Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Leonmc0708 » Mon Mar 29, 2004 4:10 pm

Boys, are we looking at his and judging with our hearts or our heads?

1)   Liverpool Football Club will NEVER again be stung by a Bosman style free transfer, the fingers are still burning from the McManaman saga. Moores is a businessman, and will have learnt some very harsh lessons from the debacle that was Macca to Madrid. This was in the very early days of the Bosman Ruling, and there is no way whatsoever Liverpool Football Club will allow any player to hold it to ransom as Shaggy did.

2)   Form is temporary, Class is permanent. Its an old cliche in football, but one that rings true time and time again. If Michael is in a rut, the papers will be on his back, saying he is finished and past it etc. What happens, St Michael will pop up with a pearler or put a brace thru the opposition net. Make no mistake, Michael Owen has been and will be in the future the number one striker in Europe. He didnt win the Balon D'or (European footballer of the year award) by accident.

3)   Michael Owen is a Liverpool fan. Think about it, everytime he scores look at his face, its not the face of a man intrested only in the trappings of modern day football. He loves this club, as much as you and I. Its been a part of his life since he was eight years old. He is not some mercenary 35 year old Foreign toss pot, out for all they can get. He is more than aware that he is who he is today beceause he plays for and was nurtured by Liverpool Football Club.

4)   Owen is not Robbie Fowler, or Steve McManaman. He will not fail to live up to his potential, he is the most level headed player you will ever meet. He is not stupid enough to follow the crowd into the toilet at the local bar, nor will he belive the hype and think he is better than he is, or bigger than the club which raised him.

5)   Like each and every one of us, the lad has ambition. Would you rather have a player at the club who is happy to sit on the bench week in week out, and pick up £50K, OR someone who wants to lift the European Cup, win the League and play the best teams in Europe every year. If Liverpool Football Club cant satisfy his hunger and ambition, (hand on heart can we right now) then can you blame him for thinking about a move elsewhere??

i think the only reason Owen isnt performing at his best is because he looks like a player with no confidence, playing in a team with no confidence.
Hense the fact alot of our players are underachieving this season.
Reason for this, some say the manager, some say we dont have enough talent.
I dont no why to be honest, i would just like to see somthing change and quick

Owen has been one of our worst performers over the last two years. When a team goes through hard times, the best players should take on extra responsibility and show their class. Gerrard and Hamann have done this, Owen has failed. Owen is one of the reasons to why Liverpool has failed so miserably the last two seasons. While RVN and Henry have bagged in goals week in week out, and inspired their teams to superb performances and loads of throphies. Liverpool has relied on Owen to do the same. This has been a failure. Inconsistency, lack of determination, bad first touch, lack of pace and strenght; this is Owen 2004. Will Owen be able to reproduce his 1998-2000 form. I think not. He should move on, this is in the best interest of Lfc and Owen himself.

Remember what happened to Macca. Hailed as one of the worlds best players by our supporters. We loved Macca, worshipped him. Why then did he end up as a fringe player in Spain? Love makes blind.

michael owen is top quality end of story. the fact of the matter is he's never been the same player since he started picking up these niggling hamstring injuries. it was always on the cards because he played a lot of top level football at such a young age. in his early career, the way liverpool played suited him down to the ground. nowadays the way we play does not utilise his ability. it's the mediocrity around him which is having an adverse effect on his confidence. in arsenal's team he would score a hatful and even now his record is pretty much 1 in 2. i hope he signs a new contract.

Lets face it its an absolute banker ,Owen will be one of the stars of euro 2004 ,along with the Majestic Stevie G,and when that competition is over and Owens name is once again the most coveted  in world football ,lets just hope he considers Liverpool a big enough club to satisfy his lofty ambitions,:D

Banana you are having a gee-rafe aren't you?

He's one of the worlds best players and if you can't see that you are blind. McManaman was never one of the worlds best. He was just an excellent player. Owen is in the elite. Simple as that.

Gotta agree with you there Stu, Owen is upwith the very best and a rung or two up the ladder from Macca.

We desperately need to get him to stay, but if the little bugger's adamant about going we've got to make sure we don't get shafted and get the best possible money for him

Owen will return to form, mark my words.

He resembles Alan Shearer in attitude more than McMannaman, Fowler, Merson etc and attitude is what is most important when you have talent.

If you were right then there would be no need to discuss this. Point proven....

The only point proven here is that you clearly have little footballing knowledge.

How many times has this happened in the past? The answer.... EVERY f##king TIME HE MISSES A GAME!!!!

sorry for swearing but fools like this need to be put in there place.

Its not opinion... its fact... he's class. End of.

He has lost his form... we all agree... so yeah he's "lost it" but he certainly hasn't lost his talent and class. Everytime he gets injured people want to write and say how sh##e he is and how he's not the player he once was. Are you one of these morons who believes this? Clearly you are.

Some people just never learn.

You write him off then... sound... i just hope when he proves you wrong you have the decency to stand up and say what a complete knowledgeless opinionated know nothing you really are. :)

*rant over*

Stu, I don't often agree with you but you are 100% correct on this one.

I cannot possibly understand why people are slagging Owen. The guy has his injury problems and is going through a rough patch, but he'll pull out of it. He has that Keane/Shearer/Henry desire to win........did anyone see him get angry on Question of Sport recently?

Owen will return, and if he stays fit for a full season and finds form, we'll be at the business end of the Premiership, regardless of who the manager is.

Stop living in the past. Players should never be judged on past performances. This is a huge mistake.

Yes I agree with all the pro Owen comments.
He isn't in the best of form at the moment but equally he isn't playing in a great team at the moment. In many games he is starved of chances and if you judge him on goals scored then he is having a lean spell. But class is permanent and he will return.
Him and Gerrard are the 2 genuine class acts in our squad and our team is a lot stronger with them in it. Maybe Owen is letting his off field problems get to him a little bit - but he is a level headed guy and he will come through it.
To suggest he is over the hill is nonsense , put him in the Arsenal team , a team dominating games , playing with confidence and scoring goals then he would look a different player. The difference is that he is playing in a struggling team at the moment.
