Micheal owens game is really starting to resemble that of andy cole! needs a ball played to his feet to became an effective player, i think that we have seen the best from micheal owen and would not mind seeing him go for a 18m+ figure, but that could could haunt us sell him to a euro elite side and they could reep the benefits for a reformed micheal owen so...

should liverpool keep or sell owen?

You have to ask weather or not we should sell one of the worlds best strikers?

Just who would you get to replace him? Schevchenko? Henry? Ronaldo? Raul? don't think any of them would come do you?

I hear both arguments there boys but LFC cannot (Will not ?) allow Owen's contract to expire or even get to January next Season so its DECISION time for Michael and its his call. If he refuses to sign at the end of this season then LFC will have no option but to sell to gain the maximum price. Although whatever you think of Owen , at the CURRENT tike he is hardly putting himself in the shop window is he?

Call it lack of opportunities, confidence or whatever but Real and AC aren't exactly busting their gut to get him are they . I wish him well (Michael that is) and i sincerely hopes he does stay and find the form he is capable of and in someone like Kanute or Hassalbank a top drawer striker to play alongside him. I don't think Owen knows which way to go at the moment. I'm sure him signing a new contract will depend on 2 things.

1- If we fail to achieve Champ league football he will most likely be off.

2- I believe he will leave the club if Houllier is kept on. Houllier has always been very supportive of Owen in public yet i notice there Owen has never returned the favour. Unlike the likes of Carra, Gerrard and Murphy I cannot recall a single article/quote in which Owen has praised or supported the manager. He does not look happy and he doesn't look as if he likes the way the team play.

Of-course if you believe what i say, it is catch-22 coz if we get Champ league footy Houllier will be allowed to stay. If we don't, Mikey will be off. Bummer!

I think you are talking absoloute bullsh#t.

He publically stated on tv he liked the management the club and the area. I have faith in the lad, i don't have him down as a liar and decieptful.

You know why? Because he plays for the club i love and i support him. If he lets me and everyone else down so be it, i'm gonna give him the chance to do that because he deserves it.

He's our best player at the end of the day. No question. Stevey's getting there, but its Michael who can get the goals.

I also rate Owen and will stand by him during his tough time now. He has his injuries and his indifferent spells, but if we could get a good season out of Owen we would see a 15-20 point improvement over our current position, regardless of who are manager is.

However, I blame the management for not having a suitbale back up plan to scoring when Owen is injured. Watching the game against Leicester yesterday we did little to threaten the Leiciester goal other than from long range, and while Baros causes havoc with his running and enthuasism, he is still not a penalty box player and has a lot to learn.

I want Owen to stay and I hope the club is doing everything possible to keep him, but if he flat out rejects a contract in the summer and says he wants to go then we should try to sell him if we can.

However, if he chooses to sit out his contract and leave on a Bosman I wouldn't really blame him, given our current inability to meet his ambitions and play to his strengths.

Owen's last two seasons have been horrible. I think he is worth £3-6 mio, but I do not think there will be a lot of clubs interested in signing him. If a offer is made. Sell. We have a better player in Baros and Pongo looks good too. We do not need three small pacey strikers. Baros and Pongo have more pace than owen, better first touch, control and look more determined.

On his day Owen is up there with the best in the world,but those days do seem to be getting fewer and fewer.
As for selling him ? If Mikey hasn't signed a new contact by Sept then we should make him available for transfer.It would be a sad day but there would be no other sensible alternative.

The thing is though i think he'll sign.

I agree if he's not signed by the summer he has to go for the good of the club but we should do everything in our power to get him to sign.

As for this comment

£3-6 m for Owen??? Banana what the f##k are you talking about? Even on current form an absolute minumum of £15m, probably considerably more

Owen has one year left of his contract. He scores few goals and his overall game is poor. He is prone to injuries. All these factors reduce his price. If you haven't noticed, the transfer market is not as lively as it used to bee five years ago. Only a few select teams have money to spend. Most teams are actually cutting costs by reducing wage bills, squad size, letting players go for a free or on loan to reduce costs. I say we should be happy if we get paid at all. The most likely outcome is Owen moving on a bosman. He is free to sign a new contract with any club in december. In my opinion Owen looks like developing into a Robbie Fowler. A used to be player past his prime. So many young talented players have failed to live up to their true potential. Owen is not unique. I hope he proves me wrong. But right now that seems very unlikely.

Owen will sign a 1 year extension. GH wants him to sign a 5 year contract but Owen isn't willing to comit for that long given our poor form.

Maybe you disagree with me but what Owen is experiencing is a dip in form, rather than a terminal decline. The big spenders in Europe know that and would happily pay big money for him as it's only a matter of time until he starts putting the goals away again. Additionally I think a move to the continent would give him the drive and urge to prove he can still be one of the worlds best.

Stu probably thinks otherwise but Owen's not happy at Liverpool. Yeah he says in the press that he is but what else is he gonna say to keep them off his back?

I've no doubt the Real Madrids of this world will be sniffing round him when the transfer market opens and have the funds available to do something about it. As much as I'd love him to stay and re-find his form I think we should sell if we get the right offer and he's still dily-dallying about signing a new contract. We CAN'T let him do a Macca and leave us with our pants down
