He scored 14 goals in 20 some games in his first season at La Liga. Sounds pretty good.

The only reasons they don't want Michael Owen because Owen isn't a galactico and won't sell as many shirts as two Brazilian prospects Robinho and Baptista.

No thats not true AB

Beckham sells shirts outside of Spain, but no-one outside of Spain has heard of Baptista.

Owen's scoring record at Real is good, but every coach he played for there (all 3 of them) had a problem with his inability to be involved in build up play. Even Camacho who walked at start of the season for team inteference from the president was seen screaming at Owen from the bench for not linking with midfielders and just waiting for thru balls.

The only team that played like that was LFC under Houllier.

David Bekhams soel jopb at Real is to sell shirts. I mean has he really improved as a footballer since he moved to Madrid. If anything he has got worse not only at aclub level but that drop in form has translated into his international performances also. When Real paid the 25/30M or whatever it was for him they made the entire sum back in 3 WEEKS alone in shirt sales in JUST the far east. Hong Kong or China if im right. In fact his numbered shirst was released in the east before it was in Spain. Hes just there to make them money.

I dont think Owen is coming. Its obvious Rafa doesnt want him. And i second that if thats is his wish. Do you think its a coincidence that the moinute people start mentioning Owen, Rafa goes to not rule out a move for Dirk Kuyt. He turned his back on Rafa and Liverpool. I loved him when he was here but hes gone now and hes not coming back like Rushie did. You incesent people keep banging on about how he will score 20 goals a season when he returns. Forget him. No one was mentioning his name while we were racing through the ranks of Europe without him and so why should they now? You people need to stop living in the past and look to the future.

Blues bid for Owen & Kuyt Aug 23 2005

Liverpool Echo

EVERTON have made a £10m bid to land top Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt, manager David Moyes revealed today.

And they have also made an approach to tempt ex-Liverpool striker Michael Owen to Goodison Park. Owen has rejected the approach.

The bid for Kuyt - like Owen a potential target for their Mereyside rivals - has been turned down by Feyenoord who insist they want 8m Euros - around £12m.

But Blues boss David Moyes is adamant Everton have the funds to bid for top players.

"We have been in contact with Michael Owen and his advisors but unfortunately Michael does not see Everton as his choice at the present time," said David Moyes before flying out to Villarreal today.

"But I am reassuring the Everton supporters that we are in for most of the names.

"We offered £10m for Kuyt on August 1, which was rejected by Feyenoord.

"It's just to make people realise that we are in for players who we consider to be top class.

"We do have money to fund deals if they are the right ones and the right ones are available.

"Certain top names that we are talking about are the right ones, but as far as I know it is 18m Euros - for Kuyt and I just felt that was too much.

"We have got people in mind and I hope to bring people in before the window closes. With Sandro Pistone injured - he had a scan and we are not quite happy with the one that we have had so far - it may force me into bringing in a left-back."
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Just heard on radio that Everton bid 12mil for Owen, and that echo article says he turned them down, why did Moyes even bother, they're going out the champs league on wed and he only wants to play for a team in the champs league!

Don't be fooled by denials:At the moment the only teams interested in Owen are,Newcastle,Everton and Wigan,so if he is desperate to get 1st team action on a regular basis, then Everton maybe his best bet.

Moyes claims there bid for Owen has failed because they can't meet his wage demands.

If you are a ture Liverpool fan, you should not call a Liverpool legend, Graeme Souness, who was a magnificent servant and perhaps (I still believe so) was the best midfield guv'nor we ever had, a "dicknose"?. Stevie G still have some improvements (despite his naturally amazing abilities) to match Souness. He may have been an unsuccessful Liverpool manager but where do you get off belittling people all the time?

Have some respect, even if you were still wet behind the ears or not yet born when Souness was in his pomp playing his heart out for Liverpool.

I am not one to complain, and you don't get me complaining about any member on this thread. I don't diss people for fun either. But I have seen one too many crude postings from you.

Get a grip and get a life.

Im not bein funny mate, souness may have been an amazin player for us but I won't 4giv him for selling his story to the s*n newspaper. Unforgivable.

this was always going to be their problem. you sign owen on a 4 or 5 year contract and you're looking at the best part of £15m in wages plus a transfer fee. neverton just aren't willing to blow their entire wage structure for one player, whoever he is.

money talks at the end of the day. scott parker had the choice between everton and newcastle. despite the fact that everton had the possibility of CL football, he turned them down for newcastle because they were able to match the £55k he was on a week at chelsea.
