Two images, one big future - I might be wrong but

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

God, what a night. Me girlfriend had to peel me off the ceiling on wednesday night. I've stayed in tonight to watch it all again on video and two images out of all those brilliant images stuck out for me.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but for me, two things stood out to tell us we've got one huge future.

The first was during the penalty shootout. After Smicer scored, the camera cut back to our boys stood on the halfway line linking arms. Gerrard turns to Garcia and says something, quite nervous/excited; Garcia does the same to Stevie. The two of them turn to Alonso and ask him, and he just looks dead ahead and give a one word answer. 'yeah'.

Am I imaging it, or were they asking him if he was gonna take the 5th pen? he looked so :censored: cool Alonso he was like a gunslinger. I've gotta feeling that fella was gonna put himself forward for the possible crunch pen. after all, he stood forward to take the pen to equalise during the game. What a bloke to have on your side.

Image number 2, when we're going up to pick up the trophy. The players file up, kiss the cup, pick up their medals. Rafa steps up, gets handed his medal and immediately heads off into the background. If that was Maureen he'd have been out front, picking the :censored: cup up himself. And there Rafa was, gone from sight.

Genius.

We are back, and one look on the Manc  Red Issue site today confirmed it all. They are :censored: spitting.

I saw that scene too when they were lining up, and I think Stevie was asking Garcia and Alonso to take it for him. Gerrard said he was sh1tting bricks when it was to be his turn.

The way Rafa conducted himself during the trophy ceremony was a credit to the legendary days. While i think there is still a long way to go we are definately on the right road these days with this man at the helm

If Gerrad took the 5th it wouldnt have been that bad, save garcia and alonso for the 6th and 7th. As we definately had the upper hand at that time

If Stevie had to step up and take the final penalty to score my heart would have been in my mouth, god knows what he would have been going through!! Luckily Jerzy saved!

Also to be fair to Maureen I'm sure he went straight to dressing room after Porto lifted the trophy

I actually thought Alonso looked like he was trying to stay cool but watching it again (a few minutes ago ) he was a bag of nerves (not that i blame him) and his penalty was actually a poor one ,although well placed it had no power in it . Thank god Xabi still had enough awareness to get in there for the follow up .

Riise to my surprise also tried to side foot his penalty ,again with no power. Smicer and Ciise's penalties on the other hand were perfect   :)

Gerrard was the 5th penalty taker and he admitted himself he was dreading it.

I heard today that Gerrard lost his head on Wednesday before the match. He was hyper, pacing the corridors of the team hotel and nobody could calm him down.

Alonso was a bag of nerves leading up to his penalty......look at his face again.

I wouldn't say he looked a bag of nerves JBG. He seemed to be talking to himself to calm down, but only a little. And don't forget there was a delay, cos Milan were trying to beg the linesman not to send off Gattuso for hauling down Stevie. Alonso still looked pretty cool to me.

As for what they were saying on Red Issue, it was pretty vile to be honest. The more repeatable stuff was that 'Football is Dead' was one topic headline; the rest was predictable :censored: that we were lucky, a second-class team who got very lucky repeatedly, and that we shouldn't be allowed in next year cos we knew the rules etc.

Funny enough though, they quite took to the idea of us being back in the CL if it meant Citeh being knocked out of the Uefa.

Bitter, horrible people on that site, and some of the stuff was laughing about  Hillsborough. Don't seem to have mods on it.
