Theo walcott - Please dont slate me for this

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Ok so im sure most of you have heard about or seen Theo Walcott in action. Hes 16 years old, plays for Southampton and is currenyl being coveted by several clubs in England including ourselves if im right. If anyone saw his goal on the weekend against Luton then you know that this is a player who posesses natural talent on the scael of Wayne Rooney. Admitidley we would have loved to sign Rooney but being a Toffee that would never had worked out aswell as his price tag was in the £30Million range beacause he stayed at Everton for so long.

I know we are not short of money right now and some people (Cisse) could be on their way out come Jan. I think Rafa should risk shelling out 8 or 10 million and getting Walcott. It would be great if we had someone like that playing along side us. I kow hes not proven in the top level yet but thats what they said about Rooney in the begining and now the whole country is depending on him mostly to help England lift the world cup.

If he goes to Chelsea 1 of 2 things will happen. He will flop due to lack of starts and become an expensive substitute like SWP and Paolo Ferriera or he could glitter and really make them more difficult than they already are to go up against.

Im sure the prospect of playing for the European Champions would go doen well in his mind but this is one guy who would not come cheap but i do feel in the long term he could work magic.

I just thought id make this post as his name has not really been metioned yet on this forum and i thought id see what your veiws are on him?

I agree the figure is absurd and this may be a risk but how many "risk" buys did Houllier go through?

How much did Diao, Diouf, Cheyrou cost? Rafa should be funded for this if he wants to sign him and i hope that if he does Rick Parry gieves him the money. Winning the WCC could fund most of the deal itself.

don't get me started on that one. that whole escapade still makes my blood boil to this day. we signed those three clowns because we weren't willing to pay the £3-4m extra to sign duff and anelka. :veryangry

back to this walcott kid. i personally think he should stay at southampton for at least one more season after this. however if chelsea are truly interested then it's goodnight because they'll just offer more money than anybody else, even if it means the kid sitting in their reserves for a couple of years.

agreed.  I think Rafa thinks this also, hence he hasn't paid any more than 700k for 'young stars.'  I think we're all fed up with 'promising players' who cost the earth....personally i'd rather take someone whose the finished product now.

Its would be a shame really if he did go to Chelsea but i just hope that the boy has good honest agents who are looking out for the boys future now his bank balance. What am i saying, "good honest agents". Sorry i dont know what came over me there for a minute.

not worth 8milllion! not yet, we dnt know enough as he needs a full season before we can say 8million. Unfortunatley, Chelsea will buy hm for 8-10m, ruin him and farm him out to Charlton or somewhere......

Agents are always looking for bank balance. They usually get about 2-5 % of the transfer fee and 2% of what a player earns. It is in their self interest to think money. But to be fair, Liverpool would be a far better choice for the lad. Here we have a strong team, good management and good trainers. Walcott is only 16 and paying £ 8 millions for him is insane. But with Chelsea sniffing around every young and old player so it goes.

They should try and get him. Chelsea will probably beat us to him, but this kid's very good, he's not a Milner, he's like Owen, Rooney.

simple as he's a great talent. he is only 16 so if any one is going to sign him they will exploit the fact he has a youth contract and pay off his current deal with saints. 8-10 mil is not truthful and absurd.

Hes described as a whizzkid, i cant see the harm in paying 8million for him, hes going to be a class act, ive got a feeling we will see this lad a Liverpool shirt one day, if we dont get him another big club will and im afraid we wil regret it.

Ive seen the young lad play a good few times now, and I think if you dont purchase him now for 8 million further down the line it will be alot more.

8 million is a bargain.   Dont forget we paid 14 for Cisse lol
