Yeah he is a quality player but it will do loads for the clubs profile :cool:

Im not to @rsed if he comes to us or not, I still have my resivations about his age. And for 2 years on 60 grand a week thats a BIG gamble.

He's the same age as me A.B. and I cant run up the bloody stairs never mind play 90 minutes of football

i know iv posted this on another thread as an opinion, but there is a RUMOUR that PArry is trying to get Owen back on a loan.

Owen would only get the same amount of playing time with us as he does at Real, it's not like the old LFC where we only had 3 strikers and he was the first name on the team sheet.

Also people doubted Gary Mc's age but he gave us a lot of experience, we have a young side and Figo could add a lot to it imo.

Figo won't have to play every game, which will help him at his age. Rafa will know when to use him and put him in situations that allow him to succeed. As for Owen, well, would you rather have Owen or Baros? I know who I'd choose.

Reds use Baros as Jorge bait

Milan Baros insists he wants to stay at Liverpool - but is likely to be offered as a makeweight to sign Deportivo defender Jorge Andrade.

The Czech Republic hitman is no longer needed at Anfield following the arrival of Peter Crouch from Southampton in a £7m deal this week.

The capture of Crouch has pushed Baros down to fourth in the striking pecking order, where he is also behind Spaniard Fernando Morientes and Frenchman Djibril Cisse.

But an area where Liverpool are not so strong is at centre-back, with Rafael Benitez looking to solve that problem before the big kick-off.

The Reds boss had targeted Real Zaragoza defender Gabriel Milito - but has been scared off by the £10m price tag on his head.

So now he has turned his attention to La Coruna, where he has been casting envious glances towards strong centre-back Andrade.

The Portuguese star would no doubt fancy a crack at playing in the English top-flight, having seen the success enjoyed by his countrymen Ricardo Carvalho and Paulo Ferreira at Chelsea.

But the future at Anfield looks bleak for Baros, who is likely to be offered to Deportivo as bait, and he said: "Of course it is not pleasant, but I am still a Liverpool player. I am working hard and I'm trying to persuade the coach that I deserve my place in the team.

"We will sit together with the coach and talk about his intentions with me.

"If he says he does not need me, then we will start solving the problem but nothing is happening now and I am not letting it play on my mind."

Course I'd prefer Owen, what I'm saying is it Baros leave and Owen comes back that mean we would have Cisse, Morientes, Owen and Crouch and I don't think Owen would play enough games to keep him happy as with GH he play EVERY game.

McAllister was amazing. There is still no one at Liverpool who done what he did. Possibly the only decent Houllier signing. :bowdown

If Figo can have the same impact over two seasons it could be worth it. Yes, his wages are astronomical but he could make a difference in the big games (against the other top five teams and Champions League games). Why not take a risk on him. It would boost morale to have a player of his stature in the dressing room, it might humble Gerrard a bit and other younger players might learn alot from having a galactico about. I think there are benefits on and off the pitch :;):

ZARAGOZA RULE OUT MILITO SALE
Liverpool Echo 22 July 2005

RAFA BENITEZ has stepped up his search for defensive reinforcements as Real Zaragoza appeared to close the door on a move for long-term target Gabriel Milito.

The Reds manager has been pursuing Milito all summer but Zaragoza have fought tooth and nail to hang on to their prize asset, even rebuffing a £7.5m offer for the Argentinian international.

Milito has intimated he would like to move to Anfield but Zaragoza's chief executive today insisted any such transfer would be "practically impossible".

Jeronimo Suarez added. "Our interest is to keep him and for that reason he has a very good offer from the club to extend and improve his contract."

The Spanish club has now offered to treble Milito's salary in an effort to ward off Liverpool's interest and Benitez is now weighing up his options as he looks for central defensive back-up for Jamie Carragher and Sami Hyypia.

One player who has caught the attentions of the Liverpool manager is Deportivo La Coruna's Jorge Andrade.

Coruna are believed to be preparing a formal approach for the Reds' Milan Baros and it is thought Benitez may be ready to consider a straight swap involving Andrade, a Portuguese international.

But Coruna have fought to hang onto Andrade all summer despite interest from Manchester United and Newcastle United and a swap deal could hinge on their desire to sign Baros.

If Benitez is unable to prize Andrade, 27, away from the Riazor he is likely to continue trawling La Liga for a top class centre back.

Reports in Spain are linking Liverpool with a £7m move for Sevilla's utility defender Daniel Alves and having already raided the Southern Spanish club this summer for teenage right back Antonio Barragan, Benitez is well aware of the qualities of the playing staff there.

Meanwhile, Baros is to hold showdown talks with the Reds boss in an effort to convince him that he deserves to stay at Anfield.

Last year's top scorer has found himself out of favour during pre-season and it is unlikely there is any way for him to find his way back into Benitez's plans.

Speaking of his current situation, Baros said: "It is not pleasant, but I am still a Liverpool player. I am working hard and I am trying to persuade the coach that I deserve my place in the team.

Andrade seems to get a mention in a few articles here. I have seen him play plenty of times for Portugal (and for Deportivo now and then) and he is a very good player, not an ideal replacement for Sami though as he isn't particularly tall or good in the air, but neither is Milito for that matter.

What happened to the links with Coloccini, another Argentine. He was heavily linked with us last summer but seems that he is no longer in the picture.

Rubbish, only decent signing?

Hyppia, Henchoz, Cisse, (arguable whether he is Rafa's signing or not), Hamann, Litmanen, Finnan, Riise, Pongolle, even Baros has been decent for the price paid.
