THE MICHAEL OWEN THREAD - all owen talk here from now on please

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby red37 » Mon Aug 22, 2005 11:34 pm

another episode folks!

Marseille president Pape Diouf claims Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse has told him that he expects to see Michael Owen back at Anfield in the near future.

Diouf is keen on signing the French hitman who he claims isn't prepared to be deployed as winger by Reds boss Rafael Benitez.

"He has learned, while discussing it with his coach, that Michael Owen could return to the club where he started his career," revealed Diouf.

"Djibril then said to his coach that he did not wish to stay if he was not going to play in his original position - centre forward.

"It is known, and he has never hidden it, that Djibril would like to play at Marseille (one day)".

IMO I don't think Owen arriving would worry Cisse cos he isn't a quitter and would work harder, Cisse always showed how much he wanted to join LFC, he wouldn't jump ship cos one striker is sold and one brought in :;):

I donno if I should be happy or otherwise if Owen comes back to us, people.

I have said before that he is an accomplished finisher, and his experience and achievements in the EPL puts him ahead of our other strikers at this present moment. His goal instincts seems to have improved because he keeps scoring despite being clearly slower now due to past injuries (perhaps) then he initially was.

This is the thing. Owen used to have electric pace, coupled to his predatory instincts, had enabled him the pile up the goals for us. Now he is still quick but not that electrifying anymore and being on the small side, can easily be checked in Benithez's preferred 4-5-1 or any combination with a lone striker.

The big question is, if we do get him back and Liverpool keep playing Benithez's favoured tactics, will Owen actually improve the Liverpool attack? I have my doubts. ???

where will owen play in the 4-5-1?

rw? in the SG role? thats the jist of theproblem.

dicknose, lisbon-rentboy,a.rsehole, rafa..none of them can accomodate him into thier system.

his use is a super sub, or in a 442 under paul jewell.

What is it with you, meelan#5?

If you are a ture Liverpool fan, you should not call a Liverpool legend, Graeme Souness, who was a magnificent servant and perhaps (I still believe so) was the best midfield guv'nor we ever had, a "dicknose"?. Stevie G still have some improvements (despite his naturally amazing abilities) to match Souness. He may have been an unsuccessful Liverpool manager but where do you get off belittling people all the time?

Have some respect, even if you were still wet behind the ears or not yet born when Souness was in his pomp playing his heart out for Liverpool.

I am not one to complain, and you don't get me complaining about any member on this thread. I don't diss people for fun either. But I have seen one too many crude postings from you.

Get a grip and get a life.

He scored 14 goals in 20 some games in his first season at La Liga. Sounds pretty good.

The only reasons they don't want Michael Owen because Owen isn't a galactico and won't sell as many shirts as two Brazilian prospects Robinho and Baptista.

No thats not true AB

Beckham sells shirts outside of Spain, but no-one outside of Spain has heard of Baptista.

Owen's scoring record at Real is good, but every coach he played for there (all 3 of them) had a problem with his inability to be involved in build up play. Even Camacho who walked at start of the season for team inteference from the president was seen screaming at Owen from the bench for not linking with midfielders and just waiting for thru balls.

The only team that played like that was LFC under Houllier.

laughable.........although he is running out of options, apart from the obvious grief he would get.......i,m sure he wouldnt leave Real Madrid for a chance of playing in the inter toto cup next season.
