Are everton better?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

If Everton are 4 points above us, and assuming it stays that way then Everton will have proved that they are better than LFC. No flukes over 38 games. They lost Rooney and Graveson and didn't spend much.

We had injuries but that is no excuse. Its a disgrace for Everton to be better.

they arent of a better quality than us no way, but in football quality isnt always what will help you to succeed, u need to be determined and spirited, u have to give enormous amount of effort and justify ur desire to wear the shirt of the club,

evertons midfield run themselves ragged each game, cahill is by far their best midfield but the others dont leave it to him, they help him more than enough so that the burden isnt upon his shoulders,

we have much more quality players than everton but we seem to have too many players not too interested in precedings, everton have got more jamie carragher style players than us, they have fighting qualities and have proved to be resilient, when we go behind we tend to lose confidence and heads drop however everton will battle away to the death,

If Everton finish ahead of us this season then yes, they were the better side in 2004/05 although I will say in mitigation that we have had the worst run of injuries at this club I can remember, whereas Everton have been blessed in that department. However, I think this is offset (a small bit) by the loss of Rooney and Graveson.

However, I would be extremely surprised if Everton kept up their form next year. I could see them spending money in the summer (particularly if they qualified for the CL) but being a bit of a mess next year, finishing mid table. I'm not sure if they have the quality in their squad to continue their form for a couple of seasons.

I watched the blues second half yesterday and they played really well and have had a great season. We have really struggled when we have gone a goal behind, some players heads do seem to drop, but i think with a settled side things will get a lot better. The amount of games we have lost by the odd goal is unbelievable and wont continue, likewise the amount of games the blues have sneaked by a goal cant continue. I still think we will finish 4th...(just) and i think next year Everton will be about 14th about 15-20 points behind us.

i'd say this extra ordinary case of injury is an absolutely acceptable excuse. So, no, everton is not a better side.

Didn't we all use "the injury excuse" last year. How many more years can we do it for. Alonso and Cisse are the only quality players injured (HK is a lazy f*cker) and Cisse did f*ck all when he was playing.

they have been a better side than us this season but to suggest they have better players is just laughable. they also have a manager who i rate very very highly. the main difference is that whether they're winning or losing, their general team performance has remained pretty much consistent throughout the season. we have either looked like worldbeaters or been absolute garbage. for example how many league games can you think of in which we have played badly and won?

ive to agree everton has hardworking squad .. they played wif desires in each game.if only we played wif more desires n commitments n rise to each game(juz like wat we did against olympiakos, leverkusen n 1st leg against juz),we couldn't be chasing for the 4th spot .. maybe,we already comfortably on the 3rd or 4th spot.

last year injuries was as not as massive as this year, we didn't lose owen for the whole of the season as we are without cisse now. The rest of injury cases were just pretty 'normal'. Other players alikes of Heskey, Kewell, Murphy, Pongolle, Hamann, had been playing about regularly. Yet we had players like Pongolle, Warnock, Riise, Biscan, Traore etc who had never come to even their standard level of performances. Instead of 'using up' those players and digging out their best, GH preferred to complain over the situation.

liverpool has been losing their top players along this season
i'd like to know what would happen if this was also apply to everton's toop players
or what juventus will be without pierro, trezeguet, ibrahimovich, nedved and cannavaro?
Arsenal without henry, reyes, pires and vieira
Manure without nistlehorse, rooney, ronaldo, scholes
Celsh1t without Drogba, Cole, Lampard and Gudjohnsen
most of the whole season

The fact is, if each of our players on sat played even to 80% of their potential, we could have beaten man city easily. BS players give 110% everytime they play, that's why they wion most of their matches......

Everton may be having a better season in the Premiership but no way are they the better team. Anyone would struggle with the amount of injuries we have had this year and the fact the we are in the quarter finals of the CL speaks volumes for how well we can play. It is very rare Rafa has been able to put out his best 11 this year

Rubbish mate

Gerrard was out with a broken foot
Kirkland (our best keeper) has missed most of the season
Alonso broken leg
Cisse broken leg
Pongolle out for season
Kewell hardly kicked a ball
Baros missed large chunk of games with hamstring problem
Owen sold just after Rafa arrived
Several foreigners taking the first half of season to settle
New manager and coaching staff with new ideas

Tell me how we were not going to struggle this season??

in general i usually agree with a lot you say john but there`s no way kirkland is the best keeper at the club, in fact i think he`s the worst.
the carsley shot at goodison and the rivaldo free kick at anfield sailed past him well within arms reach, and he just didnt react at all. for a big lad he`s appalling at crosses and he just flapped around like a seagull in the derby whenever a ball was lofted into the area.
anything hit at him seems to go through him.
maybe he`s going through a confidence crisis at the moment but i`m not overly impressed with what i`ve seen.

Point taken

I don't really like Kirkland either and to be honest I think we need 2 experienced keepers for next year to replace dudek and kirkland, Carson needs a few years before we can rely on him week to week.

I just think that kirkland is less blunder prone than dudek, although dudek is a more talented shot stopper and would be the better of the two if he could cut out the mistakes
