Winston Bogarde, being voted worst prem player ever. Basically saying he don'y give a sh.it, as he is retired now and earned 15 MILLION EUROS!! in his time sitting on the Chelski bench.............Feckin crazy world!!

I have no insider knowledge Max but apparantly from some of the lads on here have said and what has been reported in the press, it is so. Supposedly was the contract offered to him by Houllier as his old one was running out.

Jamie Carragher has spoken of his pride and delight after receiving a double honour from the Merseyside branch of the official Liverpool supporters club.
Carragher, the Reds' undisputed player of last season, walked away with the player of 2005 award and the inaugural Emlyn Hughes Award.

The latter, which was presented by members of Emlyn's family, is given to the player who plays the game in the best spirit of our former double European Cup winning captain.

In the player of the year poll Carragher beat off competition from Xabi Alonso (second) and Luis Garcia (third).

"An award like this means even more to me because it's voted for by the fans," says the Reds inspirational number 23.

"I'm also proud to have been handed an award in honour of Emlyn Hughes, who's one of the greatest defenders to ever play for Liverpool. If I can win as many league titles and European Cups as he did at Anfield, I'll be even happier."

Another winner at the glittering awards ceremony was Academy starlet Calum Woods, who was the proud recipient of the Ian Frodsham Memorial Award – given to Liverpool's young player of the year.

Former skipper and assistant manager Phil Thompson's outstanding service to the club was recognised when he was handed the Tom Saunders Tribute Award, sixties utility man Geoff Strong received the Billy Liddell Award and Jerzy Dudek was given a standing ovation when he went up to collect a one-off award created especially for him in honour of his Istanbul heroics.

DUDEK DESPERATE TO LEAVE LIVERPOOL

Jerzy Dudek insists he will not play again for Liverpool and wants to leave the club "at whatever cost".

The goalkeeper, a hero for the Anfield club in last season's Champions League final against AC Milan, has accused manager Rafael Benitez of talking "rubbish".

After the 32-year-old played a key role in the penalty shoot-out in Istanbul, he has since fallen behind both Jose Reina and Scott Carson in the Anfield pecking order, and wants first team football to protect his place in the Poland team for this summer's World Cup finals in Germany.

"My time at Liverpool has reached its end. Nothing can change that," Dudek told The Sun.

The Pole believes Liverpool want £3million for him, but said: "If someone buys me for £3million, Liverpool will have pulled off the transfer deal of the year. I am 33 in March. I have no idea how they came to such an absurd figure.

"It's the latest lot of rubbish from Benitez. Even if he wants to play me in a Liverpool match, I don't want to play for this club any more.

"I can't see any point talking further with Benitez. It's a waste of time. I have decided to leave Liverpool at whatever cost and I won't change my mind. Benitez just makes the frustration deeper.

"I didn't go to play against Luton in the FA Cup last Saturday especially to make it clear to Benitez I am not interested in being the club's second-choice keeper.

"Why doesn't he behave like a decent person for once in his life and start treating me in a proper way, like I always have him?"
