I for one will not be overally disappointed if we get knocked out of the Champions league on wednesday.Reasons 1.Our squad is too thin to cope with the riquors of Europe and all domestic competitions and Japan tour, etc etc 2.I would prefer us to concerntrate on the Premiership and F.A. cup and really try and get the team to gel this season.3. We still need quality signings but with what Rafa has bought so far this season i think we can quite honestly rule out any top names arriving.4.Injuries all ready,Crouch,Zenden,Traore,Dudek here we go again.Spurs will be up there this year, their squad looks very impressive and bigger than ours,

rafa inherited the spine left by houllier, and added some of his own touches......and low and behold we win the champions league, perhaps with the other additions (sissoko etc) we may start to challange for league honours domestically.

as rafa points out ''he liked it when mourinho ranted on about gerrard and lfc, as it showed he is worried by our current side''. dont be put off by rafa's shrewd approach, we must wait and see. i for one am impressed with the man.

i take your point on crouch tho'

if i'd had won that 77 million quid on the euro millions the other week, i would have invested that in the squad with good hard cash.

the lfc phoenix has risen again

Trust me i am a real red, more so for not living in a wonderland. We are THE GREATEST TEAM IN THE WORLD, but we havn't got the greatest squad and it's hard to win championships without this.

Be realistic thats all i'm saying yes have belief but be realistic thats all i'm saying. At anfield i sing YNWA as loud and with as much passion as anyone. it's just i don't live with my head in the clouds

Ian Rushs right foot,

Before we start contemplating the new season ahead, let's reflect on Rafa's first season in charge. These are the facts: we reached 2 finals last season, winning one and losing one. Knocked out of the FA cup early on and 5th in the league. Right that's that cleared up for starters. How many players did we lose through injury last season? I seem to remember it was about 18 in total. From our strikers point of view, we sold Owen and Heskey and loaned Le Tallec and Diouf. Then we lose Cisse, and we had Mellor and sinama in and out all season before those two were injured at the end. So it left us with Baros. He scored 13 goals all season ! Imagine if the same injury crisis had hit Chelsea,Utd and Arsenal. That's players like Henry,Viera,Rooney,Keane and Lampard,Terry and Cech. Ask yourself would all the above teams finished that far ahead? No is the answer! Rafa never once used the injuries as an excuse. I bet Wenger,Ferguson and Mourinhio would have though.

Gerrards head was somewhere else and we had the new foreign players trying to adapt to a new manager at a new club and a new league. I agree we had some very poor games especially away from home Ex. B/ham and Southampton to mention two. This season I am expecting a big improvement in the league. How many points did Dudek cost us in the league? I've estimated anything between 12-15 points. We now have a new keeper who so far looks pretty good. How many points did Cech save for Chelsea? Probably the same as Dudek cost us. How many 1-0 wins did Chelsea have? I think it was about 12 games. Talk about a fine line between success and failure!

If, by the end of August we have not signed a new CB and RM I will be disappointed. As I posted and couple of weeks ago titled 'Investment' we need some as simple as that! But we must all get behind the club and especailly Rafa. Just think if we had won the Carling Cup final we would have been the most successful team last season and not Chelsea. Your thoughts!!!

the last time we had the greatest squad was in 1990, so i dont see your point, with reference to winning the domestic league.

as lfc fans, we always think we are gonna win the league at the start of the season, and if we dont have that mentality why are we going to matches at all??

i watched ''one night in may'' on sky last night, and rafa said we had the greatest set of fans in the world!!

as far as the board is concerned - rafa approaches them, sets his people targets and the board along with rafa try to get them, thats it. they support him, as you should all the way

i am hoping he dont read your comments mate

Rafalution? More like deja vu all over again. Instead of the Rafa show, we are getting the LFC Board+the Mickey and Stevie show..it may be good for shirt sales on merseyside, for the tabloids and for the WC preparations but this isn't going to win us the league.

Is this team going to pass and move and have half the technique of the Arsenal or Chelsea team? No. Instead we get a man who is a brilliant tactician, whose side did play attractive technical TEAM "play to feet" football, like WE used to play in the 70s and 80s, and he now wants to play long ball tactics to a big man to knock down to a little man upfront, and build around two stars, in order to "adapt to the PL". Wenger and Mourinho imported their tactics successfully, why not Rafa?!

For SG+the money we made in the CL+our existing player sales and releases and without Crouch, Owen, we could have gotten ALL the following plus our other buys: Adriano+Aimar+Gallas+Figo+Milito+Ballack..work it out!

How could you have had faith with 45 minutes to go in Istanbul when you havent got faith in Liverpool before a ball is even kicked in the Prem, Wake up mate, u say winning the premiership is a dream and wont happen.....Wasnt last seasons Champions league Just a dream? ???

I am 100% behind our manager but I cannot see how the squad could possibly be stronger, as he keeps on saying. Unless he means that Barragan, Reina, Sissoko Crouch and Zenden would beat Ostembor, Kirkland, Biscan, Nunez and Smicer in an arm wrestling competition. Hmmnn, then again he may be right, smicer would probably lose in an arm wrestling competiton to my 7 month old son, but Crouch's arm is surely too thin for mighty Igor's strength. But, remembering Kirkland's weak back maybe his arm is weak too and Pep Reina would 'ave him. Sissokko is way stronger than Le tellec and Pellegrino together. Sorry, Benitez is right, the squad is def. more stronger than last year.

Am I the only one who feels that the spending Rafa has done this summer is only merely to improve his sqaud, with the real money held back to buy his first priorities, a centre back and a right midfielder? Teh way I see it is that we probably have only spent half our summer budget, and big(ish) money will be spent yet on a centre back. We might go the cheap and cheerful route yet with RM by buying Stelios, but Rafa is being shrewd with the money he has available.

A lot of people, including our critics in the media, seem to think this is some sort of make or break summer for us, and harp on about the lack of big signings. I don't see it that way. Rafa is here for the long haul and the rebuilding will not last one summer, but a couple of summers. We may not solve our right midfield problem straight away, but there's loads of time yet. Rafa will buy again in the winter break, next summer and the summer afterwards.

Things are shaping up nicely and while there will naturally be a few duds, Rafa has improved the squad and will continue to do so.

Patience.............
Jolly Bob Grumbine.

Even with money, it does not guarantee you will have these players. Remember Figo chosed Inter...Which club do you support anyway?  ???
