Think newcastle are still owed a big chunk of the woodgate transfer, thats why they can afford to offer so much. They will only end up paying around 8mil for him, do madrid ever pay full transfer fees, didnt they still owe arsenal for anelka

Marseille admit they are towards the back of the queue to sign Liverpool forward Djibril Cisse, but still hope a deal can be done.

The Mediterranean club's president Pape Diouf claims the club has plenty of obstacles to surmount if they are to seal a deal for the 24-year-old French international.

"We are playing a waiting game," Diouf told club website www.olympiquedemarseille.com when asked about a possible Cisse deal. "We know this is not the sort of deal that can be done in the blink of an eye.

"If a beggar can have a lucky day then we will be happy to be that beggar. But in any case we do not intend to make Marseille supporters lick their lips for no reason."

Without going into detail, Diouf also revealed that finance was not the only obstacle to a move for Cisse, who joined Liverpool from Auxerre for £14million in 2004.

He said: "It is a wider problem, not only a financial one. We remain open to a deal but with lots of realism."

Cisse could be available for sale as Liverpool consider whether to make a move to sign Michael Owen. He has already been linked with Lyon and Monaco.

MICHAEL OWEN is virtually certain to join Liverpool next week, despite Newcastle's attempts to sign him.

Negotiations will begin with Real Madrid after tonight's Super Cup final and look set to end next week with him returning to the European champions.

Skipper Steven Gerrard has expressed his desire to see Owen rejoin the Reds.

Tell you what ciggy,going back to what we were talking about the other day.Cisse must feel as though hes been kicked where it hurts big time over this,especially when you consider hes married a local girl and just moved into his manor house.When we won the CL the image of cisse dancing around big ears will stay with me forever.....I really hope he dosnt go..........it seems so wrong as he is obviously so committed to liverpools cause.

Feel a bit the same Phil , Cisse hasn't done it for us yet but I wouldn't want to see him leave ,If someone has to make way for Owens return, I'd rather Morientes or Crouch f'cked off .

Speaking after yesterday's Champions League draw, Gerrard said: "Fingers crossed. It's obviously up to the Liverpool manager but everyone knows what I want."

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry denied claims there was a difference of opinion between the board and boss Rafael Benitez over Owen returning, saying: "There has never been a split between us and Rafa over Michael or any other player.

"It's not a no or a yes - there has been plenty of speculation and we will see next week. It's always encouraging when a player says he wants to come to Liverpool."

The Echo revealed last month how Owen was desperate to come back to the club where he had spent his entire career before opting for a move to Spain last summer.

Newcastle's efforts to lure him to Tyneside have failed to deflect Owen from his determination to return to Anfield.

The Geordies are now on the verge of landing Deportivo La Coruna striker Albert Luque in a £9m deal.

i dont want to see morientes scoring here at Manuel Ruiz de Lopera stadium i think he is very dagerous 4 Betis because Betis had problems with Adebayor of Monaco because he is very tall. Morientes shoots very well with head and Betis has bad "defense wings". Sorry i dont know the specify word.
