Neither Zenden or Riise have been selected to face Chelski

Neither. Slam Garcia there, with Pongo on the right, or vice-versa.

Zenden has been poor for us everytime he pulls on the red shirt.  I'm prepared to give the guy this season to prove himself but i'm glad Kewell is back and getting time in with the reserves because we're desperatly in need of someone to spark something from the wing with a cross or run.

yeah im gald kewell is coming back aswel (for some reason)

zenden is supossed to be a winger, yes? wingers need dribbling skills and pace which he has neither. his crosses are average. some will now argue the same about risse but risse wasnt bought as a winger but plays there a hell of alot better imo

Strange thing about both Zenden and Kewell is that when they played against us they always seemed to get down the wing and get crosses in, but when they came to us they seem to have adopted a more cautious approach. Nothing annoys me more than to see a winger take the ball up to a fullback, stop, turn around and pass it back to his own fullback.

Ok you cant expect them to get past every time but if they dont try it then its never going to happen

Is Zenden supposed to be a winger?  As far as I know, he's a left-footed centre-midfielder who's been moved to the left side to give Risse an occasional rest.  He was free so you can't complain too much, but he isn't a winger in the truest sense of the word.  He's another player out of position I'm afraid, poor guy.

I'll rock the boat and say that we should give Kewell one last chance on the left as soon as he recovers from injury.

Kewell at his best was as good as anybody in that position and while I accept the reasons behind many Liverpool fans' discontent with Kewell, I think that his talent is such that we should give him one last chance.

It's not really a case of 'should we give Kewell one last chance' imo.  We HAVE to give him another chance because neither Riise or Zenden are up to playing a left wing-forward role that our current 4-5-1 demands.  The Kewell of the Leeds era is tailor-made for that position.  He's on 65 grand a week with almost 3 full years left on his contract, so he'd get a massive pay-off if we transfer-listed him.  Benitez has to keep this guy unless he requests a transfer himself, so it makes sense to play him when he gets fit.

I think that is correct.

Kewell is a excellent winger, when on form, but he was even better when he could tuck in and work his way to the edge of the box.

A 4-2-3-1 would suit Kewell down to the ground and I think Rafa believes Kewell is his best bet in that role, as can be shown by Rafa gambling on Kewell in the Champions League final.

Kewell would have been humbled and hurt by his poor form over the past two or three seasons, particuarly when the fans started to turn against him. If he's even half a player this should give him enough incentive to come back hungry and prove everybody wrong. Whether he will, well, thats another thing.

Its time he sorted himself out. He needs to come back fully fit, and not complaining about being half fit and having a dodgy groin/ankle. There's no point in playing a Harry Kewell thats not 100% fit, as last season and the end of the previous year showed.
