Traore sidelined for four weeks

Liverpool defender Djimi Traore is set to miss the first four weeks of the season with a thigh strain.

The Mali left-back picked up the injury in the friendly match against Bayer Leverkusen in July and is unlikely to play again until September.

He was replaced in the second leg os the Champions League qualifier against FBK Kaunas by Stephen Warnock.

After a shaky start to his Liverpool career, Traore played a key part in the Reds' 2005 Champions League win.

Is it a worry though?

Warnock is a decent replacement but he is injury prone too

Warnock is better than Traore as far as defending is concerned.

i can't see him being missed to be honest. i'm still wondering why the occasional tackle at the risk of own goals, lost posession and sliced clearances merits a long new contract for the guy.

he just can't control his feet

You'll see Warnock as a LB more than you will Riise. Riise will play there from time to time but you'll mostly see him on the wing when Zenden isn't playing

I'm really worried about Riise's future at Liverpool.

He's a top quality player, but he won't get too many starts, from the sounds of things.
Because he's not starting too many games, he'll get bored, i think.

He'll get plenty of starts because Zenden isn't going to play all 80 games this season. It's called competition, it's needed in the squad.

well, for the next game anyway (sofia), Risse a certain starter in LM (unless rafa decides to pull a rabbit outta his hat) since zenden is out. warnock shd start as LB.

Anyway, i agree that this season Risse will not feature as much as last with the arrival of Zenden. But then again, Rafa tends to play Risse quite alot at LB, he seems to favour him at LB than warnock anyway. As fot Troare, he wun really be missed much for the next 4 weeks but he does provide decent cover at LB and to a certain extend CB (which ironically is his favoured position) when he returns. But IMO, we, as liverpool fans feel safer when he's further away from our goal, the further the better. :P

Traore being injured is a blessing in disguise, I think he's a big liability whenever he plays. Yes he's improved but he's still average at best.

It's interesting that Barragan is named in the squad against Sofia and hopefully we'll sign the two players we need soon.
