Cant say I am over the moon with this he will only be a decent squad player, probably replacing Vladi, ffs Euro Champions and we are meant to be  signing him. And Zenden this week, dont know whether to laugh or cry.

LiverpoolLiverpool are rumoured to have made a €1.7 million bid for Bolton's Stelios Giannakopoulos.

Reports in Greece are suggesting that a deal is close to completion with a two-year deal on offer for the Greek international.

Bolton boss Sam Allardyce is keen to keep his squad together but knows the lure of playing for the European champions would be hard to turn down.

Rafa Benitez has previously been linked with an interest in the 30-year-old, but he is now thought to have stepped-up his pursuit with a firm offer.

The former Olympiakos man is thought to be keen to move to Anfield to return to UEFA Champions League football.

The Trotters have recently captured El-Hadji Diouf from Liverpool and his arrival could pave the way for Stelios to move in the opposite direction.

The Greek press are reporting that an announcement will be made in the coming few days as the transfer is though to be well in advance.

Benitez knows that he needs new recruits for what could be a long season for Liverpool, starting with the defence of their European crown in mid-July.

Stelios would bring a wealth of experience with him from his Olympiakos days, along with his Euro 2004 success with Greece.

Perhaps more importantly, Stelios has also proven himself to be more than useful in The Premiership for Bolton.

I hope stelios has the right mentality.  Forget fame.  We won the CL because we played as a team, not individuals.  If we are going to win the premiership, it'll be because we played as a team.  I think stelios will be a good squad player that fits in nicely.  If so, 1.7 million isn't too bad.

don't get it - he's a competent player, but we might as well have given Smicer and Biscan new contracts if that's what we're looking for.

I think he was in that secretive Diouf deal meself.
So we have Reina, cant pass comment cause havent seen him but if he's the next Cech then yes Ill be delighted.
Zenden and Stelios well just usefull squad players, to replace Igor and Vladi. The 16 year old Roque will start pre-season with us and that other new kid weve signed Barragan.

I want to see some exciting names though, f*ckin sick of chelsea chasing every dogs dick under the sun and they have the money to buy them.

I doubt that this is true and if it is he would be adding depth to our squad which is what we need as the season will be long.

Yes Chelsea have the money to buy players but that doesn't mean that the players will accept it. For instance Chelsea have made bids for Eto'o,Shevchenko and now Trezeguet, all of which have been turned down.

Of course, you DID notice that Barcelona,Milan & Juventus are some of Europe's richest clubs and have little use for the extra money.Otherwise, they would be shipped off just like that.If Arsenal was poorer,we could see Ashley Cole in blue a long time ago.

Have we actually signed Roque and Barragan or are they just on trial or something?

This can't be true. We don't need him as in our squad.

Just another wastage if we sign him. :(

According to reports originating from Greece, Liverpool have signed Bolton midfielder Stelios Giannakopoulos on a two-year-deal.

Speaking only last month, Bolton Chairman Phil Gartside issued Liverpool with a "hands off" warning following intense speculation that we were about to make a move for the winger.

At the time Gartside said: "We are not prepared to let him go. He's on a long-term deal and he is not for sale."

Gartside's words came on the same day that Giannakopoulos said: "All I know is that Liverpool have shown interest in me. I don't want to say anything more as right now I have a contract with Bolton. It's an honour for me and for Bolton to attract interest from Liverpool. We'll see what happens."

The 30-year-old (31 in July) 2million-rated Greek international scored eight goals in 38 games last season. Signed from Olympiakos on a Bosman in 2003, Giannakopoulos has a year left on his existing contract with Bolton. His real name is Stylianos but he prefers to be called Stelios.

I rate Giannokopoulos. admittedly hes not a 'world beater' but he is a strong, determined, consistent midfielder with premiership experience. he put in some really solid performances for bolton last year and scored some valuable goals. (especially against weaker oposition)

Hes the type of player we needed last season for the games after we returned from a mid-week european game. those saturdays where we looked jaded and uninterested and finished the game with 0 points. this is when strong, consistent squad players come in and do the job while some of the first teamers can sit on the bench and take a breather.

For this role, i think he is ideally suited. on the subject of vladi & igor. it will be a shame to see igor go but these two were far from consistent.
